Who is destashing in 2010?

I've been married for almost 2 years now... I've kept all my bridal shower/wedding cards in a box, I felt bad throwing them out but I just don't know what to do with them... ?

I am having such a hard time getting rid of Disney stuff! Such as reciepts from suvies from our trip in 2004!, maps of the parks; we have been 6 times  I think we know our way around LOL... So please send me some pixie dust to be able to get rid of all the "paper" from Disney:hippie:

Thats me lately! Too much paper! Too many cool memories! Too much nostalgia from it! But way too much clutter from it! How to decide? Too confused so I organize it and keep too much of it, ack! Please send some throw-away-destash pixie dust to me too!

Some paper stuff, I just take a picture of it and toss it. I'm really bad with sentimental stuff but if I can keep it in some way, like a picture I'm okay.

I don't know why I didn't think of taking pictures of clothes, toddler toys, and things too. But I'm doing that now too. :upsidedow

Getting rid of sentimental paper is the hardest thing! I have the same issues. This helps me: remember that the paper is actually just your link to the memory. If you have lots of paper that points to the same memory, you should be able to trim down the paper collection to the "best" one. It's likely that you have photos that point to the same memory. So, if you have a lot of Disney paper, AND Disney photos, then just lose all the paper. The photos will keep the memory alive.

In the ideal world, we all would have the time to actually journal the memory. Then the memory is easily shared across distance in time and miles...

I'm so glad you guys are here! I had gotten a little off track. I was even (horrors!) looking at clothes online when I DON'T NEED THEM.

DH and I have some things to do out of the house this afternoon, but when we get home we've resolved to attack a closet.

Seriously, y'all keep me going. I'm inspired by even the smallest projects that each of you complete. I do find it interesting how the more I get rid of, the less I want to buy. Hopefully this will result in helping me with my CC debt and then saving for another Disney trip! :cool1:

Does raking 1/2 the front yard and bagging the leaves into 20 full lawn bags count as destashing?

Thanks! Lots to do inside the house, but it is beautiful here today, so I decided to take advantage of the weather. Whew!

I don't get rid of these things. I just put everything from one trip into a photo box and keep the photo boxes on a shelf. The kids like to look at stuff from other trips so I keep most of it. If it doesn't fit in the box we try to make it fit (like the epcot masks lose their sticks to fit) or else it can't stay.

I don't keep all the little receipts though. That's just clutter. ;)

the only thing I've gotten done, other than homework/studying, is I found a home for the baby hangers. Not sure if I already mentioned that though. They are in the box and ready to get mailed out.

I also went through all the boys' clothes and hung up all the shirts, culled out the ones to save, the ones to trash, the few to sell and the remaining to send to my friend for her son. I did this with the pjs too (just trash or send) and I've started setting aside the pants as my younger DS outgrows them.

This allowed me to see that the boys need NOTHING!!!! for this summer, younger DS needs nothing for the fall/winter either. Older DS will just need 5 plain khaki pants for school and a couple pairs of khaki shorts for school but that won't be until Aug, so I'll start watching for sales starting now.

It doesn't really feel like I did a lot in their room but their closet looks so much better and it took me hours to get through it all. That's horrible, yk? That it took me hours to go through 2 small boys wardrobes. How many clothes do two boys need???

Eh, I haven't gotten much accomplished lately. I was admitted to the hospital on Thursday and got out last night, so I'm still feeling pretty icky. I spent most of the day lying down.

I did manage to get a big shoebox of old bank statements and canceled checks shredded today though. It was kind of interesting looking at the old checks and how much cheaper things were in the mid to late 90's. I also did a quick sort through a plastic storage bin and threw out about 40 magazines. I've recently realized that I never read magazines unless I put them in the bathroom. So, I bought a small magazine rack to put in the 1/2 bath downstairs. We call it our Family Library, lol. :rotfl2:

DH finished painting the future nursery today. He also put the crib together, which turned out to be a 5 hour job. :sad2: His job tomorrow is to put the changing table together...hopefully that goes easier.

I hope everything is ok and that you are feeling better!

OT:
Delmar411- I was at the Lands' End in Castleton yesterday and the fall/winter stuff was 60-70% off. I remember thinking that something looked like it was a shirt for a kid's school uniform but I was not looking at kids' pants at all so I do not know if maybe they had some cheap khakis? :confused3 Maybe if you call they will tell you on the phone. Mega construction going on in there- the signs said 'coming soon Lands' End Canvas.' I was aware of the new brand but didn't know it was coming to stores.

Sherry, I hope you are feeling better too.

Delmar411, you're lucky your kids don't need anything for summer! I usually buy our kids stuff about a size larger than they need on some stuff. T's especially. This is the year they have maxed out on a lot.

I got together over 100 things to put in consignment. While sorting through stuff I found things to throw away, and things to donate. I feel pretty good about my progress. I'd like to do a little more today, but mostly I'm going to take it easy I think.

Thanks for the good wishes ladies. :)

Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to give them a ring and see what they have. I'm on the southside so Castleton is *far* away. LOL

Sherry, I hope you are feeling much better! I have to tell you, my admiration for you is immense, because the things that you named that you had done after getting out of the hospital are projects that I have to get done! I'm healthy! Just have to keep plugging along...

Regarding magazines... I receive quite a few subscriptions, most of them free. My favorites like Coastal Living and Better Homes and Gardens I read right away, but the others I get to eventually. I found out recently that the VA hospital near me appreciates donations of magazines, so I weeded out two stacks and dropped them off. I then made a new rule for myself, if the date is two months back then it gets donated without reading when I make a run. Since most magazines send out the issue a month ahead, then I feel like I've had plenty of time. Just this morning I bagged up November and most of December (one issue left that I want to flip through) and I will drop them off this afternoon.

Yay! OceanAnnie, sounds like you and I are on the same schedule. The children's consignment sale that I sell my items at is next month, so I can pack stuff up and know that I will make money off of it. I've been donating some of the kids' things because I just wanted them out of the house, but now there is a financial incentive to get hustling! :woohoo:

BTW, LOVE this thread. See this now and then and reminds me to keep on top of the hot spots. THANKS!

Spending the afternoon going through the boxes of random stuff from our last move. You know, the ones where you need to be out of the house ASAP so you throw it into boxes 'to deal with later'. Well 6 months, later I guess I'll deal with it. :lmao: So far I've found a powerstrip which is great because I was looking for one this morning and was planning to buy a new one, a costco cash card (don't think there's anything on it, but will check next time I'm there), a $20 AMC movie theater card that I think DH bought 6 years ago (still good, I checked), and 200 unused pencils. Think I need to stop hitting the 75% after holiday sales at Target. :rotfl: I also found my stash of 5 cents notebooks from Walmart, along with crayons and glue sticks. A good bunch of those will head into school with DD tomorrow. I still have a lot more to do, but it sure feels nice to have those items sorted into their proper place. :goodvibes
