To start, I am biased, I can't stand smoking. Not smokers, smoking. The short term effects....smell, illness, expense, among others...long term effects...illness, so often death, among others, make it so very undesirable, IMO. And I am a reformed smoker here, the worst kind, to be talking about tobacco companies, LOL. So, I have been there, 2 packs a day, regular, non-filter Camels, started as a kid, maybe age 14.
My point is this. I just got in the mail today, the current Fall Disney Magazine. There is a large insert, (you know the kind, when you open the magazine, you automatically open to IT) from a tobacco company....let's see which one....Phillip Morris. The title of the insert is...Raising Kids Who Don't Smoke, Peer Pressure & Smoking. While in the same mail today, there was a advertising piece for Skoal chewing tobacco....Are You Ready for an Intense Flavor Experience?. And one last week for Natalie, from, I think Phillip Morris, on some rock band promotion tie in to cigarettes.
They say they are trying to be responsible, why not quit making the damn things? Why not quit promoting them? Why have two totally opposite marketing strategies? Is there another business with THAT mindset....please stop, please start, please quit, please don't quit?
UGH!!!!!!!! Off my soapbox now.
