DznyFan, sorry DH said he didn't want to go to Disney in the fall. Erin's response was hilarious though
Wasn't that funny?? I had to laugh - even though I was really going WTH? Did he say what I think he just said???
I just started feeling really bad.

I started getting really hot and nauseous; I want to go home.

I don't want to be sick.

hope you start feeling better soon, Amber!
(and PS - TDS is a very bad place for me to be...have any of you seen the line they call Tiki Kingdom??? It's fabulous and I'm slightly addicted...)
great line! We have some of the housewares stuff.
Linda: Is that calculation per month? I'm just not really clear on that.

Yes I do go to WDW a lot, but I think I still spend less than DVC because I really do travel on the cheap. February was an exception, that was probably my most expensive trip but I figured it was worth it because I was meeting all you guys. Normally I would not stay in a moderate and eat at TS every day without
free dining. But if my parents decide to buy into DVC... oh the possibilities!
You can look at it this way, too - I'm totally w/ Linda about averaging it out over the period of time you will be able to use it - however - also bear in mind what you're paying NOW, plus dues.
We've owned for 12 years, and I think it paid for itself in about 8 - but that was figuring what we had paid out against a moderate room rate cost, I think. It also included all the trips that we've used it for - our trips, stepson's trips (he's gone about 4 times on our points), we've given a few nights away as wedding presents, used it at
Disneyland, etc. Right now, at OKW, we pay right at $85/mo in dues. Our dues have gone up about $24 a month over the past twelve years, I think - somewhere between $20 and $24, I can't remember
exactly how much our dues were when we started.
Right now, in dues, we're paying about $1,020.00 per year. If divided by seven nights, it comes out to $145 a night. When it really pays off, like Linda said, is when you go a LOT. And in the beginning, when the payments are being made and the dues payments are being made, it's really tipped to the DVC side.
Remember too, that the DVC rooms, including the studios, are bigger than the standard resort room, and the hotels are NICE. I know for some people, that's not a factor, but really apples to apples would be pricing a DVC resort against a deluxe.
DznyFan…….I am sorry to hear that your DH has nixed the idea of a Disney trip over Fall Break. You still have time to change his mind though. And from what I gather, I’m sure Erin will be working on him as well…… In the meantime, look for every “Disney-themed” show on television – the Travel Channel, Food Network, History Channel, whatever – and make sure he’s around when they come on. Speaking of which, the Travel Channel had on an old “WDW: Behind the Scenes” show on last night. But it had new updates in it. It had info on the Cinderella Suite inside the Castle, the Nemo ride, and other stuff. Instead of making a whole new show, they just mixed in some newer information.
Funny you mention that - we did catch the last third or so of that show. As I was searching
Royal Caribbean and
DCL 3 or four night cruise rates.....
Linda: my head is spinning! I'm not that great with numbers, and have no idea how many points a night costs. When you say 80 for Sun-Thurs, is that all the days or per day? If it's 80 points per day, I don't see how that is a good deal at all. Our 10-day trip coming up is costing me just about $1024 I think is the total for me & the girls, and that's a LOT more than we usually spend. When I went with Lyzzie in May for 6 days, it was only about $450. I just am always so afraid to have anything I HAVE to pay for, because I have no job security whatsoever and am not good at saving. Maybe I could save more if I'd quit going to WDW... nahh.
She clarified, but it's for the whole stay. One thing to bear in mind - the amount of points it 'costs' to stay depends on three variables: the resort you stay at, the accomodation size, and the time of year you go. We have 230 points, and we could squeeze out almost three full weeks a year in the off seasons, in a studio room. However, if we go to a 1-bdrm, which we usually use, it increases the points cost considerably. Remember, too, that points can be used at all the Disney resorts (but the point cost is higher to stay at a non-DVC resort), Hilton Head Island, Vero Beach, and DCL. Is your head REALLY spinning now??

oops...sorry!80 points is for the 5 nights...or 16 points per night. or the studio is 8 points...which they usually rent for around 10 a point so it would come out to about 80 a night for a studio!!! plus you get tons of discounts

I know what you mean...you KNOW you're going to go to wdw...and as we are good at using the points to benefit us the most...it would be either a studio at 8 points a night =$80 a night if renting or the 1 bdrm is 16...but still not bad
considering the benefits and what you get for your $. we'd have a lot more space, incredible location, better beds
...all kinds of good stuff!
Yep!
Pozey - I am so sorry to hear about your brother's struggles. That is so sad - I think what Lyzziesmom said is dead on - you have to let them sink or swim on their own, and it's hard to watch the people you love drown. I hope he's OK, and hope he starts working some of this out soon. Has he ever sought any kind of counseling or therapy to work through some of the troubles of his past?
