Who here uses CM's SBC+ for digital scrapping?

Just downloaded my SBC+ and playing around. I noticed there are very limited fonts. I know where I can get some great fonts, but how do you get them into the SBC+ program? :confused3

And if I purchase some QP's from SM, how do I get those into the program? Just import as a page or as a .png or what? :confused3

Thanks for any help for this SBC+ newbie!:goodvibes

You don't have to bring the fonts into SBC+.... if you DL them and install them onto your PC, they will be available to use on SBC+. I have Windows Vista, so to DL a font, I just DL it, extract the file like I do anything else, right click on the file and click "install" and they come in. When I DL a new font, I have noticed I have to shut down SBC+ and reopen it before the font is available to use. I'm not sure if it's the same process if you don't have Vista -- someone else may want to chime in here.

For the QPs, you can literally drag and drop them ono your SBC+ page from the file on your computer as you want to use them (you can do that with any papers or elements.) You can also create your own collections of non-CM goodies under "Home" - "My Stuff." When I buy a kit that has quick pages, I bring them in with the papers so they are there when I want them. I have close to 100 of my own Collections in SBC+ now.

I use the free software "The Font Thing" to organize and install my fonts. It is awesome and super easy!

I really got a lot out of the webinar this morning. How awesome is it that this kind of training us available! I was surprised that it was not published on the Creative Memories website so more people could enjoy it, I was so lucky to find out about it through this message board.

Thanks to all for sharing the information about it and reminding us that it was coming up. :flower3:

This isn't really a finished layout, and I didn't have my EHD hooked up to the computer when I whipped this up, so I didn't have much to work with, but it shows a couple of the things I learned about today (welding the words to the picture and using gradients). I also hadn't noticed that cute dot swirly shape before, so I threw it on there, too!

Jessica -- That's so cool! I love the words in the picture thing.... I've seen that aorund but had no idea where to start in SBC+ with it......

It is actually really easy. You just put a photo and text box on the page, type your text (I used Arial Black, any chunky font works), line up the text box so it fits across the bottom of the picture and make the font big enough to spread across the whole bottom (you might have to flatten the text at this point to be able to finesse the size to be exactly what you want), group the picture and text box, flatten them so they are one element, then choose the picture you want to fill it with from the picture menu on the side and choose "fill selected element with picture". Done!
Some pictures work better than others and sometimes it lines up weird, so it takes a little playing with, but I was surprised at how easy it was!

Jessica-
Way to use what you have learned today

Thanks! I figured I'd better use it, or I'd lose it! The webinar went by so fast, I couldn't take notes or anything. This is really the only way I'll remember what she talked about. I wish they had some kind of downloadable note packet to go with it or something!

Hi Everyone!

Jessica - love how you used the picture/text thingy already! :)

I let the webinar run (again) while I was trying to straighten the house - my almost 7 year old and two 3 year old girls finally went to bed!

Here is a list of the addtional "tips":

1) Using the custom tool to cut around a part of a picture and adding a shadow to make it pop from the rest of the picture ( the picture that she used for the webinar of her daughter Amy where the top part of her head looks like it is coming out of the picture)

2) Making text show up better on patterned paper by making a shape with a similar color, bluring the edges, and putting it behind the text and using the opacity tool to lighten it until it blends in

3) Using overlays and choosing the same color as the background but using the intensity slide in COLOR to make it pop out but stay in the same color family

4) Mentioned that in Memory Manager - you can color select - and decolorize parts of pictures. She showed a layout of her son in several football game shots and he was the only player in color - I think I am going to do this for my daughter's ballet pictures!

5) She went over how to save embellishments without having to go into MY STUFF and just going directly into your file folders - Creative Memories- My Scrapbooking Stuff - File (e.g. Dawn's Flowers) - Scraps...

6) She also used the straight cutter to cut up pieces of paper and added shadows to make triangles pop from the page.

Cool stuff :cool1:

The last thing that she mentioned was that along with the tearing tool - that upgrade would include a bunch of exciting stuff but she didn't tell us what!

I think I need to sleep but I am going to stay up and play in SBC+!!!!!!!!!

DisneyBaby == how did you run it again? Did you join the second one or something? Can I go back and watch it over, too?

Jessica,

I just signed up a second time :) She said there were 900 some people on the call - 85% consultants.

I did use two different e-mail addresses to sign up just in case it wouldn't take. Dawn started the evening one by asking everyone to hold their questions - she also did a much better job because it was the 2nd time aroung.

They are also going to get a recording of it. I will let you know when I figure out where and when they are posting that.

Ok--- you sold me on it. I signed up for next Thursday evening. Can't wait to see the new tricks for myself.

You ae definately right about it seemed like there was one more thing, but I am glad she allowed questions and that she had someone else fielding them.

For if she had not answered the torn edge question I would not have learned her technique for it.

On the other hand I have seen the answer to the Mac question...At this time they have decided not to produce a Mac version since there are parallels that allow work arounds. I guess it was discussed in depth at convention last week. Sorry for the Mac folks!!!

Oh, darn! I sent an email last week and have a call into my CMC. I was really hoping for a positive response for us Mac users.

It really is too bad because as a Mac user who really wants to go to SBC+ it just isn't going to happen.

I'm not spending $80 on Parallels, plus another $200 to buy a full version of Windows in order to buy their software. It also only works on the Intel Macs which means people need machines less than 2 years old. Anyone with an older Mac is out of luck.

I'm actually on an older Mac so I'd have to first spend at least $1500 to get a machine capable of even running parallels.

Also in Parallels you may have to copy your photo library to the Windows side which would take up more hard drive space. I need to check on DH's lap top.

Yes, there is a work around but a pretty clunky one that is cost prohibitive for most people.

It is a shame really because I would switch to their software in a heartbeat. And likely purchase everything digital they have. I'm just not willing to give up my Mac. Mac people don't want to work in Windows.

I guess I'm off to send them another email expressing my disappointment. Not that it'll matter.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I would buy a Mac version in a heartbeat but I don't think I 'm willing to go through all the hassle and expense to make the PC version work. We have had a couple of PC laptops in the past but once you go Mac, you'll never go back!

Who did you send you email to? Maybe we can flood them with requests!

I just signed up for next Thursday's morning session, too. I'm hoping she covers the same stuff as the second one! I can't wait!

ETA, Dawn' Oldham's blog has some more info about using SBC+ on a Mac.
http://www.dawnoldham.com/Site/Files_and_Links.html
Scroll down a little and you'll find a file titled mac and CM software. Maybe it will give you some more options.

I'll post this question over here. Sorry if this has already be covered in another post, but I'm about going cross-eyed trying to find an answer!

Okay - I use SBC+ and I cannot upload .PSD files. Can anyone help me figure this out?

Thanks!!!!!

.psd's are only for photoshop. You can use .png templates, but not .psd's in SBC+.
