Why I love Disney

Hello everyone. I just wanted to make a comparison that's been made many times, although I feel it's necessary to bring it up again.

Yesterday I went to Six Flags New England. Although I do love some of the rides there (especially Bizarro :worship:) it just doesn't get the same vibe as Disney. Let me go further into that.

1. Although they make an attempt at theming, Six Flags has no where near the level of theming of a Disney Park, especially since they play outside music in their parks, and not "theme specific" music.

2. WHY CAN THEY NOT BUILD A STRUCTURE OVER ALL OF THE LINES:scared1:! having to wait 45 min for a roller coaster is one thing, but can't they please build a cover over the whole line? Well, Disney can.

3. The whole Disney-Fastpass thing. Going there makes me realize why Fastpass should stay the way it is. At Six Flags, you have to pay $35 to get the exact same privelages (spelling?) that I get at Disney for free.

4. Dining at Disney> Dining at Six Flags. Enough said.

That's four reasons of why I love Disney so much, and why I want to keep going back over and over again. Also, before I end this, I would like to say that I'm not trying to slam Six Flags here. Having a Six Flags within a two hour drive is nice, as I'm able to go on theme park rides (with roller coasters that are better than Disney's) and not travel halfway across the country.

Disney is a theme park. Six Flags is an amusement park. No where near the same.

You said it's $35 for the Six Flags version of fast pass. Was the wait 45 minutes with the fast pass or without? If with then it really isn't fast.

How many attractions were you able to go on in one day at Six Flag compared to a day at MK for comparison?

it was a 45 min wait without one. But overall, it seemed like a waste of $35 since I was only there for like 7 hours total and not going back in the foreseeable future. And I got to get on about 9-10 rides in that time span, while I can easily eclipse that in the same span at MK, provided I'm there for RD.

I too love Disney for many of the reasons that the OP have mentioned (haven't been to a Six Flags in a really long time, so I can't really compare it). I too love the themes of each of the lands in MK, and the themes in general of each of the parks. I love how Disney lets me forget about all of the worries in my life and let me be the 9 year old kid again when I went to Disney for the first time. I also love that there is a story behind each of the resorts and attractions, and when you wait for the attraction, you get to see the back story to it before riding. Not to knock US/IOA (I am sorry if I am going to offend anyone too), but the last time that we went there (a couple of years ago) most of the lines that we were waiting in had minimal shade outside with fans placed every so often to keep us cooled. Plus, my DH hated the fact that there was an extra amount that you had to pay if you wanted their version of the FP, we like the fact that FPs are included in the price of your admission ticket at Disney. After we went to US/IOA the next day we went to Epcot and all we could say was it was good to be back at home as we were walking in an airconditioned queue.

:thumbsup2 exactly my point.

Six Flags idea of theming is slapping a Superman graphic on a coke machine....

I grew up going to Six Flags New England. Of course, back then it was Riverside Park! :) One year in college I even had a season pass (it *was* Six Flags by then, I'm not THAT old). I love that place. But I definitely agree, every single time I visited, I felt slightly heat stroke-ish by the end of the day. There's no shade and as far as I can recall minimal air conditioning. The only way I ever could get cool was riding Superman (or whatever they re-named it now) because at one point you get spritzed with water!

I still GO to other parks. And I have a good time. But I have to say that I spend the whole time thinking "Would it be that hard to put up something for shade or make these lines indoor and airconditioned?" Disney makes all that stuff seem so effortless, I don't get why it's so hard for these other places to even TRY to match Disney on some of these issues. Not even the theming or the friendliness... just things like SHADE!!!

I feel the CMs at Disney really care and want to be helpful and dole out the magic whenever they can. Employees at other theme parks look like they would rather be anywhere else and just want to be left alone.

Not Sure what the cleanliness factor is at 6f's NE, but 6F's Fiesta Texas is nasty. Would it hurt to scrape the gum off the attractions once a week?

Disney is worth the cost of us going as we do not get skeezed out on every attraction.

"WHY CAN THEY NOT BUILD A STRUCTURE OVER ALL OF THE LINES"
Yeah, This is dead on.. waiting in line during the TX heat with no shade, let alone no misters, is enough to cause a camel to have a heat stroke.

