Who would YOU choose for Robert Langdon??

I pictured him as a younger Harrison Ford too while I read the book. Glad to know that I'm not the only one :wizard:
I thought the same thing!
Tom Hanks is a great actor, but I had hoped for some eye candy in this movie.

I think Audrey Tautou is perfect as Sophie Neveu though.
I've never heard of either, and I believe the fact that comparatively few people know them would have hurt their chances of being considered for the role.

Back to me huh...

I totally agree with Audrey Tautou (loved Amelie)
Someone mentioned Sean Bean and that would be an interesting choice too. So many to choose from, I just cant get my head around Hanks...don't know why.

Probably because he isn't the dishy proff that we all had in mind (and that Dan Brown described!) :rotfl2:

I, for one, love the casting of Tom Hanks as Langdon. He is a fantastic actor, and I think will pull it off. I remember when the first Batman movie cam out and people freaked over Michael Keaton being cast as Batman...I liked the idea then too and I still think of him as the best of the Tim Burton Batmen.

Jean Reno is PERFECT for the role of Bezu Fache, and I have to admit, he is who I pictured in that role as I read the book. Audrey Tautou is well cast also.

A younger Robert Redford would have been good or Dennis Quaid or even Geroge Clooney. I don't like Tom Hanks for the role at all.

I had in mind someone kind of nerdy good-looking, but not a swooner and definitely not Tom Hanks. Even though I love him, he's just not right for the role. In the previews I saw on Letterman, he was making these goofy faces during the car chase, and that hair is just god-awful. I think of someone like William H. Macy. I could even wrap my head around George Clooney and I love Liam Neeson maybe even Richard Gere (the way he looked in Unfaithful) even tho all of them are kinda hunky! Bottom line: someone around 50 who is good looking but more in a charming way than necessarily in a physical way. But since we weren't asked, I guess we're stuck! Hanks had the clout and I think I heard that he had something to do with the production so he was obviously going to cast himself.

I like Tom Hanks.

Second choice, Jack Black LOL! Just Kidding.

George Clooney.

I couldn't agree more about the hair :scared:

Kevin Bacon. I don't know why -- my book club "cast" this movie a long time ago and this is who I picked.

If he was a bit younger, I could imagine Kelsey Grammar playing the part.

I'd be interested to see Kevin Spacey do it as well.

Who knows though, maybe Tom Hanks will be great (but I just can't 'see' him as Langdon!!).

OMG, there are so many other actors who I could have imagined as Robert Langdon, but definitely not Tom Hanks! The more I think about it, the crazier it seems...

I agree with you 1,000%! :thumbsup2 And I think Michael Keaton was perfect as Batman, and maybe could have been Langdon, if he lost some weight, and colored his grey hair. ;)

Saw preview tonight, just NOT the Robert Langdon I had imagined.Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner, Denzel. Someone with more rugged looks and handsome. Hanks is turning into a jowly little boy. He's not getting suave or sophisticated as he ages. Even Dennis Quaid would have been better, not much but some.

My DH and I thought the same thing - we both love Tom Hanks - he just wasn't who I would have pictured when reading the book.

I am not sure who - I agree with the OP's DH - Robert was not suppossed to be an adventurous type so Harrison Ford would be out.

I also think it should have been someone a tad bit younger than Hanks.

????? - That is a tough one.

REGARDLESS - I can't wait to see it!

Langdon is only 40 in the book so he wouldn't need grey hair. I have been trying to picture who would be good. I love Tom Hanks but not who I would have picked although, his roll in Apollo 13 could be somewhat compared to this roll and that was good.

About Langdon being only 40 -- given how renowned he is, I found that rather unbelieveable in the books. Perhaps another advantage of having Tom Hanks play Langdon is that the deference shown to Langdon throughout the books will make more sense in the context of an older man.

Bicker did you watch SNL? Tom Hanks hosted and he was a great sport and ripped him one, during his opening bit.

I about fell over when one of the cast stands up and asked what was with his HAIR!!!!:lmao:
Lots of other great stuff there.

Why? I know plenty of people that are around 40, give or take 5 years, that are nationally or internationally known for their respective careers, especially in small circles like in the book. My BIL is 44 and is considered the international expert in renewable architecture. There are plenty of doctors, scientists, etc that are around that age that are considered experts in their field and people will travel the world to see them at places like the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, etc.
