Update part 3, Thomas the Tank Engine!
Ok, last but not least, at least for today, Thomas the Tank Engine!!
This was actually the 3rd time weve been to A Day Out With Thomas. We went the first time in 05 when DS was just about to turn 3 and we went last year.
DS, just about 6 now, has loved Thomas the Tank Engine forever! I truly mean LOVE! I could recite every Thomas DVD and book in my sleep, I know every engines name, color, # and back story. We have about a million dollars worth of Thomas trains, wooden one, metal ones, plastic ones, even electric ones (those are DHs) in my house. DSs room was Thomas for a while, but now Ive taken most of that stuff down to make room for his Star Wars stuff. He lived Thomas for a good 3 years!! Hes just in the past year has started to grow out of it a bit and move onto Star War and Indiana Jones!
He still loves Thomas, but he doesnt play with the stuff as much as he used to. He tells me Ya, know Mommy, I still love Thomas
Going to see Thomas was a special birthday request from him this year. I told him that I thought we should do something special instead of having a birthday party with his friends this year, I feel bad that people would give him a gift when he has more than enough and the economy is so bad. I gave him a bunch of ideas, the Bronx Zoo, the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum (hes very interested in all things military) etc, etc, he said Mommy, what I really want to do is go see Thomas again! Okey Dokey!
So I made the arrangements!
Thomas goes on tour and goes to numerous railroad museums and associations around the country. The closest place to us that he comes is a place in Connecticut. Hes there the 1st 2 weekends in November!
So, yesterday we took the ferry from way out here on Eastern Long Island (Orient) to New London, CT. The ferry ride takes about an hour and half and is soooooooo much better than driving. Especially because wed have to drive all the way around through NYC! We took an 8 am boat, which means we left our house at 7, got breakfast and went to the ferry. Be arrived in New London about 9:20.
The ferry ride is always fun! The only problem this time was that DS1 was being terrible!! He didnt want to sit, he didnt want anything to do with anything DH and I did to try to keep him happy!! UGGH!
DS 1 and DH in a brief happy, occupied moment, doesnt DH look tired!?
DS almost 6 playing with his favorite stuffed animal (yes, its a rat!) and an Indiana Jones
lego guy on the ferry!
The railroad, Essex Steam Train, is maybe 20 minutes from where the ferry! We got there about 10 minutes to 10 and got our tickets from will call!
Our ride with Thomas was scheduled at 12:45. But there is lots of stuff to do! Not as much this year as in the past years. But, no matter.
DS and DD in front of a picture of Henry.
They have rides for the kids,
Doesnt DD look bored!!
You can meet Sir Topham Hatt, I caught DS1 just as he ran away.
They have different trains to look at, this is the one that pulls at the other end of Thomass train,
Of course they have lots of food! DD and DS ate hot dogs at 10 am! Yuck!
DS1 had some fries!
And of course Thomas himself!!
The ride with Thomas is about a ½ hour. His train had 8 cars full of families! They have a great narrator that tells a story along the way!
The kiddos having fun before Thomas pulled out!
DS1 goofying around with Daddy!

We did everything there was to see and do between when we got there at 10ish and our 12:45 train so when we got off we headed out. It had started to rain and was terribly icky! Im glad it didnt rain in the morning! It wouldnt have been as much fun!
DS was very excited to have had another Day Out with Thomas!!
DH enjoys going to see Thomas as much as DS does! He loves trains, he has since he was a kid. He said well go back in a few years when DS1 is a little older and likes Thomas. Well see!
