Who has a Kindle? (wireless reading device)

There's one on Amazon for $1,500.00. I am going to watch and see if he gets it!!!
$1500.00 :scared1:

I saw a couple Kindles on Ebay in the 600.00 price range w/bids. One is at $635.00 w/22 bids and another at 610.00 w/27 bids. Just makes me happy I ordered when I did and got the 50.00 off! I almost didn't get it because of the price but the 309.00 I spent is the best money spent on myself in a long time!!:goodvibes

HOLY CRAPOLY  Again, all I can think to say is, it feels so good to be MONTHS ahead of Oprah of the biggest thing to happen to reading since mass publishing :lmao: I've been singing Kindle's praises since I got it and I'm not the least bit surprised at it's latest sell out :rolleyes1

Bomb, remember, you should still be able to get your books via your computer usb. All is not completely lost. If you have any problem, PM me, I think I can be of some help that you may not have thought of. In fact, I'm headed out just now but I'll get back to you this evening with an idea.

HORRAY!! My Kindle has been shipped! It should be on my door step when I get home today!!!! What a relief, ordered for my Son for Christmas - didn't think I would get it in time, I'm so happy. Now I seriously hope he loves it. He loves to read and loves gadgets so thought it was perfect for him. I am going to leave it linked to my amazon account for Christmas day so he can download a book right away, but how complicated is it to change to his account (will he be able to do it on Christmas day or does he/I have to call Amazon to do it?) I don't want to de-activate before I give to him in case he does not have an Amazon account.

Please reassure me that he's gonna love it, my husband thinks it's the stupidest gift ever, but I don't agree. Tell me how much you love yours!

Also- how was it packaged when it was shipped from Amazon, My son might possibly be the first person home this evening and I would hate for him to see what it was before Christmas, please tell me it was in an unmarked box!!

I wish I had bought a couple of extra Kindles during the summer, when they were plentiful. I can't believe that, for the second Christmas in a row, they are sold out on Amazon and going for big bucks on Ebay.

I wonder if next Christmas............?

OK, so now I've had a moment to go through the entire thread, and I'm understanding that I can order books on Amazon.com right now, and then just turn on my whispernet in the airport tomorrow (Minneapolis HAS to have Sprint, no?) and they will all just upload immediately? That would probably be a better idea than sitting in the airport trying to type them all out...wasting battery....plus I've been scared that I'm going to lose my list.:rotfl:

If your son loves to read and loves gadgets, this is the PERFECT gift and he will LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

It's not difficult to change it to another account - in fact, Amazon has a little instruction thing on how to do that on their website. And as far as the box... it's been a long time since I got mine buit it came in just a regular old Amazon box.

But the packaging of the device itself is pretty awesome. I kept mine just because I liked it so much :rotfl2:

It depends on whether you are going to get another Kindle and if so will you
want to be able to share the books either of you order? If so, it would be fine to leave it on your account. If he wants a completely separate booklist, though, he should register it to his own account and put his own credit card on it.

If you download something onto a Kindle that is registered into one account and then change the Kindle to another account, the downloaded book will be erased.

You should think about whether you want to share a Kindle with anyone else, since they will be able to see everything on the account and you will too. Do you anticipate either of you reading something that might be offensive to the other, or just embarrassing???:rotfl:

Yes, Briarmom, you can do exactly that!!!! Have fun at the airport tomorrow - please post when you get a chance and let us know how it went!!

I am exhausted from the trip, but I just wanted to come on and say how FANTASTIC it was to use the Kindle with the whispernet, even though it was only for a brief time. I ordered the complete Wizard of Oz series (all 15 books) for only 99 cents!

I am a bit nervous about the battery. It was already down a bit when I arrived in Minneapolis and I'd just charged it fully.

If I leave my Amazon account on the Kindle for Christmas day, and my son downloads a book, if he changes the account to his own the next day, the book will be gone? Please help me understand this better before I give to him, should I take my Amazon account off??

ELB, does your son have his own credit card? If so, I would wait to download anything until he opens it and has a chance to deregister it from your account and reregister it to his. I think all things being equal he will want to have the Kindle on his own account, for privacy reasons if no other (do you really want your mom to see everything you are reading?:rotfl: )

If he does not have a credit card and wants to keep the Kindle on your account, you can go ahead and download anything you want for him before Christmas.

Yes, if you change accounts everything will be lost.

You can give him an Amazon gift card if you want to give him some "books" as a gift. The gift card is loaded onto his account and any purchase automatically is pulled from that amount first, before being charged to a credit card. So a $50 gift card would let him purchase 5 new books before any charges went to his credit card.

Briarmom, my battery will last almost a week if I just turn Whispernet on in the morning to download my newspaper and then turn it off. If yours is significantly worse performing than that, I'd give Amazon a call and describe what you are seeing. They may want to change your battery or your Kindle.

Keep a record for the next few days/weeks and see what is really happening. It may be that you got a little jump at first but then the battery will last the normal amount of time. Remember that if you downloaded a bunch of stuff at once the Kindle goes to work indexing it all so it might have taken a lot more battery than normal to index your new stuff.

Ok, so I should not touch it until he opens and deregisters it, he can do that directly from the Kindle? I did not want to download anything for him, I just thought I would let him download a couple of books on Christmas on my account, but if everything is going to disappear when he changes it, I will do as you said and get him a GC or give him the cash, I'm so glad I read this prior to him getting the gift, he would have lost all the books he downloads. So I will just leave account alone until I give to him on Christmas and tell him, first thing he has to do is deactivate my account and register his, right?

Yes, I think so - but I think he has to do it from a computer, not the Kindle itself. I could be wrong about that, though!!! Anyway, it will not be difficult for him to figure out. All you do is go to the website - if you have any questions you might give Amazon Customer Service a call before Christmas so you are clear on what to do.

Today all was well. I read an entire book (jetlag....woke up at 3 am) and I am still at full. :thumbsup2

Good - sounds like it was the indexing, then. How are you enjoying your Kindle???

I finally got the red leather case for it a couple days ago. It's really nice. I like it much better then the original it came with.

I wish I would have ordered 2 Kindles when I ordered mine. My Mom likes it so much it would have been the perfect gift for her. At first she didn't seem interested but after I showed her how it worked and how easy it was she really liked it.

So it's been 6 weeks since I got it and I still love it.:)
