Why get a 1 day base and the pay the...

A lot of folks, like myself, do the 1 day base ticket. Mostly because we already have APs. We also do the 1 day base tickets when not everyone in your party need the same tickets. In September my son, GF, DD, GS were all in the same room. I had 8 free tickes for my son to use. His GF: I bought her a 10 day ticket w/hopper from the CM employee store earlier; my GS: he's an AP holder; and my DD: she was only staying 4 days, while the rest of us were staying 10 days--I had 2 free tickets for her stay too. My son used his one day base ticket plus his free tickets. My daughter use her 1 day base ticket, and used son's GF's 1 day base ticket, plus free tickets we gave her. My grandson used his AP, plus we still have his oneday ticket to use to renew his AP next year. Also, if folks are planning to do off site stuff: SeaWorld and US, then they don't want to get a ticket too large also. I like that Disney knows that now all tickets fit everyone's situation.

We are doing the free dining this time, just 2 of us. We will use our one day base tickets to apply to the next renewal of our APs (mine in October and DH in May).

The reason I only bought 1 day passes (and probably the reason most people are doing it) is that we're already passholders, so we don't really need tickets. I'm planning on socking them away until we're ready to buy passes again, and then upgrading them at that time.

If you plan on buying tickets with the package, there's no reason I can think of not to go ahead and buy them now, unless you just need time to save up for them.

Ok well i have no ap's and no tickets what should i do and my aaa agent is not there and another woman is and she has no clue she is not hurring at all Should i call myself PLEASE HELP!!!!!

If you have no tickets and no plans to return to WDW in the future, then get whatever tickets you need for your stay. If you have plans to return, buy the most days that you can afford to get right now and add with no-expiry.

You could always make a ressie with WDTC yourself if you do not feel that your TA is working fast enough. You would have to make a $200 deposit for the package. If the TA comes thru for you, you can always decide whether to cancel the package you have with her and get a refund or cancel the one you made. Just be aware that even though WDW does not have a cancellation penalty until 45 days prior to checkin, some TAs will charge a fee for ANY cancellation.

We bought a two day ticket because we already have leftover tickets from our last visit.

Now I need to stop myself from just going all out and purchasing 10 day non-expiring tickets in advance to cover the next trip!!!

can apply them to an AP renewal or hold then until later? When I was there last year during the free dining special we already had tickets and I asked if I could just hold on to the 1 day passes and use the hopper ones I had and I was told "no" that they would not issue me a paper ticket for that 1 day pass if I didn't use it.

So I guess my question would be did my CM tell me false info and did anyone take those 1 day passes last year and not use them then and when they left they received a 1 day WDW ticket to hold onto?

No, they did not give us 1 day tickets. The ticket is on your room ID. I just put a posted note on the one ticket we didn't use and tucked it away for another trip.

ctc917 - Yes you can apply the base tickets towards an AP renewal. I needed to renew my AP this past February and actually applied my base ticket from last year's free dining package toward my AP renewal. I am holding onto my son's ticket and will apply that to his AP that I will be purchasing in June.

The tickets are put onto your room key - just hold on to those room keys and you should be fine. You will need to turn them in at the guest services location. I did mine in DTD at guest services.

Call any AAA office in the country. Nobody says you have to use a local office.

My reason for purchasing the one-day pass is different than everybody else who posted here.

I bought one-day passes because we were just in Disney last week for four days. It was our first trip. I'm not sure how I want to work the free dining trip. I'm considering doing one day at SeaWorld and one day at Universal Studios. If I do that, then I'll only need a 3-day MYW pass instead of 5-day passes. There's also a chance we might decide to take a day off completely (since my feet hurt soooooo bad after four consecutive days in the parks). If we do that, then I'll only need a 2-day park pass. It was easiest to just order 1-day passes now and decide later what to upgrade to. It's not like there's any penalty or fee for upgrading in a few months.

We got 1 day passes because we aren't sure what we want/need. We'll probably get a 10 day hopper with no exp. when all is said and done but I didn't want to be tied to that decision.

