Anyone else get annoyed when they come zipping by at 80mph?

I've always been kind of surprised that they allowed them during the busy times. On the "real" boardwalks the bikes can only be ridden in the early morning hours.

I live on the Atlantic, and our town BW only allows them in the mornings. They can kill someone on those things if they allowed them at peak times

I hate them too. You are walking along and all the sudden you hear those bells behind you. Why should I have to keep moving out of the way? As an insurance underwriter, they make me cringe. An accident waiting to happen.

In Cape May, they're all around the town, on the streets. They're not doing 80, more like 3 MPH, I've been behind them too many times in my car. But on the boardwalk, I think they should be restricted to certain times, I'm surprised they're not.

I have no problem with the bikes but do have problems with rude drivers.

Where can you really ride them anyway? It's not like people are going to ride over to BCV, park, and have lunch.

In all the years we've stayed at Boardwalk and Beach Club, I have never seen any of the surreys hit anyone. I'm somewhat surprised.

I do enjoy watching the riders trying to pull the bridge over the canal by the entrance to WS. Always fun to hear them crying...

I jog around Crescent Lake and often hear the riders saying "bye" (or other things, but always nice, joking things) to me as they pass me going down the hill from the bridge (by the intersection of the BC, BW and way to EPCOT) to the BC area. I love it when I run by those same people trying to get up the hill past the YC after peddling 3/4 of the way around and they are out of breath. I love offering them a push up the hill.;)

I really thought that after the first month or so, they'd be restricting them due to the lawsuits! LOL -- sortof.  Especially after dark with the crowds it can get a little hairy. I'm actually surprised that rude bike groups haven't gotten into fistfights with annoyed pedestrians, especially in cases of near misses of women, children or the elderly.

They scare me at night!!! When we see one coming we grab our kids....................takes the fun away from just strolling on the boardwalk............you always have to be looking over your shoulder!!

But we do love watching them try to get up the hill!! LOL!!!

Does anyone know how many of them they keep in inventory to rent out at any one time? I would imagine that they have to maintain some kind of control over the quantity for safety reasons, otherwise they'd be an even greater safety risk than they are. I agree that limiting their use to daylight hours would be a good idea too since visibility is much better during the day.

I agree totally. It's not the bikes, rather the people in them. For some reason they think that anyone walking on the boardwalk has to get out of their way just because they're ringing that anoying bell!!

Look, I have no problem with the bikes being rented. I've actually rented one myself, and I was one of those people huffing and puffing up that bloody hill :teeth: .

However, we rented the bike during the day when the boardwalk was not crowded. I didn't want people seeing us walking that thing up that hill!! :rotfl:

I like them. They are easily avoidable and add a festive feel to the Boardwalk.

I think they are annoying when my FIL is in control. Took a 4 seater out for a run and put him and MIL in the front. What a mistake! I thought he was going to run over people. Needless to say we won't be doing that again!

I'm annoyed by them. I don't find it funny that riders get some joy out of ringing the bell and watching other Guests scatter for safety. Limited hours for rentals would be nice.
