Who is financially responsible? Class Parties?

Unfortunately, if you volunteer to be RP, you need to be prepared to cover "extra" and last minute expenses.

How about if you're volunteered for that position? I didn't come forward to volunteer for it, and really didn't want it. I've always been happy just being an active parent, but not the leader by any means. I like baking cookies and sending in whatever is asked of me, but don't like shelling out my own hard earned money when I only work part time as it is.

We're doing just fine financially, so we didn't mind. I do think that a person on a super tight budget should not be room parent because extra expenses have a way of creeping in.

Well, we're doing okay financially too. But still I don't think that is a reason to take advantage of the situation. I think that 1.00 isn't too much to ask of any parent, they could roll pennies to come up with that. I am out 16.00 because people were too busy or too uncaring to send in a buck for the child to have some pizza.

I would have been happy with the cookies and drinks....etc Oh well, chalk it up as a loss. I've made it this far without being room mom and in just a few more years she'll be out of the grades that have parties at all....

How do you turn down a teacher that just asked you to send out a letter for her, and then it turns in to sending out the next one.....etc? Maybe I should have told her that I'd send out the letter under the agreement that I was not the room mother so it was understood and not just implied. Live and learn

I know what you are saying, you want to help out, but you don't want all the responsibility on you. I don't have a solution, but know that other parent volunteers feel the same as you do.

One of my friends volunteered to be room parent for her son's 4th grade class. The teacher had very detailed plans for the parties; games, prizes, supplies, food and drinks. My friend called and sent reminder notes to every parent on her list of parents that agreed to donate items, only 4 responded and donated. Our school is in a well to do area, no poor people here. My friend ended up paying over $40 to cover one party.

Again, when the kids come home saying they had a class party, don't the parents wonder who paid for it?

If you do something once it's a favor.... if you do something twice it's your job.