Plus with a 1 day, the amount you're required to have paid in full 45 days out will be less. Might be incentive for some, that extra 45 days to save. We'll most likely make our decision much earlier and have it all paid off anyway just so all we need is spending money, but for some that extra month and a half time to save could be a huge bonus.

Glad I found this thread this is exactly the subject I was looking for! We have never stayed onsite before so we have always just had paper tickets. We are getting one day passes for our party of 4 because 3 of us need passes and 1 does not. So we will be upgrading 3 at the time of the visit but wanted to hang on to the 4th for future use.

Please tell me if I've go this right. Each person in the party gets a room key with their ticket info encoded on it. The 3 that need to upgrade will take our tickets to guest services and the one day passes will be applied to the cost of the upgraded tickets. Then we just keep the fourth person's room key and it will be valid to redeem in the future.

Some addtional questions. 1) If we want to upgrade in the future is the one day ticket valued at what you paid for it or what the value of a one day ticket is at the time you redeem it? 2) If in the future we decided to just use it as a one day pass can we just take it straight to the park and put it through the turnstile or do we still need to go to guest services? 3) As long as we don't run the room key we want to keep through the turnstile, the one day ticket on it won't expire even though the room info on it will show the trip the ticket was purchased for was more than 14 days prior? And finally 4) Do the room keys have individuals names tied to them? If so, can a ticket be redeemed to be applied to an upgraded ticket by someone other than the name that is linked to the key?

Sorry that was so wordy. Hope that all made sense. I look forward to hearing (or should I say reading) the answers. I really appreciate all the great information everyone provides on this board!!

Thanks,
Jeanne

my understanding is that you can't use it at a future date unless you add the "no expiration" option (which isn't even available on a 1-day pass). i'm also pretty sure that even if you got two-day tickets instead and added the "no expiration" option that you'd need to purchase that option for every member of your party.

Expiration only comes into play when a ticket is first used, not purchased. That's why the one day doesn't have the option - because the first time you use it, that's it - it's done. You can hang onto the one day and it'll never expire.

Alrighty. . . so my friend and I are concidering doing the Free Dining in September. I have an annual Pass. She has nothing. Do I have this right? We can book the package, with one day base ticket for both of us. Then she can upgrade her ticket to however many days we need after we arrive, correct? Can she use my one day base ticket (instead of me saving it for when I renew my AP)?

My daughter used 2 of the 1 day tickets she and another in her party got in September and it was not a problem. The other person in the room had a 10 day ticket and didn't need her one day ticket. Technically, I would say no you can't use it because it has someone's name on it, BUT, since it's only used once, the person who uses it will initiate it with their finger scan and have to sign it. Not a big deal. Bottom line, Yes it can be done and yes someone in our family has done it. The worse that could happen is that Disney could ask for a picture ID, but highly doubt they would bother with a ticket being used for the first time (and last time). My only thing is is that these one day tickets are worth alot of money, so I would always suggest using them to upgrade to a better value ticket, even it the ticket is not used now and held for a later trip.

so if you hang onto the 1 day pass how do you do this? You keep your room key card and use that the next time you come is that how its done?

How do you do this? We're AP holders, they expire in Dec and we're doing the free dining pkg in Aug so we got 1 day base tickets.

TIA

This seems to be the conventional wisdom. And when you look at the MYW pricing structure, it's hard to argue with this.

But I'm starting to think that, for people who stay on site, this might not be the right move. Back when room only codes were prevalent, unused tickets were great. But now it seems disney has moved toward building in the steepest discounts into MYM packages -- whether it's with free hopping and plus features or dining. The point is that every time you return, you'll be required to buy at least a one day pass to take advantage of disney's biggest savings -- for a family of 4 this is about a $240 tarrif to take advantage of the package features. Seems like hoarding MYW tickets with no expire can lead to spending lots of money to get the no expire and ending up with drawers full of unused tickets to take advantage of next years' MYW package discount (or, giving back the "savings" of purchasing multi-day never expire tickets by constantly having to spend $60 a pop for a 1 day ticket).

The psychic benefit of having never expire tickets is neat -- you can always be planning the next trip. But I'm really starting to think that the buy-what-you-need-as-you-need it model might be more sound and preserve maximum flexibility to save money down the line.
