Who feels like a Thread-Killer? Part 2

I just got a phone call from someone who wanted me to donate something. I have call display so I knew who it was. When I answered the phone I held the phone far away and said "Helllloooo" with a little old lady's soft voice and a Mrs Doubtfire accent :teeth:

Kind of confused the poor guy who had a strange accent of his own :p

Usually I will just say no thanks I'm not interested and hang up before they can say anymore. Quite often they will mispronounce our name and I will tell them they have the wrong number!! This time I was bored and felt like playing

I can be so bad some times :rotfl:

Thank you one and all, for all your thoughts, prayers, well wishes, and {{HUGS}}, it was most appreciated. ::yes::

I'll start with good news: :teeth: I received an early BD present this morning, in the school parking lot, from my Mom :goodvibes. She gave me a handmade, are you ready?, are you sure?.....check this thread...... :p http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=470309&highlight=+mickey++wreath

It isn't exactly like those pictured, but you get the idea. ;) It's too big for either of my doors! I don't know where I'm gonna hang it. Don't worry, I'll find a way. ::yes::

Today was kinda BLAH and melancholy. Back to work and school, after one day off from the past week's sadness. Hard to catch up with real life in only one day. :( Then, when I got home, I had both sympathy cards and BD cards in the mail. Bummer. Mom & Dad sent a GC tho, for the local mall, and you KNOW I can use that! ::yes:: I also had the dentist today, which was so-so. They ALL complimented me and congratulated me on the weight loss, and even explained how much easier it is to clean the outside of my teeth (sounds like a horse or something!), with less 'tissue', as she politely put it. :p

The wake was typical, lots of people, coming in and out in bunches. My parents, my Aunt & Uncle, and one of my brothers came, it was very nice of them. Another uncle, who introduced dh & I also came. My uncle is a Chicago cop, and he had worked with dhs brother, so we got a lot of laughs from the 'connection'. ;)

The funeral was like something I've never seen before. We started at the funeral home, just briefly, and headed for the church. During the service, 4 of the 6 brothers went up, together, and spoke individually. The first read lyrics from a song he played for his Mom after she first became ill. It was positively beautiful. The next was nothing to write about. Then, my husband recited a poem written by my MILs favorite author. All I can say is that I couldn't understand him too well (bad sound in the church), but I did hear COCKROACH......you figure it out.  And the last brother spoke briefly, and then SANG a song. I'm telling you, not a dry eye!!

And, just to give an example of the love my MIL shared with those around her....one of the brother's EX-wife also sang about 4 songs during the service. She has a lovely voice, and she's quite a lovely person I might add, for doing that.

While the kids & I stayed home yesterday, my husband went to his Dad's again, for a farewell lunch for the remaining siblings. He came home with a small box for me, which contained a pin and matching earrings of my MIL. All the sons got to take something for their spouse/daughter. I'm saving it for my DD, even though she already got something separate. ;)

My SIL and I were asked to help my FIL with the Thank-yous, which he would like to go out this week, so we'll be headed back there to do that, and check up on him, too. ;)

Given all the messed up days and nights, and eating at odd times, and eating nothing Good, and seemingly eating (and drinking) all the time (not that we did though), I only gained 1 lb. That's not bad, really. It's ok.

So, it's back to regular life now, and getting back to thread killing!!!! :teeth:

Thank you ALL, once again, you've been a great comfort to me. :grouphug: I just don't know of a greater group of friends to have gone through this with me.

YOUR friend,
Kim

Ooooo, nice birthday gift from your mom Kim. :D

Do you have a bare wall outside that maybe you can hang it on if it does not fit on the doors??

It sounds like there was a very nice service for your Mother in Law. Times like that are so emotionally draining and leave you just exhausted, don't they?

COCKROACH?!?!?!? Hmm, that sounds like an interesting poem

Glad to have you back trying to kill threads with us again :teeth:

It's great to BE back also, Robin. Thanks for everything.

Don't really have a bare wall, except those under the windows, out of sight. The LR picture window/slider wasn't wide enough, but maybe the kitchen picture window/slider will be! Didn't try it there yet. The kitchen also faces the front of the house, weird but true. ;)

Draining and exhausted?..........Perfect explanation. ::yes:: I wasn't physically exhausted, but emotionally, for sure. Although we shared more laughs than tears, even though there were a LOT of tears with this BIG family, they also have a GREAT sense of humor! (Almost morbid sometimes  , but funny):D

I have GOT to ask my husband about that poem again, and post it when I find it. ::yes::

In case anyone cares, my MILs obit:

Mary P. Raye

Mary P. Raye, beloved wife of Jan; loving mother of Glenn (Debbie), Judi (John) McLain, Lewis (Mary), Martin (Kim), Gregory, Vincent (Bobbi), Carol (Mark) Nykaza and Steven (Deb) Raye; devoted grandmother of 18; and great-grandmother of 12; dear daughter of the late Michael and Mae Donovan; fond sister of Jack (Marian) Donovan and the late William (Beverly) Donovan. Visitation Friday 3 to 9 p.m. Funeral Saturday 9:30 a.m. from Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 N. Milwaukee Ave, to St. Cornelius Church. Mass 10 a.m. 773-774-4100.
Published in the Chicago Tribune on 10/15/2004.

