Who has a Kindle? (wireless reading device)

So far I give this a 7 out of 10.... too easy to hit "next page"... and 2 or 3 times I was sent back to the home page. I don't know what caused that, but I didn't hit the home page key.

I haven't gotten thru all 16 pages of comments yet so please forgive me if this has been answered previously. I love the idea of the Kindle. My only concern is taking it on vacation to the beach. I would think that sun, sand, water and electronic devices are a bad idea. But I love reading on my lounge chair and to be truthful also on my pool float. Anyone taken their Kindle on vacation? Did it survive?

I read while in the bath and just slide my Kindle into a zip lock bag and I've never had a problem.

I noticed that too. Another annoying thing is the "cursor" that runs up and down that little sliver of a window alongside the page is hard to see. Why'd they make it silver instead of black?

Yes, I think that's pretty common. You'll figure it out with a little more use. Many people say it's much easier if you read with it in the cover. If you don't like the one it came with (and many people don't) the leather one by M-Edge is divine. Go ahead and treat yourself - a real leather cover that holds it more securely it's a treat.

I second this suggestion. I solved the "page turner" problem by getting the M-edge cover. :thumbsup2

You should get a bonus from this company- based on your earlier review I ordered one. My Kindle is due to arrive the first week of December and so is the M-Edge cover (red also due to you!:rotfl: ).

:rotfl: I'm just paying it forward - I did the same thing after reading the reviews on the Amazon website and seeing how many people raved about that cover. It is nice - there are little brackets in three of the four corners (by brackets I mean a reinforced leather piece that holds that corner securely.) The fourth - top right hand - corner has a strip of elastic sewn in and you can fit your finger in the back to flick the power or wireless on or off without taking the Kindle out of the cover. I love mine!!!

Found myself doing that, too, until I started hitting "next page" on the left side instead of the right.
Am going to look for a new cover. REALLY dislike the one it came with -- it's not secure at all.
I used my kindle on the treadmill yesterday (had to run 7 miles) and it was wonderful to increase the font really large and be able to read without worrying about binder clipping the pages open. :)

I hope to use mine on the elliptical tomorrow.... Not for 7 miles, mind you, but maybe 3. ;)

I ordered the leather case too. I'm still waiting for it and it's in my favorite color; red. :) Anyway the original case is hard to use because it only has the 2 brackets on the left side and the bracket on top is kind of bent up and isn't securing it at all so I just got out of habit of using it. That being said without using a case I don't have anything to clip the light onto. I can't believe that original cover/case it came with is 25.00 if you want to replace it. It's a nice looking cover just isn't securing the Kindle at all, More like just a carrying case I think.

I have read that some people just slide it into a large ziploc type bag and use it through/in that.

:thumbsup2 Works GREAT!! Just be sure it's not one of those double layer zippies, they don't work so well :guilty:

It takes a bit of practice and getting used to but once you get the hang of it that won't be a problem anymore.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE M-EDGE!! In the mean time, a good tip for you newbies is to use a bit of velcro. I put mine on each side but put yours wherever it works for you. It will stay in place and make things much easier to use until you can get a better cover. It only takes a small dot. Mine are the size of M&M's :)

If nothing else, today I found out why I will love this..... it is awesome at the gym.... can easily read it while on the ellipitical and the treadmill. Did an hour between both and was able to read about 6 chapters of a book..... I did have to raise the font size by one, though.

I did find the larger font most useful for those kinds of things and at first the frequent page changes annoyed me but I quickly adapted and found the larger type much easier on my 45 year old eyes :)

I just found out that my SM bought my DF one for Xmas, I'm so jealous;) !

Now I have to go back and reread this whole thread so I know what accessories to buy him from his kids!

Lucky all of you and him!
Terri

FINALLY, it's supposedly on its way! (I ordered 11/4 and the delivery date has said 11/25 to 11/28 since then.) Now it's been shipped with an estimated delivery date of tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Well, I broke down and ordered dad the attachable light and that BEAUTIFUL red leather case y'all have been talkin' about ;) . It's on backorder, but supposed to ship Nov. 30, so fingers crossed!

Hope y'all get yours that are waiting!
Terri

It's on the UPS truck! Should be on my porch when I get home tonight! Woo hoo!!!!!!!

My leather cover arrived today (Wednesday)- I ordered it Friday the 14th and it was supposed to be shipped 11/25 with delivery between 12/5 and 12/15- it is beautiful but is sitting there mocking me as I wait for the Kindle itself to arrive (ordered 11/8 and supposed to be shipped 12/1-12/5). ;)
BTW- the cover is a lovely shade of a rich red (better than the photo on Amazon like someone posted earlier) and smells like a saddle shop (in a good way!).
