Who is destashing in 2010?

Remember keep going over the hot spots

sometimes if not sure if you want to or can part with some stuff put it box lable to go thru it say in 6 months or a year if you not missed or needed the stuff yet it usually safe to toss unless it includes things like the snow boots you only need every 5 yrs or the tools you only need every 3 yrs an cost much more to buy than to store....

Oh and there is always taking pictures of kids school papers aunt martha's quilt etc saving pic but not box after box of kids school papers.

ok, heres a cluttered question!

Do I destash as I'm packing up the house to move? Or do I pack everything & toss stuff as I unpack in the new place? I *want* to do it as I pack, but I'm so scared I will throw out stuff I actually need. Lets hear the opinions my Disfriends! :surfweb:

Thats a good question period! I am so mad at myself!
While decluttering, I stuck a coupon in my purse and let it expire!
It *usually* would have been out on my counter to *remind* me to use it but in the destashing - decluttering mode, I put it where I forgot it.
The coupon was $10 off a $10 purchase at JCP.

(can you tell I'm not too happy with myself? :headache:)

I did the SAME thing!!!! ok, ok, so it was CVS extra bucks, but it was still 5 bucks off :headache:

Awe, sorry to hear that :( It sucks, doesn't it? I'm probably way too hard on myself but when that happens, I'm mad forever!! I mean, $10 bucks !! Hey, even $5 bucks, arghhhh Although CVS will sometimes take expired ECBs if it hasn't been too long!

Destash before the move! Then you don't have to pack it or move it- or pay someone else to move it!

Took the stuff to goodwill and also convinced myself it was ok to give away magazines I had not read!

DH is working long days this week so hopefully I will get some stuff done!

I am de-stashing too! We just moved and I am throwing/giving away as I unpack. Where does all of this crap come from? I swear I only bought some of it, the rest cloned itself or something.

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I could try to use that excuse too, but unfortunately I do not live by the rule, "bring something into the house, remove something from the house........"

I did go through quite a few cupboards and the pantry yesterday, it feels nice to have the clutter gone. I even stopped at Goodwill this morning on my way to work to drop off three very large bags.:cool1:

Im so glad i am still getting the notice from this thread. Ok so i am trying to get back on track. I went through piles of paperwork today and made dental appointments for the whole family since i found the new insurance information. First time we ever had dental so thrilled with that.

I see you mentioned about destashing before a move. VERY SMART. About 8 years ago we moved to smaller house and had a garage sale week after we moved in. The neighbors really thought we were nuts but we didnt find the time before.

I brought a box of maternity clothes to a drive for a local women's shelter. I also found a local charity that needs gently used baby items--signed up to do a drive for them through the Disney Give a Day for April. Will start collecting things from my home and from friends.

Also, got rid of 3 expired car seats through Babies R Us collection and gave the coupons away to people buying new equipment in the store.

My house isn't too bad; just trying to reclaim some space so we don't get too crowded. My parents are hoarders to some extent, so I'm always shedding stuff. My problem is not bringing new stuff in--especially with kids. They always beg for stuff and I cave too often. New solution: do not go into stores with the kids.

QVC shopper- If they have their own money, and have to spend IT, they suddenly want less in stores. "I want this!" "Did you bring your money?" ...silence.

I destashed a desk today. Neighbor left it on the curb with a free sign and of course I think I need anything that is free! Gave it to a co-worker.She's going to paint it for her daughter who is 4.

Hoping to get through some stacks of paper that I had banished to the basement while watching NCIS tonight!

I sold another 48 comic this evening!!:cool1:

That was almost half of a box, another few orders like that I will start seeing some much needed room!!

It feels so good to make some room and some monet at the same time:banana:

True, but they are 5 and almost 4, and I don't want to get into the allowance thing yet. My friend did that with her 5 year old--she gives her $5 a week; when the girl gets $10 they go and get a new toy. Sounds like a bad cycle to me.

Anyway, I do say no very often, but my five year old said "You NEVER get me anything" upon returning from a 11 night trip to Disney World, and so now I'm destashing/doing a no buy month to see if I can change all of our behaviors...

I made $30 on some clothes I took to consignment. Hope to make more. I *did* buy some items, but my goal is to sell more than I buy. :)

I donated some clothing items today. It's been slow going. I'm sick and out of the groove. I made myself go today. I need to get back on track.

Took the 87 pounds of cans that had accumulated in our garage to be recycled. $47.75. Yay!

added 2 pair of socks to the "go" bag (they never fit right, why do I hang onto stuff that doesn't fit right? :confused3)
Anyway, also added a pair of pants - no clothes have come in, but I'm moving more & more out!

Going to destash the kitchen this weekend. Why I think I need silverware for 17 people I'll never know - I've NEVER fed that many people at once! LOL :cutie:

thanks for all the posts - you all have helped me keep going!

I need to destash my closets. We're hoping to move in a year's time so anything that I don't need is going to Goodwill!!

After 10+ years in one place then once you move you realize how much stuff you have that you don't use or need. So, I am destashing by way of Craigslist. I've gotten rid of furniture, clothing and many many kitchen items. It's a great feeling every time I get rid of a bunch of stuff. And it makes me think twice even three times before buying anything! :upsidedow
