Who's Gonna Have More Fun? Two PTR's for the Price of One!

Yep, same place we are. ::yes:: My boys must be at the same school your DH went to! You really should come visit. :cheer2: We are scheduled to leave summer of next year, but we're trying to get an extension for another year. :thumbsup2

I somehow missed this post from you a few days ago-- I'm so sorry! I bet your kids are at the same school my DH went to. Is it an acronym that starts with an S and end with an E????? That is so neat. He actually lived in a place that is no longer used as housing. A really super old place. I'd love to see if you've ever been there, as it is now a park or something crazy. I don't even know the name of it off the top of my head.

If you leave next year, any idea where you might be headed??

:lmao: This cracked me up! We are Southern Baptists as well, and I would agree that you could get by with eating it but not drinking it! :rotfl: I think the claim is that all the alcohol cooks out!

Well the my little old gray haired mama is going to the fiery pits b/c she has been known to sip whiskey from a spoon a time or two. For medicinal purposes you know.:rolleyes1 She says the spoon falls into the same category of the chocolate but somehow I'm not buying it.:confused3

Hi girls!! Just got caught up...we went to Colorado last week for vaca and it's taken a while for me to read I was soooo far behind!! Love all the pics and posts!!...yes,,the German Carmel shop is a must for you on this trip, true, if you eat the rum it's null and void, you did NOT drink it!:rotfl:
As for weather,...it was great in Colorado,..while we were gone, the little town right down the road from us(like8mile north,) was the hottest place..are you ready for this? .........the hottest place IN THE NATION!!!!:scared1: We came home to lots of scorched plants and the pool was super duper low on water! it was crazy...so yeah...we are done with the heat here already!!! But,Praise the Lord, we got a gooooood soaking rain storm yesterday. complete with high strong winds and hail. it's much appreciated in our drought area I can tell ya!!
Wow- welcome back! Sounds like it was a fun vacation although super hot! Glad you're here with us again and you got a good rain yesterday. The plants all needed it I'm sure.
I have to say ladies your PTR is proving to be most helpful! Every page I read I keep adding to my list of Must Do's for my next trip! Pick a Pearl, Universe of Energy (always skip that one too), and I need to make Passports now!

I'm so glad you are finding it helpful. We are happy to have you here!:goodvibes I always find stuff to do that I've never done before. I hope the day never comes where I say I've seen it and done it all. That would make me sad. :(
Welcome Back Shawna !

Sounds like you picked the right time to leave town and go to Colorado. Did you get lots of pictures? Never been out there but from what I have seen it is beautiful country.
We are having a mini heat wave here in Connecticut, yesterday, today and tomorrow all 90+ with the humidity rising each day to end in thunderstorms tomorrow night :scared1: I hate the threat of storms now since all these darn tornado outbreaks.
Stay cool :cool1:

I've never been to Colorado before either--- but hope to one day get there to see Tebow play for the Broncos. Hope your heat wave goes away soon for you.

Okay everyone-- have a wonderful day--- I'm going shopping with my MCat!:cloud9:

Sitting here reading your AK update and having lunch. The last 3 visits to Disney we went to AK but as of now we are planning on skipping it in October. I have found it to be hot and crowded each time we were there, first time in August, next time last week in January which should have been cooler, and then in mid-march. Honestly I do not think it ever is cool in AK
I had planned on one morning there then asked DH if he really wanted to go there he said no so I took it off our schedule and added an extra DHS morning instead of course the way I change my mind about things we might end up at AK afterall:rotfl:

Hmmm... AK is another park that is sort of a love/hate thing isn't it? As someone who loves to take pictures (and lots of them) I find AK to be absolutely beautiful! I could spend a whole day there with my camera going at it! But as for attractions, I think it is lacking. To me, the entire Dinoland area could be replaced with something else. I get that it is supposed to look like a tacky road show, but to me, that's the problem. :lmao: I can honestly say that I don't like anything in that whole area. But I think all the other attractions/shows are great and the trails are wonderful. I just don't think there is enough of them to entertain the crowds that come. And you are right, the park is so big and hot that it just wipes us out every time! But I do think I would miss it if I didn't go at all. Well, at least it is very shady with all the vegetation, so maybe you will enjoy it more this year than what you think?? :confused3 Thinking positive here! ;)

Gotta make something clear...it was the hottest place in the nation back here in Texas..not in Colorado!! LOL>..the weather there was perfect....so yeah, it was good...
Sheila, it was very beautiful, but dryyyyyy and we had a lot of wind...I am so not used to such an arid climate. And we have had some tornados hit & miss down here the last few months too, but not like the crazy stuff other places have gotten.
I agree with you Jo about the AK park...what's up with that place?:confused3 I reaaaally want to go there and enjoy it, but it always feel cramped, and crowded, and I just have a hard time liking much over there...so...we usually just skip it.I love the other 3 parks waaay to much to feel bad about it!

