Who here is not in the "clique" like me? Part 3

Oh, yea, I meant to mention in my novel ^ above that we too watch American Idol. We just actually got into last year and we watched it from beginning to end. And I'm not just saying this but we were routing for Taylor before they even said "Yes. You're going to Hollywood, Baby!" See, Steven is a HUGE blues fan. I mean he can name off blues legends and (people I've never heard of) like we can name Britany Spears or Madonna. All of his presets on XM are blues. He loves the House of Blues. If you go onto his MySpace it's a blues tune called Bullfrog Blues. He's just a blues dude so when he heard Taylor well, that was all she wrote.

Anyway. We've not been blown away so far and by the looks of it, neither have the judges.

That's awesome. Mike was routing for Taylor all the way too. I bought him his cd when it came out. I liked Chris Daughtry too and I had to have his cd!!!

Last year was the first time I watched it too...

Hey Linda

Now I'm looking at Respiratory Therapy too. Just thought that I'd pass that on since we're both looking at nursing for what seem to be very similiar reasons.

I know there was a post on the Dis awhile back about why did you get into nursing or something like that and I remember reading something about one girl started out in nursing and decided it wasn't for her but found Respiratory Therapy instead but you can do the same hours and such but it's one specialized area.

I can't really remember but I've posted a question out on the Community Board asking if there are any Respiratory Therapists who could tell me the whys and whats of how they got into it. Of course unless I'm relegated to page 6 within five minutes and no one gets to see it. I already see there's one thread on here that "The Others" have taken over w/ senseless banter. You know, where somebody posts a seemingly legit question and then people get on it and take over the thread just chit chatting w/ their friends? Oh, and because the person's post count is low they're automatically a troll.

I'm just getting so darn frustrated on this job hunt! :headache: And honestly, there are times when I'm just like, "Darn it! I'm going back to school!" Now I know there are many people out there with degrees who can't find a job but healthcare is a booming business and there is an extremely high demand for nurses and from what I'm reading Resp. Therapists too. It may not be what I'm "called" to do, I'm not feeling called to anything  like some revelation from Heaven but it's a good career. But, with my ADD my biggest fear is I'd hate it.

Boy, am I feeling down in the dumps lately. :guilty:

Awww April, don't feel down! Other than my family, the only urge I get is Disney related:lmao: Work...OH that's just so I CAN GO to Disney:laughing: Hmmm Higher paying job = more trips to Disney:rolleyes1 is that sad or what!!! Thankfully you're not in the position you have to decide tomorrow, or if you don't make x $'s next week you won't be able to pay the bills ;) I'm w/ya. I'm so frustrated w/driving 80 miles one way to work everyday... but I just don't feel comfortable w/quitting that just yet. It will take me awhile to catch up w/what I make now. Decisions decisions!!! There has to be a site that has careers and basic salary range... you'd think.?

:lmao: Kenny wanted me to come type a message to Disney World...

" I want to go to Disney World right now!"

He thinks it will come true b/c at Disney dreams do come true...

I want to go to Disney.

there is his message ;)

Exactly! And, I like the idea of nursing or whatever because of the flexibility! I love flexibility. I just think I would ABSOLUTELY love 3/12's! Sure I may be tired the next day but once I'm up and going, I'm going!! I think of quicky weekend trips you could take (ok, maybe not just to Disney) if you had 4 days in a week off. Yup, I'm all about the flexibility.

Actually, if you go to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics at www.bls.gov they have just about every kind of job you can think of. It's how I negotiated higher pay at my last job. ;) I checked the national rates and then the Delaware rates and I ended up in the middle and I had the proof to back it. For some reason  my last boss couldn't see past that I was NOT "just" a secretary but that I was an Administrative Assistant II in that position. She was thinking $8.00 an hour was good and I was like, Um no. Do your research, it's more like at least $11.00. Hey I wasn't just answering phones and fetching coffee. I was billing and doing office orders and dealing w/ AP/AR and invoices and credit cards you know the drill.

Anyway, this is what I found for Respiratory Therapist hope I'm not boring you with all of this. {blush, blush}
Job opportunities are expected to be very good, especially for respiratory therapists with cardiopulmonary care skills or experience working with infants. Employment of respiratory therapists is expected to increase faster than average for all occupations through the year 2014, because of substantial growth in the numbers of the middle-aged and elderly population—a development that will heighten the incidence of cardiopulmonary disease—and because of the expanding role of respiratory therapists in the early detection of pulmonary disorders, case management, disease prevention, and emergency care.
And here's the pay info:
Earnings [About this section] Back to Top

Median annual earnings of respiratory therapists were $43,140 in May 2004. The middle 50 percent earned between $37,650 and $50,860. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $32,220, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $57,580. In general medical and surgical hospitals, median annual earnings of respiratory therapists were $43,140 in May 2004.

