Who is leaving for Copenhagen soon? I want to hear all about it...

I'm off to Copenhagen in a week and a half for the Northern Europe cruise. I've lurked on the disboards forever and love reading the reports and looking at the food so going to try and write a report.
Looking forward to reading one from you! We're doing the 2018 Northern European cruise, and hoping to spend a few days in Copenhagen before it.

And Enjoy your cruise!

Excited to see you BOTH onboard - hard to believe it is two weeks away. We plan to write up a comprehensive trip report upon return for the 2018 folks since there wasn't too much for us to read from 2016...stay tuned!!
Hi there, we're doing the June 11th Northern European cruise. Please, please, work on your trip report as soon as you get back. Would love to see the Navigators. Happy sailing to you!!!

We overnighted in Copenhagen 2 years ago post the transatlantic cruise and before our Baltic cruise. I highly HIGHLY recommend getting and taking full advantage of the Copenhagen Card. it's great for transportation and museum admissions as well as tour boat ride. Leaving for Copenhagen on May 31st to board the Magic on June 4th.

We spent 3 days in Copenhagen last year prior to taking the Disney 7-day Norway Fjords cruise and 1 day on return. We loved it so much that we are returning this June and spending 3 more days there before embarking on the 7-day Northern European cruise. We are flying Icelandic Air this year so we can stop off in Iceland on our way home. They are not only cheaper than SAS but they let you stop over for 1 - 7 days in Reykjavik either on your way to Europe or on your way back home.

Concerning the lovely city of Copenhagen, the first thing we did was buy a 72-hr. Trans Card (400 DK). It enabled us to take the Metro from the lower floor of the airport terminal to within 3 blocks of our wonderful hotel called the Avenue Hotel. They serve a great breakfast if it's included in the price of your room. We then used the Metro and an occasional bus to get around town. First we went to Nyhavn that evening, which is awesome for taking pictures especially near sunset. From there we walked to the Rosenberg Castle but it closes at 4 PM so we are planning on touring it this year. The next morning we took the Canal Tour. We pre-purchased the tickets on-line from Viator, which included free entry to Tivoli Gardens and its small aquarium. After the canal tour we walked to the Amalienborg Palace and to the nearby, beautiful Marble Church. Missed the changing of the Guard but will catch it this year. After coffee and pastries we strolled down the mile long Stroget -- stopping at the Disney Store for a great Mickey Copenhagen T-shirt (195 DK), and eventually purchased delicious chocolates at the Chocolate Hotel. We also found good pizza and beer for a late dinner (255 DK). The following morning we caught the 3A bus a block from our hotel, which dropped us off about 4 blocks from the Carlsberg Brewery. The Elephant Way is not to be missed! We didn't do the brewery tour but we did try a couple of beers in the beer garden and purchased six different beers for 110 DK to take aboard the Magic. We then went back to Nyhavn and walked to Tivoli Gardens. It is a great place with many options for eating. But we opted for burgers and fries at Hard Rock for 315 DK just off of the City Hall square. Embarkation day we were able to combine the 3A bus/taxi to get to the port for noon boarding.

The cruise, which was our third one with Disney (Bahamas and Panama Canal previously) is wonderful. Highlights on the Magic for us are the evening shows especially Tangled, watching several current movies, and winding down in the Irish Pub. The only Disney excursion we took was the Views of Norway excursion (bus to the top of Mt. Delsnibba) out of Geiranger. It's well worthwhile for the views and only cost about $178 for the two of us. It also gives you plenty of time to shop in Geiranger and do the fantastic waterfall walk. Also the line to get into the chocolate shop was shorter later in the day. The other natural highlights include of course the cruise through the narrow Geiranger Fjord and some spectacular North Sea sunsets. In the other 3 ports, we did our own thing. Basically we explored them on foot, stopped for coffee etc. My only complaint about the cruise is if you take an excursion at the other 3 ports, you are left little to no time to explore the port. All 3 of them are very interesting and easy to do on foot. We did take the Hop On/Hop Off Bus (520 NK) in Alesund to get up to the restaurant/lookout above the city.

I have a power-point show that I presented for an adult entertainment night at our library. I should do a complete trip report but I'm not sure how to do one and add all of the pictures I have. We'll see.

PS I'm a very experienced mountain climber and would have loved to do the Pulpit Rock hike, but it was raining that day. One participant on our cruise broke his leg on the hike. Warning the rock steps are very slippery when wet especially when descending!

Thanks for your post! We leave for Copenhagen next week. I would love to see the Elephant Gate, but wasn't interested in taking the tour (at least the 4 other members of my family aren't interested.) Based on your post, you can see it w/o taking the tour.

Have a wonderful time! You can walk up to and through the Elephant Way. The Brewery Store has lots of canned beers for sale and souvenirs including shirts etc. There also is a bus in a small adjacent parking lot you can catch to take you back to the downtown visitor center near the main train station. You can also take this bus directly to the brewery from the visitor center.
