Who feels like a Thread-Killer? Part 2

Hi everyone! I'm still here in Tennessee! I haven't read any of the posts - our hosts have dial-up and it takes a while to load a page.....I'll do that when I get home.

I've been in (constant) contact with dear hubby. We had some Hurricane Frances damage. We lost both of our trees. Ours were too small to fall on the house - only about 15 feet high. Our neighbor did have a tree fall on her house. Our DD's neighbor had a mature tree snap and fall. No flooding in our area and we were very lucky with tornadoes. Several touched down around us, but we weren't in any paths.

Now all eyes turn to Ivan. DD and I are going to head home. We're debating tomorrow or waiting til Thursday since Tue & Wed are going to get the remnants of Frances and lots of rain. We'll have to see.

Anyway, I just wanted to post and say hello. I'll catch up on all the posts when I get home. I am NOT going to separate from hubby for another hurricane! I'd rather face the damages with him then be perfectly safe without him. It's been awful separated from him.

Well, folks, I'll go for now. Ya'll take care and I'll chat with you again soon. It probably won't be til Friday or Saturday.

Miss you! Hollyann

ETA: Hubby took a ride around the neighborhood and said there were LOTS of downed trees and fences. Big mess, lots of clean up- but (so far) no major damage. He hasn't gone out to check the businesses. He just got electricity on after 12 hours off and said there were electricity guys all over the place repairing. He scooted home and put the coffee on right away!

  Ann :wave2:

Nice to hear from you!!!!!

Glad to hear that your house has survived and that Tom and your Son-in-law made it through all right!!

Too bad about the trees but better the trees than the house.

I am very hopeful that Ivan is going to take a different course and leave Florida alone ::yes::

Have a safe trip home, will talk to you when you get back.

Helllllllllllllooooooooooooooo??????? (echo, echo) Anybody home??? (echo, echo)

:wave2: everyone!!

Thanks so much for posting Ann!! Glad your family is ALL safe!!!

Does anyone here know how long WDW was closed, if at all? Somehow I seem to have missed all that info. :(

The Cubs game today was great, partly because they won. :teeth: It was another home-run slug-fest, and Sammy Sosa didn't even play! ::yes:: I let my SIL's friend, visiting from NC, have my 2nd ticket, and she was soo excited, THAT made it enjoyable as well! She asked me how much she owed me for the ticket, and I said, nothing. I think she was shocked. ;) Ended up an all-girl group today, which was ok. ;)

I start back to work tomorrow. I have butterflies. :o

 Well, it is back to reality tomorrow, school starts, summer is pretty much over :(

What kind of work do you do Kim? What kind of hours is it? It sounds like you had fun at the ball game.

Had a good barbecue with the family today at my parent's house. I have a couple of pictures to post from this afternoon.

My daughter had auditions for a competitive dance team tonight. She made the team, of which there really was not much doubt that she would because she danced with the teacher as a peer all summer long.

Okay family picture time. This is my family. My two brothers are in the back, one with dark hair and mustache/beard is John and the other with reddish hair and long beard is Bill. Then there are my brother John's kids, Jessica, Jonathan (in front of him) and Jillian sitting with the dog and all of that lovely hair :p. My brother Bill has David to his left and Blake to his right. Then my parents in the middle. And my family, Rick, Alex, me in front and Liz sitting on the ground with the dog. Unfortunately I was sitting in a patch of sunlight and was pretty much washed out :p . Oh well everybody else looks good ::yes::

And here is one of the grandchildren, I thought was pretty cool too.

GREAT pictures, Robin!! I love seeing 'people' on the boards! :teeth: Thanks for sharing your family with us! ;)

Well, school started 1-1/2 weeks ago, so that's when MY summer ended. :( Tomorrow is the reality part - back to work. I work part-time, totally school-hour/day based. When my kids are off, I'm off. DD starts at 8:20, I start at 9. DD gets off at 3, I get off at 2:30. When they're out of school, I'm off, including Christmas break, Easter break, spring break, you name it. All school holidays, I'm off. DS's schedule doesn't always affect my day tho, since he's old enough to stay home by himself....rats! ;) I have a wonderful boss, who knew all these terms before I started, and last year it seemed to work good enough, that he wanted me back this year as well. FINE by me!!! :teeth: He's a lawyer, I'm his assistant. We do real estate law, buying & selling houses. We work very well together, as we should, since we first worked together 17 years ago, but we just got together again last year. I still have butterflies tho. Go figure. Last year was even WORSE, since I hadn't worked at all in almost 6 years!! I'll be fine, once I get there. ;)

Congrats to your DD!!!! She must be really good! :cool1: How exciting!!! :hyper:

It sounds like you have a perfect job, Kim. Work when the kids are in school and have all holidays off. Can't get much better than that can you!

