Who has a Kindle? (wireless reading device)

2 people I work with ordered them since I showed them how easy it was to use and how easy to download books etc. I read everyday and this is the best money spent.

Debbie:)

Hey, it finally shipped! Funny part is that the tracking says it is in Philly today... and is expected delivery of November 17th... and I only live 25 miles from CC Philly.... so who knows?

I emailed Amazon yesterday about the delay in shipping my Kindle:
I am dismayed at the delivery situation for this item. I am an Amazon Prime member. The item was "in stock" when I placed the order. It is coming directly from Amazon. I can't imagine a legitimate excuse for this long of a delay in shipment for an in stock item. Please advise.

This was their answer:
Thank you for asking about the availability of Amazon Kindle. Due to high customer demand, we do not have enough devices on hand to immediately fulfill the large number of orders we've received. We are working hard to manufacture Kindles as quickly as possible and are prioritizing orders on a first come, first served basis. We'll certainly do our best to get your Kindle out to you as quickly as we can. We will keep you informed by email as we get more precise delivery dates. We're working hard to get Kindle to you. We definitely appreciate your interest, and we apologize for any frustration caused by this situation. Thank you, again, for your interest in Kindle.

OK. Seriously. If it's not "in stock," don't say that it is "in stock" when I place my order.

What's everybody reading on their Kindle? The first book I read was The Princess Bride, and now I'm reading Persuasion from the complete collection of Jane Austen I downloaded. I think I will be reading more classics since I can download them for free. I also have several of my "favorites" that I would love to re-read on the Kindle, but I don't know if I want to spend the money since I already have them in hard copy. Seems kind of silly, but is also so tempting. I really want to read Glenn Beck's The Christmas Sweater on Kindle, but it's not available. I have sent a couple of publisher requests, so hopefully they will make it for Kindle soon. Although, I want to read it before Christmas, so I may just have to break down and buy the book (...and frustrate my DH; "What did we spend the money on the Kindle for?"). ;)

I'm reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, Testimony (the new Anita Shreve) and a couple of non-fiction titles currently. I just finished The Heretic's Daughter. It was excellent - a great story about the Salem witch trials told by a tenth generation descendant of the first woman burned alive as a witch.

I also read Dewey - about a library cat - and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - about a group of people living on the island of Guernsey off the coast of England during WWII. I enjoyed both of them.

Obviously NOT TRUE as people here ordered after me already have theirs and mine only shipped today.

I've had my Kindle since Thursday and have currently downloaded 25 books/samples and read through 4 entire books (The Twilight series) thus far, I think it's safe to say I'm addicted!!!! I keep hearing that you can download books for free, anyone know how that works??? The prices aren't too bad, I even found some of the older titles for only 99 cents, free is better though!

I've had mine since June. LOVE LOVE LOVE it.
I pre-ordered the new Stephen King book... couldn't really remember when it was supposed to come out. I was pleasantly surprised the other day to see "N" by Stephen King on my Kindle....
Read it in a manner of minutes actually and was not very happy with the ending (pissed actually!!). I remarked that I was ticked to DD....
Then today, I get an email confirmation from Amazon that my "order" had been sent.....
You got it.... my "real" Stephen King book :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 Duh.

So I got "N" which is a short story the other day!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: and I thought THAT was the new BOOK....:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Does anyone know how to cancel a subscription? I subscribed to a New Orleans blog, and I am finding that it is clearly targeted to a market much younger than I am! I want to cancel before the 2 week trial is up.

I think you do that from the "Manage Your Kindle" or something similar on the Amazon website.

I couldn't figure out how to do it directly from kindle but when I logged onto amazon; manage account, I was able to cancel subscription that way.

I love this device! Took me around a day to get use to the screen - and I did have to adjust the text size up a notch or two, but I love it! It's more comfortable than holding a book in my hands and for the first time ever, I'm able to read a book in bed while lying down and my hands don't get tired! :thumbsup2

Mine "should" be here tomorrow. I actually expected it today, but no dice. I hate the USPS tracking system. It is pretty much useless.

Mine arrived yesterday but I've been spending too many hours at work and haven't even opened the package yet. :sad1:

I got mine. You know....the free shipping, not a frequent buyer......dagger through the heart....

I find it more comfortable than holding a book too. Its light and I can hold it with one hand. It is also awesome at the gym, no more trying hold the page down while on the elliptical.

Does anyone know if they make better cases for the kindle? I would love something softer or maybe a nice leather case.
