Why Can't Anyone Spell 'Ohana Correctly?

who cares? That place is terrible. Smoked meat? Blech! :rotfl2:

I go there for the cheesy potatoes and the bread pudding, which are delectable. I could just eat those. The shrimp is also good. But the beef and turkey are not good. And the sausage is nasty.

And this is why I try to sit down the table from you!!!! I agree about the meat being dry, but man....the potatoes and bread pudding are to die for. If I sit too close to you, I won't get my fair share!!! I can't wait to share 'Ohana with dh and dd in August!!!

Hmmm...I haven't been to 'Ohana in many years. Please tell me more about the cheesy potatoes and bread pudding. They did not offer that when I was there.

Christine, lol; I think you have too much time on your hands if someone spelling or mis spelling bothers you that much lol

That doesn't drive me batty, but it does drive me batty when people call one of the miniature golf places at WDW "Winterland Summerland". It's just Winter Summerland. That's it. :rotfl:

Oops - I just got out my calendar to take to WDW tomorrow and I'm guilty as charged. We have a 6:30 ADR at "O'Hanas" Saturday night - I wrote it just like that.

Oh, well, cheesy potatoes, here I come!!!!!

Next time let's tell them to just start with the potatoes and the dessert .

Christine - I'm not normally a bread pudding kind of person, but this is one of the best desserts I've had at WDW. I've never made it, but here's a recipe http://www.allearsnet.com/din/rec_obp.htm . And the potatoes are simply scrumptious. Haven't made them either, but here's a recipe http://www.allearsnet.com/din/rec_maui.htm .

'Ohana is expensive and the meat's not worth it, but going there to fight over the bread pudding and potatoes with a group of DISers is worth every penny :teeth:.

Due to my upcoming trip, I've been hanging out on the Restaurant Board. If I see 'Ohana spelled: O'hana one more time, I think I'm going to scream!

It's taking all my willpower to hold back over there and not snark out a response to the butchering of the restaurant name. I don't want to make them all feel badly, but sheesh!

I think I love you.

Added:
If you speak Pidgin, " 'Ohana's" is correct usage.
Like "Sandy's" is Sandy Beach, etc.

Actually, it's `Ohana, not 'Ohana. It's an `okina, not an apostrophe.

True, but ' works for both when you can't type things perfectly, like -- for an em dash or " for both left and right quotation marks. I don't know how to type those things on these boards; Word will format that stuff automatically, unless the 'okina is in the middle of a word, in which case it puts an apostrophe in. And the kahakō is even more problematic. (I had to go to a website to copy that one and paste it!)

Veddy cool. On my desktop, I downloaded the Hawaiian dictionary for Word; I'm not sure if it will love Office 97 yet, so haven't done it there. I get lazy, though, as I type it in haole style and it fills in all the proper punctuation. (As you can see by my lazy typing here.)

BYJ's Ohana is the American spelling, did you notice?

Why would you waste energy worrying about how someone spell's something? As long as you get what they are trying to say, then who cares?? :confused3

To each their own.
