Why do the English wear hats on their foreheads?

Hey add this, according to another thread, you have no right to care about any of this unless you are an English citizen. My bad. :rolleyes1

Care about what exactly? The hats? :lmao:

I thought the Spencer girls (Diana's nieces) had awesome hats. They were fashion forward without going over the top.

It's quite possible many of us are originally citizens of England. Haven't you seen recent episodes of "Who Do You Think You Are?" ;)

Apparently anything, I was admonished for thinking Charles is a *** and hoping he'll never ascend the throne with his sidepiece :), now no dissing the hats...talk about how to ruin a good wedding!:headache:

PS: The Spencer girls carry those silly hats amazingly well. They almost...almost, don't look ridiculous!

What beautiful girls. Now their hats are even over the top for me, but definitely more presentable and respectful than those other contraptions. I would have loved to have seen it be windy today. Can you imagine how many whiplash victims there would have been. Once a good gust gets up under one of those things -- IT'S FLYING NUN TIME!

Crazy hats seem to be Beatrice's "thing" as evidenced here at Peter Phillips wedding (her cousin.)

Oh for crying out loud!!!!!

Is she moonlighting as a (bad) fashion designer?

Someone posted on the viewing thread that they had a child who asked if it was Lady Gaga today. Out of the mouths of babes!

It seems quite attention seeking.

I would like to know the history too! This is the hat that caught my eye this morning - I actually hit re-wind when she came into view.

I think BOTH of these hats would be so much better if worn on the side. I kind of like the one on the left.

Wow. They are gorgeous girls. I agree they wore the hats well.

I actually like this butterfly one. I know it would not look good at all if it were centered on her head like today's contraption.

I heard quite a few comments about Kate's makeup today during the airing. I think they should have been discussing Beatrice's makeup instead. Looks like two black eyes. I'm not a fan of the butterfly hat, but I think she looked much prettier with less makeup. And I actually think her sister Eugenie is very pretty.

I agree. I couldn't see much of their dresses, but the parts I could see looked subdued and tasteful. A tasteful dress and makeup makes that silly hat look much less silly.

I liked a lot of the hats and fascinators that we saw today. Not Anastasia and Drizella's, but many of the others.;) I also liked Posh's shoes. No idea why she'd want to wear sensible shoes.:scared:

You think these hats look ridiculous? Just wait until Royal Ascot Week LOL

Exactly. It's always seemed to me to be a bit of sport for these big occasions for the women to find the most outrageous hats as possible. I think it's all meant to be a bit tongue-in-cheek. It's obviously not something they wear during their daily lives, but part of the tradition of these kinds of events. The hats are always my favorite part of lavish English events. The crazier the better I say!

I've never heard David Beckham speak. I did last night. :scared1: He sounds like a whiney child. Kind of killed it for me. :sad2:

I saw them leave the church in a carriage and then left for work. When did they get in a car? Guess I'd better go back and watch more video -- I missed something.

And Harry with the kidlets. Why is it that he looks like he completely fits in and is enjoying it as much as the children? ;) I think Harry is much happier with them than he would have been with the adults. I know he and Prince William and Kate are adults, but there was an endearing, childlike quality to them at times today. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean immature, but rather playful.

For me, it's not a childlike quality, it's that they don't put on airs. Most of the older royals, just don't seem to be approachable, while the younger ones do.

And he is very adorable in that picture. Looks like he is having the time of his life.

They did go back to the palace in a carriage , after they were on the balcony and after they had there lunch with 600 people they came out in the car to go rest at the place Prince William left this morning. Rest up for the dinner Charles is throwing them of 100 people of close friends and family. This surprised everyone!

Then the Queen and Charles and Cameia are leaving and Harry is having his bash, the couple is staying for that too by the sounds of it.

Everyone now is wondering if she will change into something different for the night celebrations and what that might be.

I am almost willing to bet, not only will she be wearing a different gown for the dinner Charles is hosting, but there will be a 3rd dress for the party for the young adults.

Loved how he drove them over to the other location.

Small ones, like this one, I don't mind.

Bigger and dressier, but still not bad.

It may be because she's wearing them on the side of the head and not in the middle of her forehead, that they don't look so bad.

Found a couple more:

I think this one goes very well with her outfit.

This one - I don't know about. I think if it as a bit smaller, I'd like it.
