Anyone else surprising the kids this week? How are you telling them??

We are breaking the news tomorrow morning with video camera in hand!!

DH and I can't wait!!

Our trip is a Christmas surprise. The kids will find out Christmas Eve. Its tough keeping the secret while we are planning everything, but its a lot of fun too!

We've been keeping "the secret" since May!!

We will tell them on the morning that we leave (12/21).
We're waking them up and telling them that they can open 1 gift before we have to go to "grandma's" later that day. The gift will be a digital camera (for each of them) that they can use for the trip, a Christmas lanyard and pin that we ordered from Disney shopping .com and a t-shirt that has the seven dwarfs piled up like a Christmas tree and it says "Surprise, Christmas at Walt Disney World, 2005!"
Then we tell them "hurry up and pack we're leaving in 3 hours!"

I have been keeping the secret since July and I am about to burst, we just decided not to tell My DD 4 1/2 till we see the Walt Disney World Banner into the entrance.....Funny story I have been on here so much when I went to take my dd to see santa she asked santa to take me to Disney cause I really wanted to go, Santa was laughing at me, I blushed!!!! Wait till we surprise her.............Dont know how long I can do this for!!!!

I've kept the secret up to arrival, and those have been the best. We live about a 4 hour drive from WDW. On a couple of occaisions, I've started the drive (telling my daughter we were going somewhere else) around 6pm or 7pm. The car did its magic and she dozed off. Arriving at around 10 or 11 (and having slept all the way) she would wake and suddenly realize where she was. That was special.

I can't pull that one off any longer, but it sure was great when I could.

We leave Saturday morning, and the kids STILL don't know (DD 5 and DS 7).

Not sure when we'll tell them. I think my DS may get wise to the fact we're going somewhere when the dog dissappears (to the kennel) and the extra set of grandparents show up from out of town.

If not, then he'll probably figure it out in the airport when we're flying to Orlando on a direct flight from Portland, OR. I can't imagine that there won't be other families talking about Disney in the airport or on the plane.

My official line once he starts figuring it out is "We are going to Florida to visit uncle Mic". (He's not my real uncle, as my ears would be even bigger than they are if he was.)

How exciting! Good for you keeping the secret -- especially at this time of year!! Have a super great time!

We leave Sunday, and we told our DD4 last night! I gave her a tink autograph book & pen and a new dress and told her she was going to need them for next week. She wasn't as excited as we thought but then again we've been talking about it in non specific terms for a while.

When she got to preschool this morning she sure was excited to tell her teacher she was going on vk to WDW and wouldn't be at school next week! :rotfl:

Definitely video tape it.........we surprised our boys three years ago and video taped waking them up and telling them we were going......IT IS PRICELESS to watch and priceless to have always........my little guy, who was three at the time, still refers to the trip as "surprise Mickey Mouse!!" ::MickeyMo

ENJOY making wonderful memories.......your kids will appreciate what wonderful parents they have!!

In March 2004 we didnt tell ours until we were on the way. We had just bought a new car and told him we were going to drive it for a while. Got in the car and started driving east on I20. We didnt tell him until we were in Jackson, MS. The look on his face was priceless!!!!!

In June, I took my son again. Woke him up early for a 6am flight and made him put on nice clothes. Told him I was going to take him to work. After he was awake and moving told him I was just kidding and that I was taking him to WDW. Again, his jaw hit the ground.

Couple of weeks ago we went again. We had told him about the trip and that we would be leaving early on a Friday morning. Well, Thursday afternoon after picking him up from school he said " I wish we could go tonight" I said well its a good thing you said that because we are. Took the last flight of the night from DFW and arrived at 1pm. It was great. I love surprising him.

We've been keeping the secret since April, and we've still got another month to go. Leaving the morning after DD's birthday for 10 days at the World. Hopefully we'll be able to keep our mouths shut for a few more weeks. :rolleyes1

Have a great trip!

I couldn't keep the secret  , they've known since the day we booked the trip.

But they DON'T know that their aunt, my sister, who they adore but don't see often is coming down for the weekend. She is meeting us at POFQ tomorrow and I will definitely have the video camera ready :flower:

I made our ressies back in January for our Dec. trip. The kids (4 and 2) will not find out about the trip until we arrive at MCO.
The last few days have really been hard to keep the secret. Especially after watching the special on the Food Network last night.

I'm currently keeping the secret from my own DH!!! LOL!!! I'm going to put the trip confirmation in his Christmas stocking!! We are going in January, but since it's only for a 4-day weekend, he doesn't need that much notice to miss only 2 days of work!!

This thread makes me happy! I am trying desperately to keep our March 06 trip a secret. I dont plan on telling my girls. They'll guess when they see the airport!

I did the surprise trip once too. Unfortunately video taping it didn't work out how we thought it would. DS knew we were planning a trip for the next Spring but Grandma nad Grandpa decided to take us for a surprise trip over Christmas. He thought we were just going camping in their RV. We were in Orlando when we told him. He had been asking to go to the pool at the campground all day. We get the video cam all set up and sit him on the couch to tell him. We were expecting a huge reaction because he was SO excited about the trip the next spring. He said "oh...Disney World? Ok. [[[[pause]]]]] Can I go to the pool now?" :rotfl:

The next morning when we were headed in to the park he was bouncing off the walls he was so excited but the initial videoed reaction was quite underwhelming.

I told my DD that WE are only going for the MVMCP but what she doesnt know is that we are staying an extra FOUR DAYS!!!! I am not going to tell her until the next morning when we are supposed to be going home!!!! She will be sooo suprised!!! :cheer2:

My DD 5 and DS 2 found out today. DH is deployed and wrote them a letter. I wasn't sure what letter it would be in. I should have peaked because I wasn't ready with the video camera and their reaction was priceless. My DD is learning how to read so I made her read the letter. "DISNEY" is hard to sound out so the first time she read it she kind of missed it. I told her to read the sentence again. Then she burst out in excitement. DS has no idea what WDW is but his sister's excitement got him going. The two of them rolled and cuddled and squealed... with DS yelling "Yahooo!" Sure wish I would have gotten the response to show their dad.... But it sure put a smile on my face too. :sunny:

My sister surprised her kids last year by taking them out of school early one day, sitting them down on the sofa, and saying that Daddy had something important to tell them. They reacted appropriately...jumping up and down, hugging each other, screaming, etc. BUT the downside is that everytime they have something important to tell the kids, they assume its another surprise trip to DW. For example, when being told they were moving to a different state, they thought DW trip. Big let down and makes the real news even harder to take.

We are surprising our kids in January...getting in the car and saying we are going to their Uncle's house. When the ride gets long, we'll make up excuses until someone recognizes where we are.
