Who is destashing in 2010?

Not a lot but I did just throw out quite a few travel brochures, attraction brochures what ever you would like to call them. May do some shredding tomorrow. I do it and it builds back up

I need to get past the thought of "well, maybe this will sell" and just get rid of stuff. I have a few things on CL with no responses. I refuse to do another yard sale so maybe I will just load up stuff today & remove it before I change my mind again.

Love everyone's posts but especially this post, thank you! I give quite a bit to Goodwill but have saved stuff for a garage sale. Not sure when I can do one, and really don't want to do one! So out it goes tomorrow to Goodwil!

Where's the best place to donate women's business suits that are fairly new and still in very good shape? Several are pin-stripe, many are just nice colors, some trendy, some really feminine but still business. My current job is all business casual, as are many, so would anyone even want them?

There used to be an organization for upcoming professionals with little money, anyone remember what it is?

I don't know the name, but I just heard on the news the other day that Walmart either runs it, or is the major sponsor of the program. Perhaps that bit of info would help you find it in a search. Good luck. That's a great thing for you to do. The women would be very grateful, I'm sure.

Today after we loaded DS backpack. I destashed the area were we keep school supplies, and then I stayed with it. I did my closet (this month at work we now have to wear matching uniforms so all my old ones are in a container in the basement). Took out old clothes, some for goodwill, some for GOOD BYE. Did the laundry room and the pantry, and kids cabinet and my dresser and more. Recycled all the paper stuff on the way to soccer. Took out 3 45 gallon trashbags of paper/cardboard/trash stuff. Gave some stuff to DD's friend. Yippeeeee Shared with DS he get to pick up his room this weekend . Thanks for this thread and the other threads that encourage us to do with less and enjoy each other more.

Thank YOU for the reply! I collected some of the piles together but did not make it to Goodwill that day so the stuff is more organized but still in my garage. I had briefly thought, maybe I should try a sale but there are really no big "draws". You have inspired me to load it up tomorrow & just be done with it. It slightly stresses me out to keep seeing it & knowing I should either try harder to sell or just get it out. Get it out wins.

Have you taken your suits yet? I bet they will be thrilled w/your donations! Let us know how it went. It is always inspiring to read about the people & places that benefit from the donations.

I've been to Goodwill every single day this week. I pack up the back of our van until it's full and then start again the next day. I've gotten rid of so much stuff this year, and I still feel like our house is cluttered. We moved into our house with 1 kid and we have 4 now. I've gotten rid of a ton of outgrown clothes that can't be passed down. I'm okay with most of it, but some of the really sweet things make me sad. I try to remind myself that it's just stuff. It's just stuff. It would probably be a little easier if Goodwill gave you a wad of cash instead of having to wait until you do your taxes. :lmao: My husband isn't good at telling me exactly how much of a credit we get though.

I haven't read through this whole thread, but how do any of you decide how to get rid of toys? I've given tons of stuff away, but my kids have a lot of toys and there's always toys coming in at birthdays and Christmas x4! MIL almost always sends stuff home with the kids. Grrr.... some of it just goes right to Goodwill. I kind of wish that family would just give money to the kids and we could set up a bank account for them. I think she buys a lot of clearance junk though, so it wouldn't amount to much.

Last weekend I did do most of the shredding I wanted to and ended up with a little over a trash bag full.
Came across 3 bottles of nail polish I did not care for and a toe ring. Took them to work and passed them on to a friend that kept the toe ring and passed the polish onto her daughter. Some of the more adverterous ladies tried the polish in various designs. The men thought they were nuts but we had a grand time!!
Also tossed some lotions and maps.

Wonder what I will destash this weekend? What are you planning on tackling? :surfweb:

I've been doing this a little at a time this year. Every time I fill one box I take it to a resale shop who buys and repairs wheelchairs and donates them to those in need. I try to clean out stuff a little bit at a time: one drawer, shelf, box at a time. I've finsished my jewelry box, closet, dresser, bathrooms and kitchen. Currently I'm working on the basement by going thru old letters and cards I've saved for 30 years! I grab a handful of stuff and bring it upstairs to go thru it. It has helped alot.

As far as my kids stuff goes: I buy it from them and then donate it. I pay them garage sales prices and they get the money to go towards vacation spending. It's amazing what they'll part with when $$$ is involved!

Sounds like fun for all!

I am back because DS is home sick again and my connection to work is down for the weekend. I'm taking this as a sign to get my butt in gear & make some serious progress on the house!

Today, so far, I purged a bunch of old magazines from my stash. I have a basket where they live on the fireplace, when it gets overflowing, I recycle ones I don't want to flip through again.

I decided to take down all my pic frames on the bookshelves & spray paint them black. Already had the paint & want to make a more cohesive arrangement. HGTV has been playing today. Not totally decluttering but making spaces more inviting too. Got rid of a small stack of books I won't read again.