We later counted 19 grandchildren, but, oh well. :o

The kitchen facing the front of the house is not so weird Kim. The house we lived in before this one had the kitchen in the front also. The livingroom was in the back of the house. It was kind of strange a 4 level split house. 3 bedrooms, bath, living room upstairs. Kitchen, diningroom on main level. Bedroom/office, laundry, family room on lower level and then an unfinished basement level below the kitchen/diningroom level. Very nice house, it was brand new when we moved in, but laid out differently that is for sure!!!

Laughter is a great thing. Even in sad times laughter /humour can poke it's way in and make things brighter for even just a small moment. I always say if we can't laugh, then we have to cry and laughing is just so much better ::yes::

Thanks for sharing the obituary Kim. Of course we care!!

I see your FIL's name is Jan. Is it pronounced like the Jan on the Brady Bunch???? My FIL's name is Jan too but it is pronounced in the Dutch way, (sounds like yawn). He goes by John but his name is still legally Jan.

They have a nice large family. It must make for some lively family get togethers to have that many people.

We have a total of 13 on my side and 7 on my husband's side, so pretty tiny compared to yours.

Ok, I woke him up and asked....

Again, it was just one of the poems my MIL liked by this guy:

Death Of A Cockroach
Robert Service
I opened wide the bath-room door,
And all at once switched on the light,
When moving swift across the floor
I saw a streak of ebon bright:
Then quick, with slipper in my hand,
Before it could escape,—I slammed.
I missed it once, I missed it twice,
But got it ere it gained its lair.
I fear my words were far from nice,
Though d——s with me are rather rare:
Then lo! I thought that dying roach
Regarded me with some reproach.

Said I: "Don't think I grudge you breath;
I hate to spill your greenish gore,
But why did you invite your death
By straying on my bath-room floor?"
"It is because," said he (or she),
"Adventure is my destiny.

"By evolution I was planned,
And marvellously made as you;
And I am led to understand
The selfsame God conceived us two:
Sire, though the coup de grâce you give,
Even a roach has right to live."

Said I: "Of course you have a right,—
But not to blot my bath-room floor.
Yet though with slipper I may smite,
Your doom I morally deplore . . .
From cellar gloom to stellar space
Let bards and beetles have their place.

shrugs

I will get the lyrics to the song that was read, and the lyrics to the song that was sung, from my SIL, and post those too.

Robin, that house sounds beeee-a-utiful! Soo big, too!

Ok, 'humour', cracked me up! I know BP will LOL, too! But, you're right, laughter IS the best medicine.

Jan, as in Brady, yup. ::yes:: Even though I think FIL is also Dutch, he goes by Jan.

I'm used to BIG families. My Mom is one of 9, my husband one of 8, and my Dad one of 7. Loads of Aunts, Uncles, cousins, 2nd cousins, 3rd cousins, cousins once removed, twice removed (whatever).....the list goes on. We all just usually say, "We're related"! :teeth: I myself, only have 2 younger brothers.

Well, I need to visit WW online before I hit the hay, and email my SIL for those song titles, so G'nite my friends, see ya tomorrow. :sunny:

GOOD MORNING ALL!
Kim,:wave2:
Its good to see you back. You were missed here.
DalPal - here's my theory on you.....I have lots of theories (ask Cruisin)........do you have a farm? It sounds charming, like what you'd read in a magazine.
Hollyann,
Wow, I feel so honored! I get to be the subject of one of your theorys:sunny: I now feel like I am officially part of the TKs.::yes::
I only have two horses, and three dogs. I lease the horses from a summer camp for 10 months. It only costs me there upkeep(feed and bedding). It works out for me, because I get to ride in the best of the seasons and then they go to camp for two months in the summer. Thats when we go to WDW, so we only have to get some one to take care of my dogs . I guess if you wanted to call this a farm, you could. With my family it more like the "funny farm". I made chicken soup too. I always have to freeze most of mine though. I make a BIG stock pot full. But it comes in handy after a day with the kids, playing in the s***(I cant say it )this winter.
NO BP! Not the stinky stuff ......the COLD stuff!
Cruisin'Kroezes,
I hate it when I get those calls. I just cant understand them, because of there accent. I know they are trying to make a living too, but you would think that if these people want to sell something that they would get someone you can understand to harass you . Sorry....its a pet teeve of mine. Ill have to try the "old lady trick"
Another long post.....Sorry!
Have a great day guys
Betsy

These are "my" horses. The white is "Dakar" and the bay is "Alf"

f69505f7.jpg

They are both close to 20YO. Dakar has cancer, but you wouldnt know to look at him. I prefer to ride Dakar, but they are both nice rides.
My dals are on
"Monty Dog's DIS Dogs Party (pics/sound/large files)"thread.
Its has alot of really cute dogs.

Good Morning everyone!