Median annual earnings of respiratory therapy technicians were $36,740 in May 2004. The middle 50 percent earned between $30,490 and $43,830. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $24,640, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $52,280. Median annual earnings of respiratory therapy technicians employed in general medical and surgical hospitals were $36,990 in May 2004.
Now I realize this info is almost 3 years old but I still think it's good enough to get a picture.

And here's Related Occupations:
Related Occupations [About this section] Back to Top

Under the supervision of a physician, respiratory therapists administer respiratory care and life support to patients with heart and lung difficulties. Other workers who care for, treat, or train people to improve their physical condition include registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and radiation therapists.

Here's some info on RNs:
Job opportunities for RNs in all specialties are expected to be excellent. Employment of registered nurses is expected to grow much faster than average for all occupations through 2014, and, because the occupation is very large, many new jobs will result. In fact, registered nurses are projected to create the second largest number of new jobs among all occupations. Thousands of job openings also will result from the need to replace experienced nurses who leave the occupation, especially as the median age of the registered nurse population continues to rise.

Much faster-than-average growth will be driven by technological advances in patient care, which permit a greater number of medical problems to be treated, and by an increasing emphasis on preventive care. In addition, the number of older people, who are much more likely than younger people to need nursing care, is projected to grow rapidly.

and earnings:
Earnings [About this section] Back to Top

Median annual earnings of registered nurses were $52,330 in May 2004. The middle 50 percent earned between $43,370 and $63,360. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $37,300, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $74,760. Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of registered nurses in May 2004 were as follows:

Employment services $63,170
General medical and surgical hospitals 53,450
Home health care services 48,990
Offices of physicians 48,250
Nursing care facilities 48,220

OK, back to your regularly scheduled dising :teeth:

my buddy from work called me yesterday to inform me he was staring at my ship!!!:rotfl: The carnival boat was right by the disney one. He said "I'm staring at 2 mickey heads" that BRAT!

How mean!!!:rotfl: Well you will be there in about a week or so too!

That's awesome. Mike was routing for Taylor all the way too. I bought him his cd when it came out. I liked Chris Daughtry too and I had to have his cd!!!

I was thinking about getting his CD. Is it good? I am not really a huge AI fan, but I heard his song and loved it!

Lyzziesmom- I love the pics! Emma looks so cute in her snow suit!

There has to be a site that has careers and basic salary range... you'd think.?

www.salary.com should have what you are looking for. A lot of companies use it to help determine titles and pay scale. It's not always accurate depending on where you live, but it's pretty good. Whoops, Kenny is a year older than I thought! I guess because he is petit, I was thinking he was going to be 5 instead of 6. You're right, Emma will be 3 on June 2nd. I can't believe it, it seems like she just barely turned 2!

Linda: you can tell Kenny that I feel exactly the same way! Emma was holding Kenny's picture today for a while, and she told me, "That's Kenny. I see him at Disney World. Does he have any fries?" :rotfl:

My mom said today that she hopes Disney has "that free food thing" again (free DDP) so we can all go again this year. I couldn't believe she said that!! She is the one who always thinks I am crazy for wanting to go all the time, and thinking of getting an AP, and now she is already thinking of going again!!

I have watched American Idol from the beginning, except for some reason I never really watched the season with Fantasia (was it 3?) and Season 2 I only watched the last few weeks. Then 2 years ago, Lyzzie really got into it and cried when Bo Bice didn't win, she even made signs and held them up in our living room! Last year I thought Katharine McPhee was going to win, but it looks like she turned out to be a flake. I just don't think Taylor really has a broad appeal and "staying power," but who knows? Look what Clay Aiken has done with just a 2nd place win. I like that it is a show I can actually watch with the kids and we all enjoy it. I don't really watch too much of the auditions, I usually just have it on in the background. Anyone who makes it, they will replay the footage ad infinitum anyway so I don't feel like I'm missing much, and once you've seen a few horrible singers they all seem the same.

Emma is sitting in a laundry basket watching tv and Lyzzie is outside playing in the snow again. She made another snowman with my dad in the front yard - they put snow ears on it and it looks really weird, but cute! No pictures, because I don't feel like going out in it again. I don't know how people live where it's like this most of the year, I'd go crazy! It is so pretty, but it's so coooooold!!

That is awesome info April!!! Long weekends...OH yeah!!! I would love that. $8 an hr...NO WAY!!! I think our lowest paid person is our warehouse guy (who deserves more) is paid like $14 an hr?? The average is around $25-$40 Not too bad for not needing a degree. Wouldn't be bad if it werent so far away. Mike doesn't want to move, which I can understand...sometimes ;)

Is that rotten or what  I can't wait... I'm getting so hyped up about this! I've only listened to Taylors cd while cleaning the house once:rolleyes1 Mike put it in.. but that's about all of it I've heard! I think he's pretty good.