Pantry was purged & I got rid of some old stuff & moved the snacks to a lower cabinet that easier reach for the kids. Now I have an upper all cleared off for our next Costco run.

I'm off to try on some clothes, if they don't fit, they will be donated. Garage pile is ready to go but I hope to increase it by looking around some more.

Who else??? Let's go so when it starts getting cold out, we will have nice, warm, cozy & inviting homes to curl up & hibernate!

I have so much going on right now. Pregnancy complications that are forcing me to rest more than before, so I am getting less done. Only 12 1/2 weeks before the little one arrives, so I need to get stuff done ASAP!!!

I worked on the baby's room earlier this week, for a short time, and found some great items I had forgotten I had stashed away as Christmas gifts. So, in cleaning, I have done some "free" Christmas shopping! I was excited! I also found a puzzle that I have no idea why we bought it. Don't have anyone on my gift list that I think would like it, so I listed it for sale on Amazon. That was just a few days ago. It sold today. Wow! That was fast. I don't mind about the fees, actually, because the selling price was $4 more than I paid for it. As I sell items on Amazon or E-bay, I transfer the money to my Paypal account and buy a gift card from Disney online.

Also, I am thrilled with the sale, because on Monday morning when the discount info came out, I called and booked our trip for next September!!! Need to start saving extra $$$. I'm so excited!!! Will continue to clean/organize/destash and hopefully sell. Hoping to have another garage sale in about a month. Whatever doesn't sell will be taken to Goodwill!

Let's get a lot done this weekend! Hoping to post a big accomplishment myself. It feels so good!!!

DH started watching an episode of Hoarders that we had tivo'd, and by the end we cleaned off all the bookcases in the living room that have been collecting 'stuff' and had a bag for Goodwill and a bag of trash. :thumbsup2 I also went through DD's room and found another bag of misc. papers/dollar store prizes from the treat box from school/random junk to toss. Funny, I know we have less stuff than we did a year ago, but it still seems like we have so far to go.

My destashig is going really well.

We had the 2 back to back yardsales over 2 weekends and made over 7,000! It was a crazy amount of work.

That money really gave us a nice start at the new house. We paid off a big bill and had a little extra for some new patio furniture and a new kitchen set (sold the old patio furniture on Craigslist and the kitchen set at the yard sale).

We moved into the much small house and I LOVE it. I love that there are no stairs involved and I love that everything is so compact. I thought that the tiny kitchen would be difficult but having everything within a few steps makes it so easy.

I do have 5 large boxes of kitchen gadgets in the garage and so far I haven't needed them.

I have purged about half of my stuff with still more to go.

Today I did 2 boxes and a drawer. Went through them and most of it went into the trash. It was a lot of Junk I didn't need!

Today I decided to clean out my dresser.
I have a big bag full of mismatched pajamas. Some tops with no bottoms, some bottoms with no tops. So I offered them on Freecycle. I hope they go by Tuesday.

I am cleaning out another drawer today. It's the drawer in my offee table and has become filled with all kinds of junk. All I want in it is reading glasses, tape, a notebook, pen, scissors and a nail file.

Well decluttering has finally pretty much stalled here at home. Why you may ask? well, We spent 2 of the last 3 weeks at WDW:cool1: adn now I go back to work today.

Things I have gotten rid of in the last week include:

3 books that were sold on half.com for a combined 30.00:goodvibes more money for WDW 2011:thumbsup2

got rid of a nother 5 books that I have read from just prior to vacation until last night.

I really seems the more I get rid of, the more I find that I have to deal with!!!

I've noticed the interesting thing lately re: destashing.

I haven't set foot in a craft or sewing store in probably 18 months. Even so, every time I have a project I want to do or a little gift to make or whatever, I find I have what I need already on hand. How weird is that? Whether it's ribbon or D-rings or fusible webbing or whatever, I've already go it. Weird and a little sad, if you ask me.

We're planning my son's birthday party and I was thinking about what to do for invites and figured I'd have to go purchase something. Well, sure enough, I come across a pack of plain postcards that will do the job nicely with a little embellishment.

I wonder how long I can go on like this? How much did I really buy???

OK - I'm going to try to do some stuff today. I've gotten rid of some little things on Freecycle (DS's old band gloves and someone is picking up 3 cans of shoe polish today). I need to list DS's old dresser on Craigslist so I can start ripping up the carpeting. I'm really trying to talk him into getting rid of a lot more DVD's.

I put up new container store shelves in the basement over the weekend and yesterday emptied off the old shelving unit and got rid of a lot of garbage that was on it.

Today I donated a very large bag of shoes and a few shirts.

It felt good to reclaim some space.

I found some more things to donate. I plan to get back into the groove now that Summer is over.
