Who is destashing in 2010?

i have never posted here but i need advice. i have been decluttering for several weeks and doing fairly good. my problem is holiday decorations, i have so much but can not decide what to down size on. everything seems special or cute or reminds me of my kids when they were little. i really need advice on how to get over this. i have been going through my closet and have about 3 large black garbage bags for goodwill. also, do most of you get rid of the previous seasons clothes and rebuy next season or keep the clothes and pack them away. i feel so overwhelmed with having so much stuff. any advice is appreciated thanks

1.the 'stuff' is not your memories. If it helps, try taking pics of some of it.

2. Agree with PP. If it's in good shape, fits, and I like it, it stays.

Knock Knock...Where is everyone? Is everyone on spring break this week?

I'll admit, I've been slacking. I shopped today, but I only came home with 4 things...Still, time to do some purging!

I'm here. What a day. Cleaning and de-stashing. I have a bunch of stuff to donate and a ton of stuff for consignment (I have more to look through). It feels good to make some progress.

I've been reading Fly Lady's book, Sink Reflections. It's good! I want to get the routines done pat. The kids are going to be getting out of school soon and I want to maintain the progress I've made, and still forge ahead. Hopefully, I can get the morning and evening routines down so maintenance cleaning/destashing won't take quite so long.

Ok, we are back from our spring break vacay and started tearing apart the master closet last night. I have 4 large 30 gal trash bags full. 2 pieces of luggage we no longer use and a safety bed rail to go to goodwill Monday.

Monday I need to empty out the craft closet :scared1: It really is that bad!!!
We got the toy closet before we left. Yes, we have a toy closet. It was originally scoped out to be upstairs laundry but I opted to keep my laundry in the downstairs pantry area off the garage. Anyways its the size of a walk in closet and Dh lined the back wall with shelves and we have a small bookcase and a cubical organizer in there. This way the bedrooms, living room and kids game room dont get over run with toys as those spaces are want to! Blech! Our youngest DD still has most of her toys in her room but she is 4 and has a very small asortment of girl type toys. Mostly she plays whatever the boys play with :laughing:I was the same way as a child!

Wish me luck for Monday!:woohoo:

Happy Easter Sunday fellow destashers!

I admit, I have lost my steam. :confused3

I have a lot more that I want to get rid of and have been trying to do a bit each day. Tonight is empty box night! Do I NEED to keep the empty box for the camera I bought TWO YEARS AGO??? :scared1::confused: no, I didnt think I did !:rotfl:

Monday is here and we have the back of our mini van full of goodwill give aways. The craft closet is still waiting to be attacked but like life is want to, the day did not go as planned. Our oldest DS had an appt to have a mole removed and our oldest DD had a sudden attack of tummy yucks that seemed to start when she realised her homework was not completed:confused3 So, I sent her back to bed at 6am so that I could juggle the other three kids and the appointment. When I got back from the appointment I took her onto school to walk the walk of shame to the attendence supervisor to explain why she was tardy the first day back from spring break :thumbsup2 Im a mean mom today!
That set me back another hour and a half. It was 10am before I even got my focus back on the house and sadly regular duties kept me hopping until 4pm.

Life is Good :cool1:

I just took an entire car load to a local children's charity that I found through Disney's Give a Day. They take almost all of your gently used kids items--good bye stuff, hello space! I think I have my house nearly at a point where we use/need almost everything in it, and I have a good amount of empty closet/cabinet space. I have also joined the no-buy month and have cut down on my spending. I'm enjoying the freedom from the endless cycle of stuff.

I got rid of my empty boxes about 6 months ago. I had saved so many when I moved, but they are essentially paper and can easily be replaced if you ever move. Good luck!

