Who else would appreciate a pet-friendly DVC property?

As much as I love my dogs (Bernie - Springer Spaniel, and Cody - Black Lab) - I dont think it would ever happen, and I dont think it is a great idea.

1. People allergic to animals might have issues staying in a room after a pet had been there.

2. Accidents DO happen

3. Pets can/are annoying to people who dont like animals

I am sure there are plenty of other reasons, but this was just quick. I love my dogs, but have no problem leaving them home. Lucky for us we usually dont have to board them as a friend or relative will usually stay at our house while we are out of town.

OKW would be the first pick to convert to a pet friendly DVC given the parking right outside the rooms. Perhaps given the interest, that would be a good idea. I think many people take thier pets thier any way. As long as they police the grounds after thier pet.........

Not my OKW. It's my primary home and I wouldn't like someone else's pet raising my maintenance fees.

Like I said before, I love my dog, but she's staying at the vet's.

Well ..... that's not really my point or what I'm trying to say. Of all the current DVC resorts, if any of them were to become "pet friendly", wouldn't OKW and an additional new phase of SSR be the most feasable? Perhaps a new SSR phase is the most reasonable, people could buy in knowing that it is pet friendly. Seems to me they would make more sense than BWV, BCV, or WLV. That's my point. If ANY were to become pet friendly, which would be the most feasable......

I would love to take my furrbaby, Tink (pom) with us on our trip.

I just saw that Loewes (Sp?) at Universal allows pets!!!!

I may have to rethink some of my stays.

Our little ones are like our children (now that our real children are grown). Having said that, I DON'T want a pet-friendly DVC. Just like Mom and Dad needed some quality time away from the children sometimes, DH and I need our vacation time alone. I'll bet that if there was a pet-friendly DVC, DH would be the first one to bring his "baby" Tigger. Maybe I sound a little jealous here, but I really think it's good for us to have some "quality time" alone, without sharing our bed with a purring cat!

1) I do not want a pet-friendly DVC.
2) That is why they invented vets and pet kennels
3) We either board our pets or have neighbors tend to them
4) WDW already has kennels for people who bring pets.
5) The WDW kennels are inexpensive and well kept.

6) I do not want my DVC room dues to pay for
. . . pet accidents
. . . pet chew marks on furniture
. . . pet chewed or worn bedding or sheets
. . . per chewed or worn furniture coverings
. . . pet hair cleaning for allergic members

If DVC goes pet friendly it gets sold. We do not allow furry pets in our home and when we go to our families houses they remove the animals from the house while we visit. Our 3 year old is deathly afraid of dogs. I am highly allergic to pet dandur cat and dog and bird feathers etc. So I highly doubt this will ever happen especially with the kennel at WDW and glad to say we have never had to worry about it.

DVC was initiated for people not animals.........it is absurd to think otherwise.

Technically people are animals, human animals, but animals nonetheless.

Anyway I am willing to bet that hotels have more problems with human beings making a mess, stealing, getting drunk and loud, etc. than any problems pets make. In fact here is a quote I have read before, it's from a pet friendly hotel:

"We never had a pet that smoked in bed and set fire to the blankets.

We never had a pet that stole our towels, played the TV loud or had a noisy fight.

We never had a pet that got drunk & broke up the furniture.

So...if your pet can vouch for you, you're welcome too."

Also, I really think it's preferrable not to use judgemental words like "absurd" when referring to another person's posts. I think you owe the OP an apology. We can agree, we can disagree, but these boards are not the place to attack anyone's opinions/thoughts.

Not attacking anyone. We even have a dog(Cairn terrier)......I stand by my post. DVC was NOT intended for dogs.....it was meant for families(human beings).

I see no reason for name calling. Stating your opinion that DVC is not meant for dogs is perfectly fine, and I believe you didn't mean to attack anyone. But when you say something someone said is "absurd" it sounds like a personal attack to me.

And to clarify - I'd have no problems if Disney opened a pet-friendly wing / set of rooms in a WDW resort: heck, maybe it's time to build All-Star Pets! It's just that DVC is different - there's an ownership issue, and a MF issue as well as the idea that, for many people, a pet-friendly room is effectively unusable by them (due to allergies, etc).

And as much as I believe in Magic and Pixie Dust, I also have to believe that if Disney thought there were enough people interested in it - and willing to pay - there'd be some pet-friendly option on-site.

Before I begin let me take role call.........