I like AK but agree, a half day is pretty doable there. On our last trip, we spent the whole day there. I much preferred the afternoon, after the crowds poured out. We walked on everything, the sun was setting and it was a gorgeous park to be in. This was in December however, not August. Probably way different temperatures I'd guess. ;) Finding Nemo looks cute. We've never done it either.

Good Morning everyone!

It is a dash cooler today-- I actually was able to walk the 'hood without gasping OR sweating, (Sorry Shelly--- I know you say we're ladies and we don't SWEAT-- we glisten... ) So maybe there is a little relief on it's way for most of you. However-- it is going to be hotter here today than in Orlando. WOW.

It has been miserably hot here the past week or so. At least we are getting some much-needed rain in the late afternoons the past few days, though. For that reason I decided to go for my walk in the morning today. I sometimes walk in the mall with a friend, but on the days I'm solo I like to walk outside. So I headed out to the lakes around campus and started my walk around 9:30. It actually wasn't too bad, even though I was glistening a good bit! But for some unexplainable reason I decided to go around for a second time. There's a first time for everything, I guess. So it follows suit that there's a last time for everything, right? My normal 4 miles/1 hour walk became an 8 miles/2 hour walk. :scared: (I wasn't scared, that was just the closest thing to a sweating smilie I could find. That's probably how my face looked, too) In 93 degrees you don't glisten, you sweat! I thought about you and Shelly as I was walking, and how you would do in the heat, and I have to tell you that although I was hot and sweating, I wasn't miserable. My feet hurt me more than anything! I recommend y'all bringing a bandana or something that you can wet with cold water to place on the back of your neck for quick relief. Also, splashing your face off with cold water or a piece of ice will help, too. Just give in to the sweat and counter it with some H2O. Ice, ice, baby! :woohoo:

I was going to let Shelly post her AK post first -- but since she is probably as I write on a bus filled with screaming kids - she won't have the energy to post hers when she gets home.

Her AK post will probably be short and sweet! Just like her visits there. ;)

Sooooooo--- you get me.

Well, we are very happy to get you! :)

I give you....

Animal Kingdom:

DSC07083.jpg

Ah, Animal Kingdom.

What can I share with you about how I feel?

We have sort of the same feelings about it as DHS, only with a different twist. We do go to it every time. And every time we walk out, asking ourselves what just happened.

MC really wants to try to spend some time here, to get the “feeling” of the park.
I think we will be gasping for air after ten minutes so the only feeling we will have is the seat on the tram on our behinds as we wave buh-bye to it.

The last time we went it was crowded-

DSC07179.jpg

DSC07063.jpg

DSC07080.jpg

And so we left after about an hour. Once again our desire to grow to love it was dashed.

Whoa, that is super crowded! Who can blame you for leaving?

Here’s the way we prefer it to be…. Nice and empty:
Floridagame648.jpg

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

So what all do we like to do here?
Obviously the theming is extraordinary here, so just walking around looking is high on the list of things to do:
DSC07058.jpg

DSC07078.jpg

DSC07071.jpg

Then there are the big rides-

EE (Belle can’t wait to ride it again!)
DSC07166.jpg

DSC07148.jpg

Floridagame640.jpg

Our fav! (well, everyone except DH)

Dinosaur (It makes me scream EVERY time.)
Floridagame684.jpg

I know what you mean! Even when I know something scary is going to happen, I still jump when it does.

Kilimanjaro Safari (Hellllllo Elephants! Love them!!!)
DSC07208.jpg

DSC07237.jpg

Better do that one first thing in the morning, before the animals get out of the heat.

Kali (I got soaked the one and only time we rode it and I didn’t dry out all day. Note to self- don’t wear jeans or jean shorts!)
DSC07142.jpg

I don't think I've done that one for the same reason. (I get it mixed up with a ride at Silver Dollar City) Wet tennis shoes and socks are no fun, either.

Triceratops Spin (A good substitute for Dumbo )
Primevil hurl (Belle’s first time!! No puking allowed!)
ITTBAB (Those glasses are sooooo chic)
Maharajah Jungle Trek (It’s beautiful in there)
DSC07104.jpg

DSC07106.jpg

DSC07110.jpg

DSC07117.jpg

We've never done any of these. I'm not even sure what the Maharajah Jungle Trek is. I'll have to look that up!

