OK, my Dh and I have, shall we say, disagreed :stir: , on who should play Langdon since the movie was announced. I still see him as a Harrison Ford, suave, good-looking professor type. But I must admit to being an Indy sucker!

Another suggestion would be Johnny Depp. Or how about Pierce Brosnan?

Any thoughts?

#1) Johnny Depp all the way.....he would have been 100%, A++++++++ PERFECT and HOT! :cool1:

#2) Brad Pitt. I know it is a reach for him, but I do believe that he could have pulled off this character. Robert Langdon is supposed to be aloof & hot looking.

Micheal Richards. Come on, picture it! :rotfl2:

I guess I should obviously know, but... who is Robert Langdon???

A younger Harrison Ford ... from the first Indiana Jones movie. I guess the image of a professor/archaelogist (in the DaVinci Code sense, a symbologist) image sticks w/me.

Actors now-a-days? Tough call. You need someone older, sophisticated, suave.

Johnny Depp-- savvy!!!! While I love him, I just don't picture him as Langdon. Pierce Brosnan ... he tries too hard and I don't see it, either. Unfortunately for me, I have the whole "Harrison Ford" image going as Langdon and cannot replace it w/anyone else! Brad Pitt is too "pretty" to play Langdon.

Daxx shouted out w/Alan Rickman. I don't know, though. I think he's a bit too old.

What about Liam Neeson (ditch the Brit accent) or Colin Firth (again, nix the Brit accent)?

In all honesty, I really can't think of an actor suitable to portray Langdon!

Lead character in Da Vinci Code

Sorry, but now that they've mentioned it, Tom Hanks makes the most sense to me. Johnny Depp appears way too young. Harrison Ford is okay, but he's too rugged for the role.

So what's wrong with Tom Hanks? I think he's perfect for the role.

I LOVE JD, but not as Langdon.

Harrison Ford - too old.

I would also suggest a very young Sean Connery - but not sure who out there today I would say fits this.

Ralph Fiennes would be a good choice.

It is not that I do not like Tom Hanks, he is a great actor.

He is just not that great as a "Character Actor". Johnny Depp takes on a character and becomes it right away. He pops on the screen and you believe he is a pirate with attitude or a book dealer that is serious, "Ninth Gate".

Johnny Depp can be "the character".

I'm happy with Tom Hanks in the role, I agree Ralph Fiennes would have been a nice choice without the accent...but I have to admit I pictured my George Clooney :lovestruc while reading the book

I think Tom Hanks is a horrible choice. A indy-era Harrison Ford would be ideal but now he is too old. Brown specifically describes Langton as a "Harrison Ford type."

My choice Nic Cage

Love Tom Hanks, but he appears too long in the tooth & while engaging, just doesn't have the Langdon 'look' for me at all.

Someone on the Jeff Daniels (the filandering SIL in"Terms of Endearment") or a Bill Pullman (President in "Independence Day")--
Would Viggo Mortenson (LOTR Aragorn) or Sean Bean (LOTR Boromir) Kenneth Branagh ("Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets" Prof Lockhart)?

Jean

Gary Oldman or Scott Bakula...... :teeth:

ETA....or Jeff Bridges!

I pictured him as a younger Harrison Ford too while I read the book. Glad to know that I'm not the only one :wizard:

When I found out they were casting Tom Hanks as Langdon I couldn't believe it.

He is not what I pictured at all when reading The Da Vinci Code or Angels and Demons. Langdon is supposed to be one of those professors that his students and colleagues (sp?) would find attractive in a mature kind of way - definitely not what I see when I look at Tom Hanks (no offence to the guy, but I just do not see him in the role!).

Some of the suggestions here have been good, although I think Harrison Ford is a bit too old for the part and, while I adore him, Johnny Depp seems a bit young.

I think Audrey Tautou is perfect as Sophie Neveu though.

op's dh here. I think Hanks is a great choice. Langdon is not suppose to be an adventorous professor but a professor who ends up in an adventure. Ford has played to many adventure characters and as much as Depp is my favourite actor, I don't see him in this role.
