Why can't put soda in the luggage?

I don't understand why we cannot carry soda in the luggage.

Although some suggested carrying them on and put them right back to the stateroom as soon as it is ready, it is possible that the stateroom is not ready until 4:00 pm or later.

How can we carry the drinks around?

What about water bottles? Can we put them inside the luggage?

Any dfference if it is soda in plastic bottles instead of canned soda?

WHat about coolers? Why aren't coolers allowed to be brought on board?

Any clues please?

I don't know if there's a rule against packing soda in checked baggage so much as it might not be a good idea. Checked baggage gets kicked around pretty good both on airplanes and cruise ships. Would you want your luggage doused in soda? I would think there's a good chance of canned or bottled soda exploding in your checked luggage.

I've never experienced the rooms not being ready until 4:00pm. They always tell us they will be ready after 1:30, but they're often ready before that. I've gone right to the room after boarding on occasion, and the room steward said the room was ready enough for us to leave our carry-ons.

Many people buy drinks on the way to the port and put them in a rolling carry-on or soft-sided cooler and carry them on board that way.

While the cruise docs say that you can't bring coolers on board, anecdotal evidence would suggest that they do allow soft-sided coolers to be carried on board.

I can't give you the reason as to why DCL doesn't allow coolers onboard. However, it's basically up to the company as to what they allow or do not allow. Since they own the ships, they set the rules.

I have heard many other posters say that Disney is one of the least restrictive cruise lines when it comes to allowing people to bring aboard their own drinks and/or alcohol.

We have always brought cans of Coke onboard when we have cruised. We usually just pack it in one of our carry-ons. 6-8 cans don't prove to be too heavy to lug around for a little bit before the stateroom is ready.

I haven't cruised in quite a few months.. and maybe I was breaking the rules when I did.. but I packed soda in my suitcase on two of my cruises. I brought the 20oz bottles. I have also brought beer and bottles of wine in my carryon.

If you are concerned about carrying it on.. your stateroom is usually ready between 1-2pm. So really you just carry it to the buffet, and by then you can almost go to your room.

hello

I just got back from 7 day western and i brought a 12 pack of coke on in my checked luggage.Once on the ship i put my drinks in the stateroom fridge ,it takes about 2days to get cold LOL. Also i was traveling with friends and we each packed a bottle for water . We also brought a soft sided cooler packed in our bags to put our water bottles into.We had no problems and we filled our water bottles on deck 9,I think the ship charges like 2.50 or3.50 for a bottle of water. That would get expensive. Also coke products are free at lunch and dinner.

If you brought sodapop and/or beer in your luggage...wouldnt it be too heavy to carry?LOL I think I am going to be too anxious and high strung to be carrying pounds of cans around! LOL

Are the beverages that expensive on board?

I read some place that you can just carry the beer and pop on also...that Disney doesnt mind.

I think I'll resort to water and lemonade til dinner time, and have me a nice drink that I can and will appreciate, especially if it costs me a pretty penny!

Good luck & Enjoy!::yes::

Soft drinks really aren't that expensive onboard. A fountain Coke runs about $1.93 or so after the automatic gratuity.

I think a lot of people bring soft drinks onboard because they have specific drinks they want. Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Vanilla Coke, etc.

We just like to have a few on hand in the stateroom for a quick caffeine fix! We're junkies, what can I say! :hyper:

They also sell a mug where you can get refills-all for one price. I used the refillable mug when I went on the cruise but we found that at certain bars the soda was not that good. Plus sometimes you had to wait a long time in line. The next time I go on a cruise I am bringing my own soda, mostly for the convencience and for the taste.

We had water bottles and a rolling cooler inside our large piece of luggage (used the space to bring souveniers home after drinking all the water).

We had beer and wine in our carry on...didn't need any of these.

I asked a similar question back in August - about bringing wine on board. The best answer was that the poster got a cardboard wine that held a case of wine. She filled it with wine and then taped it shut, wrapped brown paper around it, taped again, then cord and a handle. She used it as a carry on, both on the plane and to the ship. I think you could easily do the same thing with soda cartons. I have been thinking about that for wine, and putting one carton of soda or water in each suitcase (we like variety).

My problem is: I really don't want to put them in my carry-on as I find that really too heavy. Whenever I go on a trip I put dinks inside my luggage and it never explores!

I am thinking if I can buy some soda and water on my way to the Ship and bring them inside a luggage, that would be wonderful.

Let me rephrase my question:

Is it allowed to put water/soda inside a luggage instead of putting them in a carry-on?

I believe the answer is yes. I have checked an entire 22" rollerboard filled with beverages and they arrived in perfect condition. The key is to use bubblewrap and lots of it. I did put my three bottles of diet tonic water in my carry on. (I prefer diet tonic water and no cruise line offers that choice.) Nothing exploded. The suitcase contained gin and win. We bring our own for convenience not to save money. When our daughter goes to bed we like to have a couple of cocktails and when we bring our own it is convenient. When returning the cocktail suitcase can be used for purchases on the cruise. Kathy

We usually get a gift basked for our DD and always include some sodas for the whole family. We don't tote!

I had all my soda and water in a soft cooler and when I checked my luggage they checked my cooler too and it was delivered to my room with my suitcases. The porter asked me if there was ice in it, I told him no and he said then there was no problem checking it in curbside.

I wouldn't see why Disney would mind if you stuck it in a suitcase, especially if you was allowed to take it on the boat.
My fear would be that would explode in the suitcase, yucko!

Good luck,

Kathy

We packed a case of Diet Pepsi (can't stand coke products unless I absolutely have to) and left it in the case. Ziplock now has VERY LARGE bags - like for sleeping bags but taller. I put the case inside one of those bags and then wrapped the rest of the bag around it. I packed shoes under the case and then packed some other shoes and stuff on top of it. We checked the bag in and there was absolutely no problem. Then we had a fairly empty suitcase (except for the shoes) for our souveniers that we bought. It worked great. We also did bring some water but we packed in ziplock bags and in the middle of our clothes so there was some padding and protection - again, no problems.

We packed 12 bottles of wine in a box purchased for $3.00 at Beverages and More made specifically for transporting wine bottles. We merely taped up the box and check it like a piece of luggage. In-laws must have their wine every night before and during dinner and it saved us $200! Also, just threw the box away at the end of the cruise and nothing to worry about.

Did they bring the wine to dinner with them?

Actually, they never did come to think of it. We had the late seating, so they would have it before the show and then again between the show and dinner so it wasn't really necessary to bring it to dinner.

I had my suitcase and clothing ruined once by a traveler who packed soda in a suitcase. it broke open and leaked through into my bag which must have been stacked below it.

If you choose to do this, wrap everything in well sealed plastic bags.
