I'm learning about the fast path, and maybe I'm missing something, but...if it is free, why doesn't everyone get a fast path? Is there some downside that I'm missing?
Its fastPASS. Have you been to any Disney park in the past 15 years or so? If not, then you won't have any issue with the new system, so don't let the negative reviews freak you out. In short, Fastpasses used to be plentiful. You could get upwards of 10 a day if you did it right, in as many parks as you wanted. With the new fast pass system, you get three total and only in 1 park. Its a huge change for those of us that are used to the old way. I used the new system last fall and I liked it. I didn't love it, but the good stuff did outweigh the bad for the most part.
No, I haven't been to Disney since I was 9...and now I'm adult taking my own kids. I haven't actually heard anything bad about FastPASS, as I'm just hearing about it in general. Ah ok...so FastPASS is per ride (i.e. and not per park)? If you go to Magic Kingdom one day and then Hollywood Studios another day, does the counter reset?