FOTLK (those flying monkeys are so funny!)
Pangani Exploration Trail (Gorillas! Who doesn’t love a hairy gorilla??)

I love FOTLK! It really makes me want to see The Lion King Broadway show (in NYC or a touring show) Have you seen it?

And of course, the Tree of Life--- up close and personal on the trails--
DSC07181.jpg

What do we hope to do that we’ve never done before?
Rafiki’s Planet Watch
Finding nemo the musical

We haven't done these, either. On our last trip we saw Tarzan Rocks. I assume Nemo took its place?

And that’s about it! I know that AK always seems more crowded than it really is- and b/c of all the vegetation it is hotter than the other parks, so I’m hoping to just make it thru a half day here . Long enough to once again come out scratching our heads saying we just don’t get it. The more things change, the more they stay the same…

The walkways are so much narrower than at the other parks, so combine the heat with being shoulder to shoulder with other sweaty bodies and that spells E--X--I--T Just be sure to go as early as possible, do as much as you can before it gets too hot, and get the heck out of Dodge!

Good Morning everyone!

It is a dash cooler today-- I actually was able to walk the 'hood without gasping OR sweating, (Sorry Shelly--- I know you say we're ladies and we don't SWEAT-- we glisten...;) ) So maybe there is a little relief on it's way for most of you. Well I survived the field trip!! :faint: It was a hot one. 97 here today. Only about 9 degrees cooler than Orlando. :scared1:

Uh yes, I was *glistening* quite a bit today. :rotfl:

I just have one thing to say -- SCHOOL BUSES SHOULD BE AIR CONDITIONED!!! ::yes::

I saw the link on the other thread and followed you guys over. It's like a party over here!

Sounds like you ladies are going to have amazing trips!! It's so fun that you guys will be able to spend some time with each other down there! :woohoo:

I have never been here! I can't even picture where it is... :confused3 Sounds right up my ally though! :thumbsup2

Welcome to the PTR! :goodvibes

Welcome back Shawna! I've been wondering where you were. I'm glad to hear you had a nice vacation. I've always wanted to travel out west, just haven't made it there yet.

Sounds like you came home to some nasty heat!

I have to say ladies your PTR is proving to be most helpful! Every page I read I keep adding to my list of Must Do's for my next trip! Pick a Pearl, Universe of Energy (always skip that one too), and I need to make Passports now!

So glad we are being helpful to some -- we were just going for entertaining! :rotfl:

We did AK in July and wowee! That was one we were glad to start early with breakfast in the park!! The Finding Nemo show is pretty dang cool and it's AC in there!
We missed out on doing Kali RR b/c some fool jumped out of his boat on the ride and they had to close it for a while. And we were going to leave right after riding. It would have felt good in that heat!

I think FOTLK makes you want to see the Broadway show too!! I have seen it twice, once in Mpls before it went to Broadway and once touring. It's phenomenal!!!

We tend to do AK about every third trip. We don't like to ride the big ones like EE, so it's sort of like, been there done that now. This last trip we went for the first time in about 5 years. We saw the afternoon parade which we'd never seen, and the ITTBAB which the kids had not seen. We're good for a while now. It works well because we don't seem to get trips longer than 5 days very often, so I'd just as soon skip AK and have two days each at MK and Epcot along with one at DHS.

Shelly - glad you survived the field trip!!! Those bus rides are rough, aren't they? Tomorrow I'm walking with the 2nd grade to the park, but it's supposed to cool way down!

Shelly - glad you survived the field trip!!! Those bus rides are rough, aren't they? Tomorrow I'm walking with the 2nd grade to the park, but it's supposed to cool way down!

Yes they are rough. :scared1: That's the only part I dread about the field trips!!

Have fun tomorrow at the park! I hope it's cooler for you. :wizard:

Great AK update Jo! As you know I agree with you on that one -- I'm just not feelin' it when we are at AK. :confused3 It's hard to explain, but it's definitely WAY far behind the other parks for me. I don't even think we are going to do a half day there this year, maybe just a few hours.

I'll try to get my AK post up over the next few days.

I love AK, but I think the main issue with the park is the distance between attractions where there's nothing but excellent theming. (not that I mind the theming or the animals, but it's a long walk) This occurred to me when we took a 3 month old and the awesome Baby Care Center was near pretty much nothing. The couple things that are must sees for us... EE, Kilimanjaro Safaris, and FOTLK are all soo far apart. When you have a ticking time bomb in the form of a 3 month old baby, it really doesn't benefit anyone to be trekking around in search of things to do and places to sit. Also, the "spontaneous" entertainment tends to cause people to block the pathways, when you're trying to get somewhere.

I don't think we'll be spending as much time in AK as we have in the past, until our kid(s) are old enough to walk, or maybe we'll use it as our character m&g park.

Hey Shelly and Jo. As they say, better late than never. I have been so busy with no time for the dis. But I knew it had too be about time for Shellys TR. So glad I found you guys. Now to get caught up.

Good morning to all of our PTR friends! First day of summer vacation here for the kiddos and I'm blessed with a beeeyouteeeful migraine.:headache: They want to go to Target today to get a game for the Wii. I guess we will do that and have lunch out somewhere. I'm just happy I didn't have to get up at the butt crack of dawn to pack lunches. If your kids aren't out yet--- sooooooon!! It's coming, hang in there.

Yesterday MC and I went shopping- I didn't buy anything for the trip. Sad, I know.:lmao:

Shelly is working today- so there's no update to the PTR,-- but I just had to show you guys this.... it's so funny.

Anyone else see Hidden Mickey's in their real life all over the place? I'm so awful-- I mean, I see them everywhere. The kids think I've lost it.

Here's the latest--
we planted this geranium.....
plant.jpg

and I sat in a chair and looked at the plant and saw this......
hmickey.jpg

Okay so that's all you're getting by way of pics from me today. I hope it wasn't OT but it's just funny how I see Mickey everywhere I go.:upsidedow

The kids are planning on taking their Hidden Mickey guide book on the trip-- I think they like to look for them too, they just don't want to admit it.:rotfl:

Sitting here reading your AK update and having lunch. The last 3 visits to Disney we went to AK but as of now we are planning on skipping it in October. I have found it to be hot and crowded each time we were there, first time in August, next time last week in January which should have been cooler, and then in mid-march. Well, since you don't ride roller coasters, and it is hot and crowded--- maybe you won't miss it at all. :confused3 The pic I posted where it is not crowded-- that was from our October 2008 trip. I tend to think if you go to AK early in the week, maybe Monday or Tuesday if there's no morning EMH--- it isn't as bad b/c people usually leave that park as the last park to see in their order of preference. You might wake up one morning, dying to go see some gorillas.:scared1: Well, you never know????:lmao:

Are you a photographer??? Feel free to post some pretty pics for my daily picture change on my computer!:goodvibes How neat that you love to take pics-- I agree-- AK is wonderful for that if nothing else! ::yes:: I think as long as it isn't super crowded it's okay. When it is hot AND crowded--- it is miserable.
The tacky road show Dinoland reminds me of something you would have seen way back when on Route 66. (which I sooooo wish I could've done back then...) I sort of like the dumb-ness of that section.:rotfl:
I do hope we can all grow to love AK---- it sounds like just about everyone is on the same page with that park.:confused3

:lmao: I was wondering why Colorado was hotter than Texas. Sorry.:rolleyes1 I am quite a ditz at times.;)
As far as AK-- at least you can skip it and not feel bad about it. I'm more of the mind set that I HAVE to go--- I was always that child that just KNEW a parade would go by as soon as I took a nap. I'm just so dang curious and know I will miss something great if I don't cram it all in there.

I have never been in that park much past 1 pm. We always head there first thing in the morning and then leave just after lunch. I was so sorry to hear that they did away with the night time EMH b/c I would have loved to be there after dark-- just once! But yeah-- in the cooler temps, def not Aug/Sept!

The walkways are so much narrower than at the other parks, so combine the heat with being shoulder to shoulder with other sweaty bodies and that spells E--X--I--T Just be sure to go as early as possible, do as much as you can before it gets too hot, and get the heck out of Dodge!

You crazy lady walking 2 miles in the heat! What the heck??? :faint: You are brave! I can barely do a mile these days.
For the trip I plan on buying some of those mister fans and yes, absolutely some sort of bandana thingy--- I know there are some that have some sort of gel in them so they stay cool. I might have to look into that. Who needs fashion when you are melting like the wicked witch of the west????:rotfl: "I'm mellllllting. Mellllllllllting."

And you know what? this dude----> :scared: is absolutely the smilie for us this trip! Scared, sweaty and homely with melted makeup!:lmao:

Well I survived the field trip!! :faint: It was a hot one. 97 here today. Only about 9 degrees cooler than Orlando. :scared1:

Uh yes, I was *glistening* quite a bit today. :rotfl:

I just have one thing to say -- SCHOOL BUSES SHOULD BE AIR CONDITIONED!!! ::yes::

So glad we are being helpful to some -- we were just going for entertaining! :rotfl:

We are glad you survived------ glistening and all! I know how hot and humid it gets there. Nasty for sure!!! And yes, AC on buses sure would be nice!

