Who else finds the value resorts completely unappealing?

:sad2: I'm, quite frankly, very disapointed in the "Lets see who we can try to humiliate" threads related to different resorts, and the "TYPE" of people who choose to stay where.

Well, I don't see that as the OP's intent at all.

Everyone has their own preferences, budgets, and favorite resorts. Why must people give there opinions on resorts, that they won't ever stay at. Maybe I'm the only one who would rather read reports, by people who have actually been to a certain resort.

If someone enjoys the value resorts why would you even open the thread :confused3 If you don't like the topic - MOVE ON!!!!!

I personally don't open trip report threads regarding the values often because they just don't appeal to me. It has nothing to do with the type of people who stay there, how much $$$ they may or may not make, etc. Those are things that I don't have any knowledge of. I base my selection of a resort on the decor and the ammenities and what they mean for MY FAMILY.

Why must every discussion of a resort turn into people feeling put down for staying in a value or being called a snob for staying in a deluxe no matter what the intention of the OP was. Now that makes me :sad2:

I think that it is all a matter of personal opinion. DH and I don't have children, and we simply prefer subdued elegance over bright and oversized. We also don't like the outside rooms. We're staying at POR this fall, and I dread it so badly. We'd prefer to stay deluxe, or we stay at the Hilton at DTD (I usually get it for about $60 through Priceline...not too shabby)

That being said, however, I'm not crazy about ANY of the room decor at ANY resort in WDW. I think it's all rather loud and garish. I had high hopes for AKL, and when I saw that green and orange and pinkish colored bedspread...I wanted to vomit. Same thing with Grand Floridian and I've seen a room at the Beach Club...I think all the "decor" is rather schizophrenically thrown together...odd colors, patterns, etc. It doesn't look eclectic, but tacky, to me. We stayed at CSR last year for one night and I hated the loud colors there too.

I infinitely prefer the theming of the rooms at Universal Resorts. I also CANNOT wait for the new Contemporary Rooms. Those pictures...my idea of hotel heaven...seriously. They look SO swanky and plush. I am saving money now for next years' trip!

No brainer for me...
I'll take the top picture anyday. I can't believe the number of responses to this thread. I truly believe that Walt created his parks for everyone, regardless of their background, race, income, or anything else you choose to compare people with. I feel very insulted by many of the comments on this thread, as my family and I truly love the value resorts. I could very easily start a thread stating how tacky the deluxe resorts are, and I can't see how anyone would ever want to stay there, but I won't. I just had to vent having stared at this post and watched it grow most of this week. Sorry for getting so upset. :sad2:

Of the places I have stayed :
I thought the rooms at Pop Century were cute. :)
I thought the rooms at AKL were neat, kinda dark and exotic
I love the grounds at POR & POFQ but the rooms are kind of bland.
The old CR rooms were okay, kind of boring, the new ones look neat
and
The rooms at the Poly were fun

I completely agree. I think its wonderful to start a thread about how great you think your value, moderate, etc. choice of hotel is, but to start one to BASH another kind of hotel and the people that stay there is not very fair. It can hurt people's feelings and I felt as though the OP thinks less of people who stay at value. Am I a tacky person because I like the huge icons? I don't think so. :flower:

As far as I have read, no one has made a single comment about people who prefer the Value resorts. What people HAVE commented on was their personal likes and dislikes. Like I said in my post, it's all a matter of opinion, and I think some of the "deluxe" accommodations are just as unappealing to me. I do have to say, those pictures of POP are much different than I thought. I was envisioning a room decor similar to the ASR.

You say potato, I say potato...(That doesn't translate when you type it! :teeth: )

How about to each his own? Maybe that works. I think it's GREAT everyone doesn't like the same resort! That way we can always stay where we like!

I just wish the whole thing was cheaper, though!

The thing is...I dislike the set up of the values no matter where I find them. When I stay in hotel or motel my one requirement is a window with a view of something other than people because I like privacy in my room, I like to look outside and I really like opening the window(s). You can't have that if you are looking out on a busy walk way. At the values and I guess the moderates (I've only stayed at one so I'm not sure) you have a walkway and no possibility of an open window.

In addition the sheets are thin and the towels are cheap. I might stay at a motel like this when traveling on the road but I wouldn't deliberately choose it when for the same money ...or less... I can have decent sheets, towels, and sufficient space to spread my stuff out. That is to say the ROOM is the worst thing about the values. The rest of the resort can be enjoyed without staying there (other than the pools of course). If I remember I plan to stop in and get a rice krispie treat on my way to my unnamed but not value accomodation.

PS. I'll stay in a value if its cheaper than most accomodations I would stay in offsite but there is NO WAY I'd pay $110 or better to stay in one.

