Why is it acceptable....

Nope, I won't link it. If no one knows, then my bad, but I really don't think it's fair that it's allowed to go on.

But it's been done twice to me(and quite a few times for others) and I felt like saying something.
Actually, it's probably three now. :teeth:
If there's a thread like that, the proper thing to do is to report it to a mod and let them decide if it's something that should be closed or poofed.

I didn't read the link, but I am sorry if you're really being made fun of. Sometimes people are trying to be funny and don't mean any harm (don't know if this is an example of that or not).

The most recent one I can think of was a few days ago. Someone changed one word of a post title to make it about a different topic and a whole bunch of people jumped on board with a bunch of sarcasic remarks. There were also people on the thread posting seriously and probably wondering why the tone of the thread seemed weird. If you hadn't participated in the original thread or noticed it, it probably would have gone right over your head that it was a "spoof" thread.

I dunno...to me sometimes it just lightens the atmosphere. Our world needs a little light-hearted every now and then. If there was a thread that I perceived was making fun of me and wasn't all in good fun I would tell a moderator.

OK, I read and I do not think that that thread was making fun of you, but of that other thread in general, which wasn't your thread. Yes, you posted on it, but so did a lot of other people. And I know for a fact that the linked thread was a joke. However, if you feel that you were attacked (and I didn't read through the thread to know if your name was brought up), report it.

Well, some of us would do the same thing in real life. I, for example, have no "filter" as my dh calls it. I say it like it is. I also have a sarcastic sense of humor. If somebody says something idiotic, chances are I'll have a sarcastic comeback in real life or cyber space.
A lot of the time I see people do what you are speaking of when the OP is a regular poster that will distort other posters words and/or act like a troll. Sometimes you just have to be the one to alert the rest of the world that they're full of it. ;)

I do think there are mocking threads that are funny and it's obvious that it's tongue in cheek. I know I don't have an issue with those. I have an extremely dry, warped, and sarcastic sense of humor.

I know one person that has posted things in the past makes snarky comments when someone voices a disapproval of something snarky person happens to do (without realizing snarky person does it). So snarky person takes offense, says the people who disagree are essentially uptight frigid people with no sense of humor, and then creates a thread like the OP is talking about.

So the intent of the 2nd thread might be light hearted, but coupled with the snarky posts on the original thread it comes across as petulant and passive aggressive.

Me too.

Then the thread about" things that get dis'ers in a tizzy" is badtoo....because everyone of those "controversial" subjects had posters who felt strongly about both sides of the issues....

at some ponit we all need step back. and try and find some humor..I was involved inthe great heely/tripping debate...but I can laugh about it now....

The Children allowed at Disney poll was sarcastic humor.....not a personal attack IMHO

I just saw cardaway's link. I thought that thread was HILARIOUS!!!! But I had participated in the original thread so I knew it was a spoof. Just trying to lighten the mood of a heated topic, I think. :confused3

Just another excuse for the same cliques to find more threads to dominate.

Maybe I should start a poll - do you think it's mean to make start new threads making fun of other threads or is it "all in good fun?".

I get sarcasm, I get humor.

I don't get starting a thread in "jest", then running to another thread saying "ooooohhhh I caused trouble", and "discussing" people who post on your "lighthearted" thread.

Well, I haven't participated in one lately nor have I started one but there are plenty of posters that do. So I quoted to my friends on another thread?? Big frickin' deal. It was a joke. Everybody knows it happens here and on other boards.

Ok, I read the thread in question (tx Cardaway) and I really don't see it as harmful or malicious. Some people have a weird sense of humor. Some people get bored by seeing the same old posts day in and day out. Unless someone directly and intentionally tries to hurt someone or slams someone, I don't see the harm in it. It's actually fun to see how creative some dissers can be.

JMHO though. :wave2:

Well, then you can discuss me in your own private thread.

I am sorry, but I think this is ridiculous. I have a thread that I post on frequently that is referred to as a clique. It isn't. In fact, we are always asking more people to join in and just be silly with us. I have posted a couple of times on other "clique" threads and have been equally welcome. If you are bothered by a clique thread why not just jump in and chat with them instead of complaining about the? :confused3

Okay, I think I'm catching on now. Thanks for some of the instructional PM's! ;)

I guess I truly just have *missed* it most of the time (I must not be attracted to the sort of threads that this happens with).

Actually, my advice would be that since it seems to come from a select few posters, I would directly complain to the mods with a list of names. It could be that the mods aren't really *all* the threads and, therefore, aren't making the connection. I read the thread that cardaway posted. I read it the when it was first posted and was like, "Huh???" :confused3 and moved along. It never occurred to me that it was jabbing at someone else because I didn't read the original thread that inspired it.