I am sure that you will get back into it really quickly.

I hear that A LOT!!!!! ;) :p :teeth: :sunny: DISers have even PMd me to ask where I work! ::yes:: I don't have any 'benefits', except what I already stated ;), but dh's job covers us insurance-wise. My boss is also quite generous with bonuses, heck, he gave me one when I left!! :faint:

I have a good job too.

I come and go as I please. I generally don't work when the kids are not in school either and mine are pretty much grown up!!! I take most of the summers off and all school holidays too. I make my own hours, as long as the work gets done that is all that matters. I have benefits too.

I say to myself .......... "Boss, do I have to go to work today???" and the boss in me answers ............. "Nope I don't think that you will be needed today!!" :p

Honestly though, some weeks I will work quite a few hours and others hardly any at all. Just depends on what is happening. I could go and answer the phone but it is always for my husband so it is just easier if he answers it himself ::yes::

I am extremely lucky to be able to do this, I know not everyone has that option. :D

Well I guess I should try and get some sleep since I have to get up in the morning to try and pry the daughter out of bed;) .

School starts at 8 this year instead of 9, so it might be interesting!

Have a good first day back at work Kim!

Okay where is everybody else tonight

Hope everyone had a great long weekend!

Good morning all! I've been having such problems with this site the last several day--mostly server busy--so I just gave up.

Ann, happy to hear your family and your house are all safe. It must have been hard being seperated from DH during that time. Have a safe trip back!

Morning Robin...it's good to put a face with a name! Thanks for sharing!!

Kim, like others said, it sounds like you have a great job! I think I have my hands full and enough work with my two little ones!!

BP...where are you?! Have you heard from your wife and son? My best friend in W Palm Beach finally got through to me yesterday late afternoon. She was down in Miami on her cell phone because she couldn't get a signal up at her home! She didn't evacuate (will remember to ring her neck the next time I see her  ) but stayed safe. She said she was never so scared in her life and will definitely evacuate the next time.

Have a wonderful day!! I need to go run some errands soon! Check ya' later!! :D :wave2:

Good morning everyone!!

I'm just popping in to say HI!, from work. Can you believe my boss won't even be IN today! I'm here all alone. :( Not that he didn't leave me some work, though. ;) So, back to work I guess. Not bad, 3 hours left. :teeth:

 Hi everyone.

Woke up this morning to a soaking wet longhaired cat on my bed wanting attention. My husband let her in when he left and it was raining outside. Thank goodness it was raining because I was wondering if she had been pond-swimming again! ;)

The rain is gone now and the :sunny: is shining again

Got my daughter to school on time, but not before we had the normal morning argument about her getting up and me not lecturing her  and her needing to learn to be responsible for getting to school on time!

Speaking of, she just called now and wants me to go and pick her up because she is done already.

Have a good day and I will check back in later.

Glad your first day of work is not too hectic Kim!!!!

Okay, where is everybody tonight:confused:

You guys leave me alone too long and I will have to sing :teeth: :rolleyes1

You wouldn't want that to happen now would you??????????????

Anybody know how to post polls??????? I volunteered to post one of MeanLaureen's polls while she is gone on vacation and I don't have the first clue how to do it :p

Guess I should have thought about that before I volunteered  . Oh well, I have till the middle of next week to figure it out ::yes::

Oh, while I am asking questions ............. Does anybody have a good poll topic :chat:

I think you have to go through the motions of the thread, just like you normally do, and AFTER you submit the thread, it asks if you selected to post a poll, and THEN you post the poll. So, I'm guessing, you have to click on some box in the first step, in order to achieve the Poll part in the 2nd step. I've never done one though, don't trust me. :o

Poll ideas? I imagine there are a ton of ideas, and since MeanLaureen titles her thread "Useless", you could post ANYTHING! :p

How about a poll about ungrateful, spoiled rotten children, who won't listen to their parents, who don't appreciate what we do and provide for them and only want to argue. Who think they are always right and should be able to do what they want to do whenever they want to do it. Kids who expect that they can grouch (not exactly the word I want to use!) at you and you should just accept it and cause their parents to have sleepless nights. etc. etc. etc. etc. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

I guess you are right ............. not very good poll material

Okay, now maybe I can TRY to go back to sleep.

How 'bout a poll to see how many people (honestly) have ever lurked on this thread without posting!! ;) :D :teeth: ::yes::