I'll have to check that site out. That's awesome! Yes, Kenny is pretty small for his age.

Does he have fries:lmao: she kills me!!! I'm going to have to get that girl some fries!

Way to go mom...getting the disney fever:cheer2:

yeah, Katherine was a different one ;)

I'm w/Emma, stay in where it's WARM!!!

Goodness, Linda! What do you do??? That's some great pay. That's me, no degree. :guilty:

Linda: I have a degree, can I come work with you? The commute would be a killer, but it sounds like they pay great! Although I must admit, I am very overpaid for what I am doing at the moment. (Have I mentioned how bored I've been at work??) Hopefully they will figure out soon that I am capable of a lot more than just answering the phone and plugging in numbers on spreadsheets!

Telecommunications.... it pays pretty good, but let me tell ya... our company is less than 1/2 the size it was 5 years ago. I watched people all around me get laid off and disappear. :sad2: It isn't a position I want to be. Plus, they expect you to travel... sometimes a few hours a way, sometimes across the country. I traveled all over the country for over 3 years before I hired on w/these guys. It payed great :) While you're traveling you get an extra $80 a day for per diem. Pays your hotel and food expenses... I loved it but when we hired on here we didn't have to travel near as much. Then I became a quality auditor, checking everyone elses work... loved that! I'd take home about 1k a month just in mileage!! But...when I got pregnant w/Kenny they wanted me to be in the office in case I needed to get home w/Kenny. So, now I'm only 80 miles away instead of maybe 250 miles away in the backwoods ;) Now I've taken over a bunch of office stuff. It's ok, but gets boring. We do have offices all over the country. Actually I think the closest to you is in Raleigh. If they'd just let me telecommute I'd be set!

Look at me racking up my post count on our thread. ;) :rotfl:

Well, I've got to get the dinner dishes washed up and put my clean sheets from the dryer back on the bed but before I do that I've got to fold the pile of towels on the unmade bed.

Boy, did I have a mess here earlier. I was trying to fill a pot w/ water for spaghetti (sp?) and I was reaching over my head trying to grab the salt while balancing the pot on that tiny little divider in the middle of the sink (because I had dishes in the sink  ) well, in my one handed attempt I hit the brand new glass bottle of ketchup. It fell down into the drainer full of dishes broke and bounced out onto the floor. There was ketchup splattered ALL OVER the kitchen. It actually hit the wall across the room. I had ketchup all over me, all over the rug by the sink and all over the WHITE cabinets!! Little shards of glass everywhere including my pot of water for spaghetti. :sad2: I wasn't too happy but it was my fault. I stuck everything in the washer right away rug, jeans, slippers, socks and luckily it all came out. Any other time I wouldn't be putting a dirty floor rug in w/ my clothes but I was so disgusted I just shoved them all in together.

You're not overpaid ;) maybe under utilized...but never overpaid:goodvibes Actually I've thought many times, I wonder if I'd be able to get you a job for Sprint/Embarq...they've got a huge place out there by you! They pay pretty good and have incredible benefits! Their retirement....oh yeah ;)! They have a huge place here in Mansfield too...I should go there, but that's where Mikes X works ;):rolleyes1

Oh man April:guilty: I read your post to Kenny

Kenny has a message for you " this is Kenny and I want to make you feel better and yeah talk to you later yeah bye, Kenny"

OH man that sucks. I would have done the same thing. Now spaghetti does sound good! Watch out for that glass! yikes!

Good luck, Lyzziesmom!! I HATE being bored at work. I love action but not many office/desk jobs provide that. And it doesn't even have to be physical action as long as it keeps my brain engaged. It just seems like when you're busy the day goes by quicker and like Linda said, "Work...OH that's just so I CAN GO to Disney" I mean there are so many other places I'd rather be. :rotfl:

80 miles? Bless you heart, that is a distance. Yea, and Raleigh is about 4 or 5 hours from here. I know because I have a bunch of credit w/ Southwest Airlines and the closest they fly is into Raleigh/Durahm which is a little over 5 hours away. Whatever happened with your telecomuting? Just before I went down w/ the computer for my move you were talking about getting your home office set up. Did you ever live closer than 80 miles? I just think that drive would get old how do you do it?

Linda: My dad works for Sprint here, along with 90% of the city. He lives less than a mile from the Sprint HQ. The thing with Sprint is, most of the people they hire are contract workers, and they do a LOT of layoffs. In the 5 or 6 years my dad has worked there, they have done layoffs of at least 5,000 people about 8 or 9 times, once was just a few weeks ago. He is always afraid of losing his job, but somehow his department always escapes the layoffs. It is very hard to get a job there, the hiring process takes forever, plus I don't really like working for large corporations. However, I do get a good deal on my cell phone through my dad! And at this point, I'd be willing to consider almost anything because my job is driving me nuts. That's so sweet that you would think of me like that!!