Entertaining-----:thumbsup2 I think once everyone's done with school it will become entertaining in here.:goodvibes right now this PTR is just treading water. I'm sure it will change as we get closer and I get a little more insane-ish-er. We do have my last minute packing insanity to look forward to.

We did AK in July and wowee! That was one we were glad to start early with breakfast in the park!! The Finding Nemo show is pretty dang cool and it's AC in there!

I've never seen the afternoon parade at AK either Sheree! I forgot to put that on the list- but I'm sure we won't get to it this trip with it being a bazillion ninety eight degrees out.
I can't believe someone jumped out of the boat at KRR. he must have needed a swim.....:rolleyes1 what a ding dong.
Enjoy your walk today with the kiddos!

Good Morning All -

School being out for the summer, I remember those days well better you than me Jo. :rotfl:
A new Wii game sounds like a good plan to keep them busy for a day? :lmao:
I got woke up by our dog last night , and thunderstorm rolled through so had to share what little bed space there is with her. No headache but tired as H_ _ _ today. DH has a Dr appt. then he is going to get the oil changed in the car so I might go back to bed.

I think it is funny that you keep seeing hidden Mickeys Jo , and now that you put the idea in my head I wouldn't be surprised if they start popping up around here too:laughing:

Jo - you need to get buying for that trip, I ordered a pair of jeans and a sundress which both came yesterday, need to try them on, only problem is Dr chewed me out the other day for not sticking to my diet so I did decide to attempt to do better, afraid I might lose a few pounds and the items I bought already might end up being too big :headache:

Your plan to just do a few hours will probably be better than what I experience there!
I wish I could love the heck out of AK--- I just don't.:confused3

Can't wait for your AK post! Get to it when you can. I know you're busy.:upsidedow

Wow- I can see how taking a baby into AK wouldn't be a wonderful experience. You are brave to do it at all-- it seems like it would be tough. My kids were older by the time we took them, so they were able to see the characters and such. Your idea to use it as a character park is a good one!
Hey Shelly and Jo. As they say, better late than never. I have been so busy with no time for the dis. But I knew it had too be about time for Shellys TR. So glad I found you guys. Now to get caught up.

Hi and welcome to our PTR!!:goodvibes It's never too late to join.:thumbsup2 Hope you stay for awhile!!

Okay so I'm off to get ready for the day. I took two excedrins for the headache and had an espresso. Hopefully it will help keep it at bay until we can get some shopping done. Drew has a hollister GC and Belle has a Justice GC that are burning holes in their pockets.:lmao:

I'll be back this afternoon-- everyone have a great day!

One last post before I run---

You're right-- the Wii game will keep them busy for a day. I refuse to buy them games for it anymore--- they get GC from gparents and they have to buy them for themselves b/c they get tired of them so easily. I'm not wasting $50 that could be put towards the trip!:goodvibes

I forgot that I DID buy a couple of things for the trip yesterday but they are TinkerBell gifts for the kids. I'll post them when we do our shopping post.

I have been buying some clothes along--- I lost weight since September and had to buy some new things b/c my clothes from last summer don't fit. I'm hoping that right before we go on the trip- alot of summer items will go on sale so I can get them for cheap!

Sticking to a diet is so dang hard.:headache: I have a catalog sitting in my kitchen that I want to buy some stuff from- but I'm afraid to b/c I hate having to send things back if they don't fit.

Maybe if we order things a size smaller that we normally would it would be motivation??? Do you think that would work???

Be careful searching for HM's---- it's highly addictive! And then when you say to your SO or kids------ "there's a Hidden Mickey" you all have to stop and stare at it and talk about if it's a TRUE HM or just sort of a HM and what would make it a BETTER HM.

Yeah we're silly that way.

Hope you get a nap in--- sounds like you had a bad night.

Sorry you woke up with a migraine!:flower3: That'll mess up your plans in a hurry!! Excedrine right off the bat is about the only thing that helps me...take it and then a little bit of a nap, usually knocks it out,...but it doesn't sound like you are getting a nap in this morning!!
I did wake up with a headache the last few mornings, but once I got up and got going, they went away...definitely NOT a migraine! Hope you get better as you shop!!!

Anyone else see Hidden Mickey's in their real life all over the place?

Are you a photographer???

Um, no... not even close! :lmao: But I love to take pictures as a hobby and WDW is the perfect place to practice, I think! ;)

And yes, I see hidden Mickey's everywhere too. I totally would have seen that geranium leaf the way you did! In fact, I'll have to share a picture of my dog's belly! :rolleyes1 (yes you read that correctly) She has a spot on her stomach that looks like a Mickey head to me. DH says I'm nuts too, so don't feel bad.
