Why are pullover sweatshirts so expensive?

My son has a couple Carhartt pullover sweatshirts and wants a couple more for Christmas. He likes how heavy/warm they are and wears those instead of a big winter coat. His grandmother also bought yesterday (well gave us the money for us to pick it up for him) a Columbia "bubble" vest for Christmas. This is the first one he's had but he wanted to try one out, I guess. So with the heavy sweatshirt and vest, he should stay pretty warm this winter.

We went to Cabelas yesterday and these sweatshirts were "on sale" for $50. Why so fricken expensive? I'm sure we're just paying for the brand name but really? I thought maybe they would be running a "black Friday" sale on them, but nope.

You are definitely paying for the name brand. Carhartt is super expensive. They sell Carhartt at a local Maine store called Renys. If you ever make it up this way they have a several stores throughout the state of Maine. I think the one furthest south is Saco/Biddeford. They often have Carhartt on sale, but it is still expensive.

It's also about paying for quality. My family swears by carhartt, there's construction workers, equipment operators, farmers, gardeners, etc and we tend to have a very carhartt Christmas around here. We work outside in all elements. Carhartt keeps ya warm and toasty. I have a hooded sweatshirt my dad got for me 12 years ago, it gets daily wear- I use it like a coat, layered in colder weather. I wish my dress clothes held up as well as my work clothes! Check tractor supply or the carhartt website had some listed in the outlet section. The site also has a 'find retailer' search. We have several small dealers by us, I love the customer service they provide. If they don't have a color or size we want, they will get it for us. Stay Warm and good luck!

I just visited the Carhartt website. They are running a sale for two days, buy one get the second half off, and free shipping over $99. These are really heavy sweatshirts that tend to wear better than the cheaper brands that are more for fashion.

You aren't paying for brand name so much as quality when you buy Carhart. They aren't a "fashion" brand, they are a work brand, made for working outside in the elements in. My DH practically lives in Carhart and while it's pricey, the clothes have definitely held up much better than off brand stuff.
