Why are SSR and AKL points so cheap?

please remind me, what is ROFR

Thank-you

ROFR is disney's right of first refusal.

when you decide to sell your pts, you have to find a willing buyer. then you have to submit the contract to disney.

if disney chooses, they can "step into the shoes" of the buyer and take the contract away from them. the seller gets the terms they agreed on, but the buyer has to start over. disney adds the contract to their inventory of pts available to sell or rent.

otherwise, disney can pass and allow the sale to go through to the original buyer.

i would suggest only jumping in through resale on these. It is a great deal if you get a great deal as well.

I would not plan on using these points for BLT too much, very hard to get in lately.

I agree with PPers. I also think when they get close to running out of SSR they will start ROFR. I have seen many pass in 40s and 50s.. and that is as much profit as BC in the 70s getting rofred.

I think SSR is nicer than AK in a # of ways, and somehow it is cheaper than Ak.. yes AK has animals and value rooms, but over all studio to studio personal opinion.. I pay the extra 2 points a night to go to SSR.

I think the opposite. I am an owner at kidani and my wifes parents own at ssr. Having stayed at both and living in new york i feel akv is the better resort. Since you have value rooms which are less points then i think all other dvc resorts, and you have concierge if you want it. Plus the animals.

Its all in what you like. considering disney likes the feel of north east type hotels and i live in the north east i like animal kingdom better due to it being so dfifferent.

Plus i like I can spend hours talking to people from africa.

Both resorts are good in different ways. I do think they should be more popular then they are. I think the main problem is that they are far from the parks. thats why they arent as popular.

We own at AKV and BWV. We stayed in SSR only once. We think it's....nice. We like it, don't love it. For us, and this is just our HO, it just seems too much like an off property timeshare place. The serenity and theming of AKV is a huge draw for us.

It really boils down to personal preference. I do agree with a PP on this thread, in that "why buy at SSR when you can get it at 7 months out?" That would be the decision maker if I were currently in the market. We've gotten SSR 5 days out, so I definitely agree with why buy there when it's easy to get on short notice.

I also definitely agree with buy where you love. It's a big investment in vacationing, and vacations should be the best they can be (again JMHO)!

Good luck with your decision and happy planning.

You can look at it another way, why spend alot of extra money on another resort, when you can buy SSR fairly cheap, it has low dues, and you can book the more expensive resorts at 7 months. I have had very little trouble booking any of the WDW resorts at 7 months out, and I have been booking for 11 years at all different times of the year.

When everything else is full, MS always seems to have SSR available. When they opened we couldn't get into treehouse as we didn't own SSR, but for spring break we even got treehouse two months out this year.

All THV have now been declared into inventory, the time of year can make a big difference, and the novelty of a new resort is wearing off.
