1st year for us (6th grade at that :crazy2:) and looking to connect with some other Disney-crazed home school families to exchange ideas....anyone have any good free sites for curriculum?

We home school our kiddos and have been at since our 9 year old was in preschool. This year we will have a 4th, 1st, and preschooler. Plus we have two two year olds. It is a fun and busy house. We have been going to Disney for years and would fall in the Disney-crazed category (more so DW than me, but I enjoy it too). We are now in the process of buying into DVC at SSR. Hopefully, all will be finalized to take our trip in September.

I will let my wife know about this tread. She will have a lot more info for you than I do.

We are starting the school year in just over two weeks. How about you guys? Good luck this year!

This is our last year of it (man time flies!). First, make sure you know the laws of your state. Second, relax and have fun. Khan Academy is a great place to check out and bookmark, even though some of the material is for higher grades some of it can be useful now. The other site I send folks to is A to Z Homeschool http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/ as this site has links to curriculum, state resources, support groups and just about everything else.

:welcome: This is our 3rd year with a 6th and 8th grader! You might want to check out the family board! They have a thread dedicated to all us Disney Loving hser out there! They may be able to answer your questions better!

Hey!! This is our 5th year homeschooling. I have a 9 year old and a 17yr old.

:wave2::flower3:

It would help if you described what you are looking for. Such as, are you a religious homeschooler or a secular homeschooler?

You can be religious and still be a secular homeschooler. It just means do you want your curriculum to be religious or not.

Good luck and have fun!!!

:wave2: We are hs'ers too. We just began our 8th year. I have a 7th, 4th, preK & 1yo. We stay busy but have a blast. I truly love, love hs'ing and have never regretted going this route. I don't use any free curriculum but I certainly supplement our studies with a lot of things online. If you have any specific questions, I can try to help and answer too.

Us! This is my 4th year for my son (5th grader). I can't believe it's been 4 years! I think I have also convinced DH to bring my daughter (7th) home this year. I also have a 4 yo who will go to preschool 3x a week. Next year he will be homeschooled.

We've been homeschooling since DD was 2 - she's now 12!

Do you have a homeschooling store in your area that sells 'used' homeschooling materials?

Another homeschooling family here. My dd is going into 2nd grade and my son will begin his pre-k year. That should be an adventure! :) The family room thread is a great resource for homeschooling!

We're starting homeschooling pre-k this year!! I am scared out of my mind!!!!! (I know my dd will be fine and she really WANTS to be homeschooled, but I am worried about my own lack of follow-through and discipline!!!)

I have a rising second grader and a preschooler. I am amazed at how much the preschooler picks up from her sister's lessons.

We've homeschooled since the beginning. It's great for your Disney budget. You can go in the off season!

I'm able to buy whatever curriculum I choose, but I use Ambleside Online, which is somewhat free. You do have to get the suggested books, but a lot of them are available for free online. I don't like to read off a computer, but with a Kindle or other e-reader, you can get most of the books for nothing. And you might be able to check the newer ones out of the library.

My kids went to preschool, but I've homeschooled both of them from Kindergarten on. They are in 6th and 4th now. We love homeschooling!! Hope you enjoy it as well! :thumbsup2

We (ds,dil, and me dgm)are considering hs for 4 year old gs. We are so worried about it, too!! He would probably love going to school to be with all the kids but he has a low immunity and we are very concerned about that. More worried about our discipline than anything!! Please post how you are preparing and how it works out.

Meme- Let me know if you decide to undertake this journey! It would be great to have mutual support from someone starting out in the same place!

I know my dd would LOVE being with the other kids in preschool, but she will have plenty of interaction with kids outside of that. She has been to a preschool setting many times (picking her friend up from pre-K) so she knows what it is. Makes me feel better about keeping her home since she has seen it and still wants to be homeschooled. (We'll see what she thinks of it in a few months!!!)

We set up a room to do work in to begin with (My dd will do better with a dedicated space) and ordered a pre-packaged curriculum with support from the school. They sent us lesson plans and all the materials. I am hoping that makes it a little easier and less overwhelming until I am more disciplined and in the swing of things. We are going through Seton Homeschool which is Catholic, but there are many similar organizations that are secular or generalized Christian that offer the same thing if you search online. I thought I may be held more accountable going through a place for the first year.

My hardest obstacle is overcoming the "institutional" mindset of what school should be as homeschooling is different and that is one of the reasons we are doing it as well as being lazy and using the "it's only preschool" excuse to just keep skipping doing it! (I have a VERY active 20 mo old who doesn't take long naps so he provides me with many excuses!) If anyone has tips in that area I would be open to hearing them!
