Who has the IPhone? If so, whatcha think?

DH and I each have an iphone, and we love them. I never want to be without one again, it can do almost anything (except dishes and windows :lmao: ). Seriously, it even stores my shopping lists in it, very convenient.

As far as reception goes, mine is better now than it was when I had my BlackBerries. With both of them, dropped calls and static were an unfortunate daily reality. Now, living in the same apartment I was then, I have had a total of 4 dropped calls since June 19 (iPhone launch day). After the 4th drop, I called into AT&T and was informed that they were doing work in the area and that the problem should be resolved within the next 6-8 hours. I was back up to a full signal in about 45 minutes, and it has been flawless ever since.

And the people to whom I'm talking have said how good sound quality is. I was actually on the phone with a customer service person once while shopping in Walgreens and during a lull in conversation, he said, "So, Kenny Rogers, huh?" He was hearing what they were playing on Walgreens' in-store music system, and very quietly at that. It was a little scary. ;) I can no longer covertly eat a sandwich during work conference calls that occur at lunchtime!

Love my iphone. I'm not in a 3G area so it's not as fast as when I travel somewhere that is. But, I love it. I like the attraction wait time app :goodvibes

As for unlimited, it depends on if others in the family have phones. $30 is unlimited data per phone. I think unlimited text is $20, but I'm not sure. It's $30 for a family unlimited text.

I switched to an iPhone from a Blackberry last year. I have very mixed feelings about the iPhone.

It's a great toy and there are a lot of interesting apps for it. On the other hand, the core functions for me (e-mail, calendaring, and web browsing) are a big step backwards. The e-mail client is terrible. The calendar is OK, but it suffered from some serious bugs for a while. The browser is cool in that it shows a page the way it would look on a computer, but that often makes a page harder to read. The phone (a second gen) is painfully slow and surprisingly buggy.

AT&T is awful. There are many evenings when I have a lot of trouble making a call. The 3G network is a joke. My phone drops to EDGE most of the time I try to do anything.

I also hate the whole "big brother" mentality of the iPod/iTunes world. Why must I go through iTunes? Why can't I just put songs, videos, apps directly on my phone like I can with just about any other device? I'm also not a fan of having Apple decide what apps I am allowed to have.

I ahve had about 5 different smart phones and for me the iphone was the best. I currently have a blackberry for work and theere is one palce in the middle of the bus terminal where my iphone does not get reception but my tmobile blackberry does.

Prior to that i had verizon and while the service was fine it was clear to everyone i called that i was on a cell phone. with at&t most people don't realize that i am on a cell or even on speaker phone.

it's not a perfect phone but i LOVE mine.

I keep hearing about ATT reception being bad. We don't have a problem with ATT and our current phones, so would we have a problem with ATT and an iPhone?

As far as I know reception is carrier and location related, not really phone. If your reception is good with AT&T in the area, it should stay good. Mine has always been fine with iPhone and with my previous phone.

I do love my iPhone. I got a refurbished one and LOVE it! One of the main reasons is that I am a big music fan, and now I can combine all of my listening into one little thing. It's amazing. I have my iPod songs on it, I have Pocket Tunes so that I can listen to my XM radio, and now I have an XM Radio Skydock so that I can listen in the car (to XM or iPod) easily and charge at the same time. I have a small iPhone compatible player/charger in the kitchen so the phone is always charged and always around.

The mapping feature is nice too. So nice to know I can find places while out! (I don't have GPS in the car, so this is really nice.) Most of my apps put DH's Blackberry to shame when it comes to finding a restaurant or a movie time - very fast and all the local places are listed. I don't really use it for internet, but the direct mail check is fast and things like Facebook are quick too.

In other words, great gift Mom!

Agreed with all the above. We are an iphone/ATT family and rarely have problems. Reception is a little spotty by DD's school but it's spotty for ALL carriers in that area. Still, I don't have much of a problem checking email etc when waiting for DD to come out of school.

And the map feature is one of my favorite things about the iphone (along w/synching to my address book on my computer). I have all of DD's friends addresses in my phone. When I need to pick her up I just tap the friend's name and up pops the directions. It also makes a great "yellow pages" too. Just put in what you're looking for and the city or zip and you have the # and addy right there. You don't even need to go to phone to dial just tap the #.