Tyler (Standard poodle 13 years)
Gertie (Chihuahua 13 years)
Theo (Doberman 7 years - deceased March 10,2003)
Joy (DLH kitty 6 years)
Peach (DHL 4 years AKA PKITTY)
Haku (Ferret 1 year)
Chahiro (Ferret 1 year)
Herbie (Red Footed Tortoise 5 months old)
Gungey (Fish)
Fat Blackie (black goldfish)
Destiny (5 year old Paint mare with Mickey on her side...literally)

Despite all this I would agree with the vast majority when I say that I would not be in favour of having pets at my DVC. I have alot of pets and alot of arrangements to make as well as expense but I know that they are all safe and sound in comfortable surroundings while we are gone. I would like to see Disney provide a kenneling facility that is more convenient for those who would like to bring there pets with them like on the
DVC grounds possibly. This might be an option. Leaving your pets behind can be difficult.....we know...our Doberman Theo died last year 6 hours after we arrived back home for WDW. We arrived home at 4 AM to an urgent message from our dog sitter that Theo was in the emergency clinic. He had collapsed and she had rushed him over. We had to make some decisions...he had surgery only to find out during his exploratory that he had liver cancer...we chose not to wake him up. the one thing I take away from that experience is that he was with a caring friend and literally had the time of his life at her farm, running and playing with her dogs and his constant companion of the previous 7 years, Tyler. I feel he waited for us to come home to see him that one last time and we did. If we had been travelling with him I'am not sure what we could have done...it may have been worse for him in the end. He showed no symptoms so whose to say. I do feel that our pets are more comfortable staying at home or with people whom they are familiar with. We have to scatter them all over ferrets to one friend who knows how to care for them....poodle to our dog sitter...chihuahua to granny and grampies house (she loves them and she's sensitive)...cats stay at home Grampy checks on them along with the fish, Tortoise is just a baby so he will go to the reptile place where we bought him (he's sensitive too) and our horse stays put at the stables with a 24 hour number on her stall in case of emergency. it takes us a full day of chauffering to get this all done...believe me we earn our vacation!!!

Just my thoughts!:cat: PKITTY

Wouldn't bother me a bit to have a pet-friendly hotel or hotel wing. Of course, they'd have to not use it for folks who might be allergic to pet dander, but that's the same as smoking/non-smoking, and we live with that. I daresay, most people's pets are probably generally less annoying than most people themselves or their kids. I have been in DVC rooms where there have been crayoin and marker karks on the furniture and walls, spots on the rugs, nicked furniture, smoking odor in on-smoking rooms, missing kitchen utensils etc. People can do as much(and probably more)damage than my dog could ever dream of doing.

There's not really one good argument I can think of against pet-friendly that I couldn't find an equally compelling human behavior for. Pet friendly hotels are just not common, and therefore not accepted, unless the animal is a service animal. Come to think of it, with the degree of handicapped accessibility at WDW, I imagine that many of us have probably stayed in a room where an animal has been. Funny how there have been no known occurences of horrific health problems at WDW due to "allergies" to pet dander.

sell you DVC membership - go buy a camper with airconditioner - then start staying at the FW campground places that are pet friendly. then everyone is happy.

Since I mainly stay at OKW - I think the kennel at FW is pretty convenient - so for that matter is Epcot - but at Epcot I have to walk longer than at FW (most of the time).

Spicey is very familiar with this place - and he walks into the room by himself and would just jump in the cage if I let him.

He is fine here!

I need him with me - because of me - not him.....

the other two cats stay at home - if I am going for week or longer I get a pet sitter to come back and pet one of them - he is a very strange animal....If I am going to be gone 5 days or less - he is fine at home - I give them enough food and water for a month - and there are 4 litter boxes. One is the automatic type his favorite.

I have recently start to try to get timeshares that allow pets - so Spicey will feel more welcome!!! (this is not with my DVC but my others)

All Loews' hotels are pet friendly. But I don't know how they handle them. Do they limit size, require papers, have certain rooms, etc? I would vote no and in fact many hotels that were previously pet friendly have changed due to maint and complaints. It used to be easy to find Hampton Inn's that were and now it's difficult. I can think of at least 5 hotels that we have stayed at that were previously pet friendly and now are not.

I always keep Spicey's papers with me - Loews' asked for nothing...I didn't like that myself - I want others people animals to up to date on their shots.....

we were given written letters saying that lots of people don't like animals - some animal lovers would not believe that....

I think someone else say that their were certain rooms - but I don't know if that is true - Spicey was the only animal we saw in the building we were in....there were a couple of dogs but they were in another building.

this was Spicey first 4 star hotel - after the first few minutes he loved it....had a ball....the staff here is very pet friendly and so was everyone else (thanks Goodness) - when I was walking him - parents were coming up to me all the time because their kids wanted to pet him - he put up with for a little while - but he wanted to walk....

Personally, I wouldn't be too crazy about a resort that allowed pets. I definitely wouldn't stay at it, however, I am sure there are many people that would.

I believe WDW accommodates people with pets by having the kennels. I would imagine some of the reasons they don't allow pets in the resorts are: pet accidents that leave odors, pets that chew, pets that scratch walls, furniture & rugs, pet waste that owners don't pick up outside, pets that bark all day while their owners are out, pets that bark, allergies of other guests, the possibility of a law suit against Disney if someone is bitten by another guests pet, etc.

I understand that not all pets will do damage & be noisy but there are many that do & I think WDW can keep some of their maintenance costs down by letting pets be housed in the kennels instead of in the resort rooms.
