I've noticed that many of those who tend to do that are also quick to call newbies "trolls" and quickly roll out the inside jokes and rally their troops.
AH! But see, some of those "newbies" aren't newbies. They are former posters with new screen names. (Some, not all.) But it's pretty obvious to those of us that have been here awhile when a "hot" topic comes up again and the poster only has 1 post.

Wow. I get busy with work for a few days and all sorts of interesting things take place.

I don't think I've ever felt so out-of-the-loop before. :surfweb:

Do you have any links to 'clique' people being the first line of defense against trolls?

I think I'll start a thread titled "Why do people have to take things sooo seriously" :rolleyes1

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Just kidding! :stir: :stir: :stir:
Not a bad idea actually.
I've never understood why some posters get so upset about something a complete stranger says on a message board.
Also, reporting "offensive" posts to the mods? What do you do IRL if someone says something you don't like, tell your mommy?

hate to break it to you but I only linked because of the title. I don't remember ever seeing your screen name before. I might discuss your topic, but not you. Until you say something discussion-worthy. ;)

Thats right because Ann is always talking about me  she and those other crazy PMS people. Jeez ya'll hellions I tell ya ;)

OP: I'm sorry that you have had some ugly moments on here. There are some people who are ugly and have no tact and does treat this like the high school hallways. I hope you find some posters that you do like.

Actually not all clique threads are welcoming. There have been several I've read where people have been ignored. I'm not saying all of the posters on that thread are snubbing - there are some very nice people that belong to cliques that I enjoy posting with a lot.
I've been ignored on these threads, too. Not because the posters aren't friendly (the posters on the PMS thread are my buddies), but because they are so fast moving that the posts are often buried in a few minutes. That's when I go back, quote myself and ask to been recognized. :bitelip: But I can see why the threads are intimidating to newbies and I try hard to be welcoming to others and I know that most regulars on the clique threads (I call them neighborhood threads) have good intentions. And these threads are not for everyone, which is fine.

WD2, I love your sense of humor. I'm scared to death of it, but I love it. :rotfl2:

I love the bravado of message board posters also. :)

It's all about fairness, if one group is allowed to do it, then all groups should be allowed. It's a much bigger picture you know. ;)

Girl!!!!! Where have you been???? :grouphug: Come over to the pms thread so I can ask you how Matt is.

I like the anonymity of message boards!

Where else can I be there but not really be there, you know?

Those threads are posted on a monthly basis. no need for it.

And the mods have asked that they be contacted directly if there is an offensive post because with the amount of traffic here they won't necessarily see it. It's got nothing to do with tattling to mommy. It's alerting people in charge of offensive content, like they asked, without causing an altercation or needing to deal with personal attacks on the boards.

Come on - we can share. I know I've seen you on the offensive thread although it hasn't been a while.

Anyway Back OT:
I guess I don't understand the problem here. If you don't like the thread ignore it and go elsewhere. There are days I am bored with the threads here and I visit the DVC or Theme Park Boards. You can tell immediately what threads are designed to stir the pot, so if you don't want the controversy then don't open it. I don't understand why you would report someone just because they are posting about something you don't agree with. Instead of being a tattle tale, why not just leave the thread?

Why can't you do it here? What are trying to hide? Who are you REALLY gonna talk about? :smokin:

I think I know what you mean, OP. I love funny threads, I've been known to participate in them many times. I love a good spoof too! But I do find it a little disconcerting when what appears to be a harmless spoof thread starts taking potshots at people who had opposing views in the original thread that the spoof was based on. Spoofs of topics are great - just don't start in on the posters. That does border on an attack, and it just doesn't make people feel good.

I also don't like it when people start making fun of those who post seriously to a topic that seems serious, especially when the thread is a few pages long - we all know not everyone has the time or inclination to read a long thread in its entirety before posting, and many people miss the fact that a serious post has turned funny several pages in. I tell you, watching people get embarrassed that way has made me start testing a thread by at least reading the last page as well before posting - so that I know the climate I'm posting into!

Hey! Thread-jacking is not my style!
SO back to the original post. If you find something offensive I think you just click the bad post thingy.

It's always interesting to see one person start with the insults, and then everyone run and jump on the bandwagon.

Since it looks like there is confusion, I posted the only link I have seen on this thread so far, not gobears. I didn't post it as a thread gobears was attacked on, only an example of the issue her OP brought to the table.

And to pretend the thread I linked to is anything but a thread to make fun of others is insulting. If you followed that OP's posts on the two threads involved her intent was pretty friggin obvious.

Oh I'm not refering to your group. Well i'm not entirely certain of your circle but those I know including you I'm not talking about :) I understand about the traffic point.
Without getting into name and shame, let's just say there are people that have posted an off shoot of their clique thread and ignore pretty much any comment on that thread unless it's one of their clique.

You have never stalked anyone on the DIS or made fun of anyone who is a regular poster on here? I am not asking you if it's right or wrong, I'm asking you if you have truthfully ever done it?

Insults? I'm still waiting for the list of posters you accused me of making fun of.