I feel about this thread the same that I feel about people who make statements..."I don't like this or that...it is icky, has a weird texture, etc..." I don't care !!! Good manners mean you don't state likes and dislikes until you know how others in your environment feel...and to post on a board that the values are unappealing, the decor garish, etc...is just tacky. We are staying at POP in September...my child and I are always complimented on our dress, how stylish it is...when we had our last home on the market the other realtors told my realtor how easy mine was to show..."It is so Chicago or New York, just beautiful !!!" I have good taste, but at WDW good taste means fitting in with the parks...which to me means bright, fun, different, etc...Not how I would decorate my home, but I'm on vacation...my home is elegant and understated, I'm there 48 weeks a year...I can cope with something different on vacation. Perhaps a thread titled "Why I Love the Deluxes" would go over better.

I don't understand why people would say they don't like a particular resort if they have never stayed there. If you tried it and didn't like it great but if you haven't, how would you really know.

I love the values. My 8 year old daughter thinks that they are awesome. We have stayed at mods anddeluxes as well and for rhe value and feeling= Values are great.I stay at Delux for conveniences but values for my daughter. I hate the mods! CBR was my worst experience at WDW. Rooms just a bit larger than values but we'll never stay at mods again.

You do not have to open a thread. The OP clearly stated what this thread was about. If you don't like or will be offended by a topic DO NOT OPEN!!

Although I'm sure my daughter would like them, I have no interest in the values because I don't care for the loud and IMO garish theming, the rooms are small, and the accomodations do not offer the amenities I like--interior corridors, room service, sit-down restaurants, cocktail lounge.

Here is a funny story,

While me and my family LOVE POP CENTURY. I realize it's not everyones cup of tea. We actually like it better then the two moderates we stayed at.

Now for the funny story:

Last August was our first stay at Pop Century and we took Mears from the airport to get there.

On our way down we were sitting next to a couple who had one son with them. He was about the same age as my daughter around 10. We were in the last couple of seats at the back of the bus. While we were approaching Pop Century the Women said Oh thank God we aren't staying there. I wouldn't be able to take it. How Gaudy. Me and My wife looked at each other and wanted to sink down in our seats - and when they announced the stop we were the only people on the bus staying there and we got up and felt so funny about it. We felt like the poor value people having to do the long walk from the back of the bus. I felt like everyone was saying, Oh those poor folks have to stay at this place.

Personally I think that is exactly how a thread like this makes some people feel and I'm not sure I understand the point of even starting it. It's like having a snooty friend that says "oh you stay THERE? WE don't like that place because it's soooo tacky!" We are staying at a value for the first time so I opened this thread to see what was so bad about a value. I'm surprised of the amount of negative responses, but glad most of them just appear to be about how "garish" the values are. I guess everyone IS entitled to an opinion and the right to voice it, but on a Disney Resort board where most people are so excited to be going to Disney...I think it's kind of tacky!

You don't have to open the thread to understand the message...the whole point is that it is rude. Just as I wouldn't state political rants as a thread topic, I would not make generalizations about a level of resort. The topic of the thread tells me all I need to know...and it isn't positive.

You say potato, I say potato...(That doesn't translate when you type it! )

It does if you're Dan Quayle. He says potatoe...

Okay, old joke.

IMO, it is not an issue of trying out a resort to see if one might like it. Knowing that there are specific amenities someone seeks or feel are important to them for their vacation (e.g., larger room size, interior hallways, dining options or facilities for meal preparation, nice lobbies, close proximity to theme park--ability to walk, take boat, monorail--balconies, lounges, health club, higher quality linens and/or bedclothes, etc.), and those amenities are available in accomodations that fit an individual's budget, there would be no point in staying in accomodations that do not provide what one wants.

In reading this thread, it seems those posters who say they do not like the value resorts have actually stayed in them. Other posters have only expressed opinions as to why this level of accomodation would not be a good choice for them.

So looking at this thread again...how rude is it to go to politics ? Sure, there is a whole lot I COULD say...but I think we all know what that entails.

The topic is who finds them unappealing. The OP didn't say who finds them ugly or obnoxious or gaudy or the most god awful things I have ever seen. I think that the phrasing used was polite and certainly was not intended to bring down the wrath of the value lovers!

I can't believe that people find it rude that some people actually are not attracted to the value resorts :confused3

I don't really understand the point of this thread. "Hey, I think the values look like crap. Anyone else want to join me in putting down a place I've never stayed at? For no discernable reason?" Perhaps the OP was just really bored, I don't know, but I'm somewhat perplexed...

It's never really occured to me to start a thread about how I think a resort or class of resort I've never stayed at is unappealing. It just seems pointless.

I would stay there if I went alone with my girls, BUT it would not be my first choice. My DH (and my mom) refuses to stay in any hotel with outdoor corridors so it is out of the question when we all are going together. We like balconies, sit down restaurants, closer proximity to parks and a variety of transportation. So as a group the values do not appeal to us.

How is this any different than a post on the Theme Parks board along the lines of 'which ride/attraction in the Magic Kingdom least appeals to you?' or a thead about 'trying to understand why XYZ restaurant in WDW or why fill in the blank food product is so popular' on the Restaurant board?
