Why do they ask the age of kids?

When I made our ressie as ASMu, I couldn't remember the age of my DN. It's just me and him in the room, so I just said two adults (instead of one adult and one kid). Does it made a difference to anything if it's one adult and one kid? (It turns out he's 11.) Should I call back and change that? --If it doesn't really matter for anything, I'd rather not bug them again since I've already called several times checking for a vacancy on the first night of our trip. (Do they make a note on your ressie for each time you called, or only if something's changed?)

It won't make any change for the cost of your room. Disney doesn't have single occupancy rates (although they do charge extra for more than 2 adults in a room). It also won't make a difference for the price of the tickets if you're getting them with the room, since Disney charges 10 year olds as adults for tickets. Just mention it when you check in.

I got into a conversation today with the CM while making my ressies for ASMu today as well and apparently they're trying to keep up a file for return customers in their computer systems. They had the ages of my kids from about two years ago but this time she actually put in their birth dates so supposedly it will update each time I call, in theory.
They really only use the info for park tickets and such so it really doesn't matter unless you plan to purchase something that has age related pricing. Actually an 11 yo (like my dd) are considered 'juniors' but you got me as to what else is priced in that category except resort packages!
I believe they intend to have records on families so as to better serve us in the future. Hopefully, that will translate into some kind of specials or discounts further down the road.

At one time, the 'junior' designation was used with the dinner shows. I was at WDW when I turned 18 and dad paid "Junior" rates for me and 14 year old sister. Bad part was, I was legal to drink in NY, dad ordered me a beer, and they kept taking them away. Apparently, the junior rate was to differentiate from the kids rate, because we ate more than a 5 year old, and the adults who could have alcohol.

Haven't noticed it mentioned in any of the more recent guides, tho.

BTW, they may want to know children if you're putting room charge privleges on the room key. Don't know if you want the nephew to have that, but if not, you can always change it at check in...
