Why did so many people here join in the early to mid 2000's?

I rarely see anyone here who joined after 2008. Why is that? How are you guys still active all these years later?

I joined because I left another forum at that time and this one looked interesting. I read a few other Disney forums but this is the only one I actively participate in. I am still active because I still go to WDW and always need up to date info. The Disney website doesn’t always make it easy to find out about changes.

I joined in 2018 when we were planning a Disney trip after not being there for a number of years. I also belong to several non-Disney forums. People's interest may change or they move on to other things. Many of the same topics get discussed over and over here, so perhaps for some they have gotten all of the useful information they needed and moved on to other things. I can't speak for everyone else but only for what I like to discuss.

Maybe because you were reading a 17 year old thread, that was started in 2007. If you read more threads, you’ll see people posting who joined at all different times.

August, 1999 will show as the earliest. There was a software change then and everyone here at that time had to re-register. I had to re-register again for moderator purposes in April, 2000.

There were fewer alternative choices in those early days of Internet. A lot of people left in 2004. There was a mass banning in about 2009 or so.

Maybe those are a few contributing reasons.

My first trip with my husband and kids was in 2000. The following year, shortly after 9/11 I made plans with a 2 week window since my sister and parents were going. That was and will always be the shortest wait between deciding to go and leaving on the vacation!!! I have no idea how or why I found this site. Forevermarypoppins is a 3rd pseudo for me. I lost #1 name years and years ago due to some tech issue and I gave up #2 name after I posted a family thing just for conversation and boy oh boy did it take a wrong way direction.

I googled a Disney question when I started planning my 2019 trip. Probably something to do with Pop or the Skyliner, found the answer here and stuck around. I have a side job that brings me in and out of MCO a couple times a year so I continued to active and now am planning a trip for my 15th wedding anniversary.

I lurked for several years as well before joining. I finally joined when I was going to make the trip to WDW but Covid put a stop to that. Not sure if I'll ever make it now.

There are MANY... I rarely see people that joined before 2008. lol

I lurked on another Disney Cruise Line website for several years that had a link to the DIS. That website was Dave's Disney Cruise Line Tribute Page. To be honest, I thought this was part of Dave's page for many years and when I realized it was it's own page, I joined.
Dave shutdown his website in 2006, not sure why. Rumor was he was a long haul trucker and it got to be too much to keep up.

I came by this site in March, 1999, almost 25 years ago now, while researching a late 1999 Disney trip. The trip was to celebrate Marie's remission from stage lll breast cancer in 1998. And Marie is still here, 25 years later, though she gave up and left the site in that 2004 exodus I mentioned earlier.

Over the years I've met a lot folks from here at WDW and DL along with many dis meets. Many have become online friends, others, real life friends. It's a good site, and getting better with the current folks running the place now. I enjoy the congeniality of the people here on the CB. I enjoy the quick, accurate answers to my questions, or just updating myself, when planning a Disney trip,from the other boards here.

I joined in 2004 when I was planning our family's first WDW trip. I came for the WDW info but stayed for the Community Forum.

I joined in April 2010, I believe. We had planned a gulf coast beach trip for June, but the oil spill changed our plans. We decided on Disney instead. I stumbled across the DIS while planning. I hung out on the planning boards for a long time before making my way over to the Community board.

The Community Board is now my “home.” We go to WDW about every 18 months, and I will pop into the planning boards to make sure I’m not missing out on important info before going.

I learned so much from the planning forums that I gravitated here,
and I've stayed through it all.
I'm the first one to tell people that the DIS forums saved us so much money
it's hard to put a figure on it!
All the tips, tricks, links, etc. really have been a blessing for the 3 trips we've taken to WDW.

I can’t even recall what year I started looking for information on this site. But do recall being assigned a start date of 1999 during some system change.

Today I still can learn something new here or find an answer to a question.