I was able to rid the house of 2 grocery shopping bags of paper. Mostly receipts from our last WDW trip.pirate:
Oh and 3 slips, yea, the ones you wear under a dress/skirt, does anyone wear those now?:confused3

Don't feel like there is a whole lot more I can get rid of at this point.
I have Fridays off now when everyone else is working or at school....;)

Yesterday I was a good destashing girl and posted some things on Craigslist! I posted:

DD's crib- someone emailed me last night (and grandma also emailed me) and is very anxious for it. Keep your fingers crossed... it is $150 for our vacation acct! :yay:
21" TV- already gone! Only $15, but it is out of my house and not in a landfill!
Graco Travel Lite Crib
2 Boppy Pillows
Fisher Price Bouncy Seat

Today I am going to post more of DD's brand name clothing. Last time I posted her old Hanna Andersson clothing I made a killing!!

Also a wonderful thing, DH ordered a shed with our tax refund. Now I will have the snowblower, lawn chemicals, baby pool, etc out of my garage! Next project is put in an attic floor so we can store seasonal items like Christmas and Halloween. I know DH won't let this become a catch-all area for other junk, he can't stand clutter!

THanks for recommendation! Just ordered Sink Reflections from the library!

You're welcome! That's where I got my copy too. :)

I need to purge some books too. I have many books that I have read once and have no intentions of reading again. I do have special books that I'd never part with, but the ones that aren't far outweigh those.

I finally went through my underwear drawer last night. I got a few new pairs (freebies from VS :thumbsup2 ) and told myself I was not putting those new undies in the drawer until I went through everything in there and threw some away. I ended up throwing away about 20 pairs of underwear that had either seen better days or I just never wore.

Next up is the sock drawer. I'm sure there are several single socks in there that I kept "just in case" the mate ever turned up. You know that never happens! I also have a bad habit of not tossing socks that have holes in them. From now on, holey socks go right in the garbage when they come off my feet!

You all are doing so well - it inspires me to keep going with my decluttering, too. This morning I went through more of the kids' clothes and I have 5 bags ready to go for charity pickup on Thursday. I packed up 1 suitcase of clothes for my DSis and DNieces (flying Southwest, so it won't cost me to ship them) for our trip in a couple of weeks. DH got the suitcases out of the crawl space last night, and when I opened up one of them, it was full of clothes from a trip last year!! Fortunately, I wash everything before we come home from vacation, so I know it was clean, but sheesh! I wondered where some of those things had gotten to! How it got put away with stuff still in it, I will never know. That's bad!

We donate a lot of books to the local library for their annual book sale, but if you have ones all by the same author or theme, try to sell them as a group. Last year when the Shopaholic movie was out I listed the entire series of Shopaholic books. I think I got about $25 for them, mostly paperback! I am never going to read them again but if I am really in the mood I can get them from the library!

OK, I'm in! I've been dancing around this thread for a while, but I decided to open it and browse. I cleaned out my kitchen cabinets and pantry last week. Got rid of a tote full and found lots of food to donate that is still good but we won't ever eat (canned spinach? How did that get in here?).

We're having a yard sale soon, so I need to keep going!!

I brought 20 paper bags full of books to Half Price Books this weekend - I only made $70, but as I told my DH, it's $70 I didn't have before, and an ENORMOUS weight off my mind to have them out of the house.

Now, what to do with the other 100 or so bags . . . :confused3?

KC:hippie:

Oh sign me up! I hope it's not too late ;)
I just spent 6 hours on Saturday "cleaning" my 8 year old sons room. I now have 3 huge bags and bins full of clothes/toys/books to give his little cousin :thumbsup2
His room looks fantastic and I want the rest of the house to be de-cluttered too!
I told my husband my goal would be to do 1 room per weekend. He just laughed at me

Bring them to Half Price books and get $350! :rotfl:

Hey if your hubby isn't happy with the $70 tell him he can send me a check ! :rotfl2:

My credit union is having free community shred days coming up so I think DH and I need to tackle some of the stuff we intend to scan and shred! DH bought a scanner with a feeder tray just for this purpose and hasn't set it up yet. The one closest to me is the 24th and we have A LOT to do so I am going to ask him to set it up when he gets home tonight.
