Why go to Hollywood Studios now?

As bummed as I am about some of the closures (no more Phineas and Ferb, Animation Academy or Mulch Sweat and Shears), it's not a Disney trip for me without riding Star Tours 5 or 6 times, and at least a couple of rounds on TSMM. I know not everyone wants or can justify Hoppers, but this is why I love them. For next year, I'm planning DHS for my arrival day park, plus another day hopping between DHS and Epcot, and I will probably find time on another day to hop to DHS long enough to hit a couple of favorites.

FWIW, I did the math, and my 7 Day Hopper from UT works out to about $58 a day for unlimited admission to all the parks I can handle, which sounds good to me.

Now if they would extend the SW fireworks to at least April 9...

Honestly as more things have been added to the park through the years, my interest in it has only grown slightly. I've never been on RnR (back when I wanted to I had no one to go with me and now I am too scared lol) and I don't go on ToT. I was there in October and I still kick myself over not planning out our day better because I missed the BATB show and the Indiana Jones show AND the Stunt Show. Honestly still now I am trying to figure that out because when we went the park wasn't THAT crowded (still more crowded than I would have liked lol) anyway so the most we waited that day was like 20 minutes for the Great Movie Ride.

I've often felt like we were running around like crazy at the studios, crossing the park to try and fit all the shows in, and not accomplishing much. This past trip (11/2015) I used touringplans.com for our Studios day. I even used their recommendations for FP+. I can't believe how much we accomplished and how orderly it all was. Best idea I've had in awhile! We didn't see Disney Jr. or the Frozen Sing-along (no interest, DD is 22) or LMA (saw it last time... not hugely interested), but I think we hit everything else... and we didn't even arrive at Rope Drop! Definitely one of our best trips to the Studios!

I still wonder how they are going to focus this park. I don't like the concept of dedicated "Lands" (Star Wars Land, Cars Land, Toy Story Land) because then the area becomes about those specific things. I'd like to see them maybe do an "AnimationLand" and a "Live-Film-Land" and incorporate different attractions into those themes. The Great Movie Ride could still be an anchor, because it includes both. B&tB, Frozen, TSMM, Cars, Little Mermaid, Muppets, Disney Jr. all head to AnimationLand, leaving Star Wars stuff, Indiana Jones, Tower of Terror, Shrunk the Audience playground all going to Live-Film-Land. At least there'd be some organization and sense. NOT sure where RnRC would go, though... not sure how it actually plays into the Studios, except as a recording studio. Oh well, if Disney calls and wants to use my idea, I'll only ask for a small chunk of cash, LOL!

I am still a DHS fan. We are a park hopper family--much easier for us because our "kids" are grown people, so we don't have to haul gear around. On our last trip, we split our time there. Our 1st full night we took advantage of EMH and hit a ton of rides. Because everyone is poo-pooing the place, we walked right on Star Tours, Great Movie Ride, and Muppets. Then we went back on Day 3 with FP+ for TSMM and ToT. DD got to do the character greet with Baymax & Hiro. For me, it's not just about the thrill rides. I still love the atmosphere and relaxation. We love Sci-Fi.

I don't believe for a hot minute that Disney doesn't understand the hit DHS will take before the place is transformed. They've already included some attractions people enjoy, and they are only the tiniest, temporary bit of what's ahead. If we weren't a park hopper bunch, I could see the debate, but for us, DHS is a major part of our visit.

First of all, the only thing I am truly bummed about closing is the Writer's Stop (of course the Earful Tower will be missed too), that was our go to on-the-go breakfast spot (loved the Carrot Cake Cookies, but am glad to hear you can get them in another location according to Isildur's Bane). But as for the question is it worth it to go to DHS now that there are many more closings happening in the next few months? Well, to answer that question (at least for my family), we say yes, however it wouldn't be a full day park for us until of course SW Land and TS Land is completed. We are in the very early stages of planning out a trip in November and I had just asked my DH last night if we should even bother with going to that park while we are there due to all of the closures and construction that is going on. He said it would definitely be worth it for half the day just so we can ride ToT (well at least him and the kids can ride it, I can't stomach that ride), RnRC, TGMR, TSM, watch B&TB and Muppets 3D, and check out SW Launch Bay. Then of course have lunch at Sci-Fi (which is a must for our family).

I would still visit as I love the feel of the park plus there is still plenty for me to do.

Again, people have been moaning about the lack of quality attractions and wanting new stuff, they are finally doing it and people are complaining

Is there an open date for Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land? And do we know what the new park name will be?

We enjoy HS, but I'm super bummed Darth Vader will be gone. We'll be there in April and DD was super excited about meeting him. It was her #1 choice for M&G.

If park hopping it's worth it, not sure I'd buy a one day ticket, the new Star Wars Launch Bay is worth seeing.

This is def my least fave park and now that they re-did CA they are very similiar however we only get to go once every 3 to 5 years and it has been 6 years since our last trip so we do have a day built in for it. We are buying 6 days tickets so as someone mentioned it is not that much more. Could we have used that day as a down day or for something else? Maybe but we are still going to go because TOT is different than CA and we love RNR and the GMR. I don't know if I will even bother with TSMM because I want to use my FP for RNR or something else and we have it at CA anyway. I have a feeling we will be going and leaving after our lunch (doing Brown Derby). If I lived there or went more often I would prob skip it.

We may go to it.... We are only going down for 1 night to drop our college student off. :)

Honestly, you could make this same argument for EP (no Soarin', no Maelstrom) and AK (you pretty much have Safari, Dinosaur, EE, Kali and two shows), however, for me, there is more to a park than just the rides and attractions. In DHS, you still have three major rides (ToT, RnRC, TSMM), Star Tours, plus the addition of Launch Bay and the Star Wars fireworks. If there is a Star Wars fan in your family, it's THE place to go.

Honestly, for us, until the new Frozen attraction and the new Soarin' ride opens, our trips are on hold. My DS will want to meet Kylo Ren, so we'll be heading to DHS for at least half a day when we go back.

What is the projected opening date for the new Frozen attraction ????????

Didn't see one mention of the Frozen Sing a long. Thought it was sooo much fun, and I am the mother of adult boys. It's very tongue in cheek, great for fans and non fans alike. There is still plenty to do, and VERY excited for what is coming.

Yes I definitely forgot to mention that in my previous post, that show is really fun and one that we would watch again, even though we are all kind of getting tired of the whole Frozen thing...those narrators really make the show.
