Why aren't Swan/Dolphin discounts good?

I am a teacher and have been looking to see if it would be worth it to try a stay at Swan or Dophin. No matter when I have entered in dates (off peak, etc), the lowest price I have found is $199. Is that really a good deal? IMO it is not a good deal at all, not to mention that normally a few of the days is much higher than that rate. Thoughts?

It depends on your dates, but we have gotten $149 in Juneand $179 in May. Try using Dreams Unlimited. They may be able to help.

It depends on your travel dates and whether or not the $199 is a good deal is in realtion to what a room at the YC/BC or BWI would run you for the same time frame.

I called last night to get some info on teacher rates...$349 a night for MLK weekend and $199-$219 a night for last weekend in April. Ouch!

These discounts have been getting fewer and less tempting since 2005. Prior to that, we'd get our choice of Swan or Dolphin in early March, a peak time, for $139 - $149 per night, plus we could refuse the Resort Fee and parking was free. In early Jan. of 2005, value season we had to do a split stay at S/D with 2 days at AllStar in between. In 2006 we paid $175 in early March and the resort fee was mandatory, parking had a charge. In March 2007 we couldn't find the discount at all for our March stay so we bought DVC points and stayed at BW for $168 per night with no taxes or fees added on. Last month we stayed at Swan for $169, plus. We've got BW again for March 2008 on DVC points.

The simple fact is that S/D will offer these only if they can't fill their rooms without them. We're at the end of some pretty good economic times in the USA, but there's signs that that is about to come to a painful halt. If so, S/D may have to resort to sweeter discounts in late 2008 and beyond.

I think the key to getting the best discounts (teacher, AAA, etc) is to book further ahead. Also, the discounted rates at the Dolphin are $20/nt less than the Swan, so be sure to check both.

I booked our Christmas 2007 stay last December. The original rate was $189 per night. I have checked the rates periodically and recently found the rates down to $149 the first night, $159 for the next several (including Christmas Eve) and $179 Christmas night. Now they're up again, some nights at $299.

Last December, rates were advertised at $129 per night at Christmas so I plan to keep checking back.

I believe, you need to periodically check the rates as they fluctuate.

Remember one thing. The value season for Disney and Swan and Dolphin are not the same. January and Febuary are value season for Disney but at the Swan and Dolphin they are in their peak season.

This is a great point. This is a very busy convention time for them.