I have to say that I agree with what a pp felt about feeling heatstrokish. It wasn't until I went on a splash boat ride that I felt better.

By the way, thanks everyone for your feedback :goodvibes

Definitely. We spent Memorial Day at 6F St. Louis, and let me tell you, many folks on these boards like to complain about Disney's pizza, but Six Flags' pizza is beyond wretched. If I hadn't been coming down with a migraine, which food usually helps, that pizza would've gone in the trash after the first bite. And it was more expensive to boot! :confused3

And I totally agree on the theming. There's a great Batman coaster there, that came out when I was in middle school. The queue has a split theme - first a pretty little park in Gotham City, then as you get closer to the ride, there's a drastic change to the "seedy underbelly", complete with an abandoned police car crashed into a spraying fire hydrant. Or at least that's how it was when it was new. It has been so poorly maintained that now you can't even tell there was originally supposed to be a difference between "nice Gotham" and "scary Gotham"...it's all scary. :rotfl2:

I'm sorry; this is totally OT but I had NO IDEA Riverside turned into a Six Flags! I'm from CT and also grew up going to Riverside (my dad used to take us each for our birthdays :lovestruc ) and I have long since moved away.

The things you learn on the DIS...that sometimes have nothing to do with Disney! :rotfl:

This!!! :thumbsup2

Really people, do you go to six flags expecting it to be like Disney? IMO, that's like going to a small town in Missouri and expecting it to be like New York City, thats like going to France in World showcase and expecting it to be just like the real "Paris"

First of all do you go to Six flags for 3, 4 or 5 days?
Six flags never advertises their parks as magical. Disney does.

Sorry I just really never understand the comparison. Disney is disney and I can't see how you can compare the two.

When I go to a ballpark or a amusement park I expect the food to be mediocre. the reason why people complain about disney food is that they expect the quality to be better (and it's not).

Maybe because employees at amusement parks are typically h.s kids that are just there for the summer.

My son works at an amusement park. I love the kid dearly and while I think he is going to be polite (he better not be rude) at 16 sorry Cee, he really is not that into whether or not you are having a magical day. Next, the training for the job is not the same. There was 1 day training on his ride that's it. His job is to get kids on the ride, make sure it's safe and start the ride, empty the ride then repeat.

if you need more than that, he'll try to find a supervisor for you.

I get what you're saying, but all I'm trying to say is that Disney is really good at x,y, and z. I used 6f for an example because yes, obviously 6f is up to Disney standards and never will be. Also, just because 6f isn't Disney doesn't mean I will never go again, but I just won't go for the theming and the food lol but for the nice roller coasters they have there.

But you used it as a comparison and what I'm saying that it's a totally unfair comparison.

In my mind putting me up against Venus Williams and then saying how much better Ms. Williams is at tennis. well yeah!!

You compare six flags food against disneys. that's a totally unfair advantage. Same thing with the theming. six flags isn't trying to give you theming, they totally get that you will not be there for multiply days.

Covered lines. I guess disney should have covered lines, they've got about 50X's the operating cost that six flags does.

Some one tried to compare the employees at the two venues. Once again apples and oranges.

So the reasons you give for loving disney over six flags are not valid imo. like I said that's like putting my tennis game up against one of the Williams sisters and then saying why Venus and Sarina are so much better.

Now how about you compare it to Universal? Now you get more of a challenge. Now you get a true argument because when you compare it to some one on equal footing things don't go disney's way as much.

One thing I love about Disney is that they're the only third party entity I allow to come up, open my wallet and I say... "Here, take all you want!"

Their marketing is surpassed by no other corporation in history! For some reason I like adults playing make believe in fairy tale kingdoms and furry costumes all the while charging me for the pleasure of the acquaintance.

Actually I don't think I compared the food of 6f to Disneys, (if you want to go back to my originial post and check, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I did) I did compare the level of theming and detail however.

actually I did compare the food never mind. I don't know why I did, since I really didn't eat anything there, but I think I was doing a comparison of how there are more a/c places to eat at Disney. But I posted this in the morning so I can't really remember. :confused3