I'm not much of an app person but DH and DD are app fiends. Apparently they rock.:rotfl:

Data plans are unlimited so I'm not sure what a previous poster meant there. You now have to pay more for texting which is $20 for unlimited for one person or $30 for a family plan. I've checked out prices for other companies and find them comparable so I don't know what people are talking about when they say At&t is expensive. But then we have an older family plan w/ a ton of rollover mins.

I have all my tunes and a bunch of movies, can surf the net, check my email and even make a phone call. What's not to love?:lovestruc

We are in an ATT area so you will have NO problems. I mainly travel in the NY/PA/NJ/MD/DE/VA area and have no problems with reception anywhere. I was in FL last week and had perfect reception all week. I do think some parts of the country have bad reception for ATT but not around us :thumbsup2

I absolutely love my iPhone. Best thing ever. I cannot express how much I love it.

Friend of mine has the iPhone. He loves the phone but hates the AT&T service here. Lot of dropped connections.

DH got an iPhone last year, and I didn't think I wanted one. Now I have one, and I LOVE it! While I miss my Verizon service, I haven't had many issues with the AT&T coverage in my area. I do live in a major metropolitan area though, so your mileage may vary. So here's my vote for the iPhone!

I know it's supposed to be, but my reception improved exponentially when I switched to the iPhone. People always complained about how awful calls from/to me sounded, and I dropped calls daily when calling from my apartment. That hasn't happened since. Very weird.

Agreed! If your reception is good with AT&T, then it will be good with your iPhone with AT&T.

Love my iPhone.

My only negs are that the battery doesn't hold a charge as long as my Tilt. But on the upside, it charges very quickly.

I am still not used to the keyboard on it. I think I may prefer a stylus or an actual keyboard. But I can deal with it. Now, my kids and hubby have no issue with the keyboard so maybe I just have fumble fingers.

We are becoming an iPhone family this Christmas!:santa:

I did not love the lack of gps that most phones have standard now.

Now, I'm not being smart, this is an honest question:What's the full definition of GPS? When I put in my address it drops a pin where I'm at. As I drive the little pin follows my route. When I ask for a route it gives me one along with readable directions. We use maps for traffic as well. If I'm looking for something I put it in and it finds it for me. So it's not technically GPS but it's not useless either.

I think of the iphone as a "media" or "entertainment" phone, I've never thought of it as a smart phone. I think a lot of people expected it to be and were disappointed.

I don't know how many of you iPhone owners have tried the Toy Story Mania app, but OMG, is it ever addictive! They've fixed whatever glitch arose in the last update, apparently; I was waiting till I heard that that had been dealt with before buying the app. I have been playing it for like the last 2 hours straight. I'm gonna be all wired and twitchy and won't be able to sleep tonight. Lol..

I think they are great. Dh and I were traveling through Ohio and it was about dinner time. Dh asked if I knew of a good place to eat in that area and I didn't. I did a google search on the phone for great restuarants in ---. Got a list of places, checked some reviews, chose one and put their address into maps. The got directions from our present location and we were able to get there without much trouble. It was cool to have that kind of resource from your phone.

I really like my iphone. Have many different skins for it and lots of fun apps. Syncs easily to my Dell laptop also and works great with my router.
:):)

so jailbreak it, sounds like you are out of warranty anyway.

I LOVE my iPhone would never go back to a regular phone. We have great service with ATT here, at least we do with my iPhone. I had a samsung perviously and had dropped calls here and there has not happen once with my iPhone.

3G is great here, I think it depends where you live what kind of service you get. Bigger cities seem to have more trouble but I think they would with any carrier with a Smart phone.

If you decide to get her one I have a thread on the budget board for FREE apps that I update everyday. You can actually download them now and if and when you upgrade ( and you should) to the iPhone they will be there to install.

I have the iPhone and AT&T. My wife has the Droid and Verizon.

I cannot tell you how much I wish my workplace had NOT switched to AT&T. The Droid beats the iPhone hands down, and Verizon is an infinitely better carrier than AT&T will ever hope to be.

I've contacted my national director and asked if I can PLEASE be switched back to Verizon. I drop calls, am without service, and have terrible reception the majority of the time. The iPhone is awkward and the battery life is stupidly short.

Nope. I'd go with a Droid and Verizon any day before deliberately getting involved with an iPhone and AT&T. :(