Kiiimmmm - SO glad to see you. We missed you so very much. It's tough to get through the days following a loss - nice you had such a supportive family! You've been in our prayers

DalPal - no farm? I just figured you had one! I'm never right on these theories - except for BP - I just KNOW he's Santa!

Cruisin - I swear, you are the nicest person on the planet. I'm sorry I didn't get on-line last night to post with you & Kim. Your words are so wise and such a comfort. We're lucky to have you!

Howdy-do to everyone else! I've got to scoot. I voted early today, got my hair cut, we had lunch and I've got to get some stuff done for Bunco tomorrow. Take care!

Ooh, ooh, a smilie :sunny:

Hmm, interesting poem Kim. Your MIL's sense of humour shows in that for sure.

Wow you have a big family. I have a fairly large extended family of first, second, third cousins etc. My grandmother on my mom's side had 14 in her family, her husband had a lot too(don't remember how many right now) My dad's side had 7 or 8 on both side too. So I feel like I am somehow related to half of the town :p

Nice horses Dalpal. I am not a horse person but my daughter takes riding lessons and loves horses. They scare me ::yes::

The nicest person on the plant ????? Hollyann, I hardly think so ;) I can get you some signed affidavits of how not nice I am if you would like ::yes:: I do try to be nice MOST of the time though. :D

Now all of this talk about chicken soup, I may just have to go and make some!!!!

Hey Brer_Papa, hope you are having a :sunny: day.

Wishing the same :sunny: to anybody else who happens to be reading the thread killers today!!!

A favourite poem of mine:

There are too many kids in this tub.........
There are too many elbows to scrub.............
I just washed a behind ................
That I'm SURE wasn't mine  ................
There are too many kids in this tub :teeth:

It comes from one of the Shel Silverstein collections of children's poems and I think it is cute :p

Hollyann,
You know Ive heard rumors about that and BP........Do you really think its true?:scratchin , Because if it is........I would like to ask him if I can have a DVC for christmas this year.:teeth: My DH told me if I wanted a DVC for christmas to ask santa, because I sure wont be getting it from him.He was thinking along the lines of a new Digital camera. LOL

Wow I really love this poem. I am going to write it down to try to remember it. My dad made a limerrick up for each of us five kids when I was small. I have loved them ever since. Funny thing is I can remember the ones for my sisters but not mine.

Cruisin - I LOVE Shel Silverstein! I was very saddened when he died. Did you know he used to write for Playboy magazine BEFORE he was a childrens poet? My favorite story of his was "The Giving Tree". I have that book and "Where the Sidewalk Ends". I keep saying I'm going to get "Light in the Attic" but I haven't yet!

DalPal - I'm with Cruisin.....sorry I didn't mention it. The horses are beautiful. I'm also somewhat afraid of horses. Every time I go riding they just don't listen to me! I never thought of sending my Christmas wish list to Santa/BrerPapa! Good idea! DVC sounds divine!

The house is clean, clean, CLEAN! I've still got stuff to do for Bunco, but I'm down to the fun stuff. Setting up, making the cards, doing the heavy appetizers. I'm making chicken nuggets, spinach dip in a bread bowl (zucchini slices instead of bread/crackers for the low-carbers), fruit, deviled eggs, marinated fresh mozarella with tomatoes and two cheese cakes for dessert - regular and sugar free!

Tonight I'm making Buffalo Wings for dinner. They just sounded good. I make GOOD wings! So, if ya'll are in the mood - come on over and I'll make some more!

C-Ya!

Good evening everyone! Hope everyone had a good day.

Dalpal...your horses are beautiful. I miss my guys so much! Do you ride western or english? I used to ride english, mainly hunter/jumper and dressage. I rode in the collegiate Nationals back in the early 90's. Our whole team got to fly down to Lexington, Kentucky and boy was that an experience. Some of those horses live better than people I know! LOL!! There's just something about horses that gets in your blood. My favorite thing was to go bareback riding then as I was cooling down the horse I would lay on his back and watch the clouds. I also loved giving them hugs and just smelling them! Okay, snapping back to reality now. Is there anything you can do about cancer in a horse? Sorry to hear about Dakar. I'll send a little prayer for him.

HollyAnn, I'd come over but you're just a little too far away. Besides, the weather has me retreated indoors!! :(

Hey cruisin'! How's it going? Cute poem....I'll have to jot that one down for on the fridge!

It's so quiet, hum...who could be missing?!? ;)

I have started a Christmas wish list too this year. I usually don't bother and just tell people I don't really want anything but this year I decided when I think of things I will write them down.

Maybe I should pass along my list to Santa too ::yes::

Dalpal, maybe if you asked your sisters they would remember YOUR limerick for you!! It is worth a try.

Ann, we have 3 of Shel Silverstein's books, my Brother in law bought them for the kids when they were little. They are keepers that's for sure.

I would love to come over to visit Ann, but I am definitely NOT a wings fan  Just not my kind of stuff. Now some of the things on the menu for tomorrow night capture my attention;)

Hi luckymommy:wave2:

Wendy, MaMudduck, if you are lurking around here today ......... Please check your PM's.

Thanks :sunny:
