Does that mean it's too ripe?

I looked on avocado.org and three or four other sites, but one one mentions why an avocado does that.

It seems like even sometimes when it's still hard on the outside it has those strings in it.

What gives?

What kind are you buying-the huge green ones or the smaller brownish ones? Don't ever buy the huge green ones- they are horrible and have no flavor. If your avocado is VERY ripe, it will be a bit stringy and have brown patches inside. It should give a bit when you squeeze it, but not too much.

What'cha making??

Guacamole. I always throw them away when they're stringy...the texture gives me the heebie jeebies.

I love guac. I have this recipe that is so good...if I get home before too late, I'll post it for you.

I use HAAS avocados. Good grief. That's all you can even get in Columbus, Mississippi.

When we lived in Arkansas, there was a variety of HAAS available that was engineered to have half the fat. I loved those the most but haven't had them in years. Maybe that's why my backside keeps growing!

Anyway, it was still green on the outside, and mostly yellow on the inside, but it still started having strings. It didn't have any of those tell-tale black spots.

O my gosh, tell me about it! I love to just scoop the avocado out and spread it on bread.....you know where that is going!!
