Who else finds the value resorts completely unappealing?

I find them completely unappealing, but not for standard reasons.....

I worl for Department of Buses in NYC. The LAST thing I want to do while on a vacation is ride a bus!!!!

So, I'm a resort snob by necessity...

You realize that you need to use the busses to get to AK from all the resorts and to MGM from most resorts unless you stay at one of the MGM area ones that has a boat at which point you'd need to ride a bus to get to MK & Epcot, right?

I have had no desire to stay at the All Stars. But in the future if we are on a tight budget and staying at an AS means the only way we can stay onsite, then by all means I would not hesitate to do so!

It's not so much that I find them unappealing then it is I've been spoiled for life staying at places like the BWI and AKL.

I think this is just personal preference. For our Sept. trip I saved $30 a night by staying at the All Stars and to my family thats a big deal and allows us to stay for 5 nights and maybe a second trip later in the year.

We have stayed at all levels of resorts, from GF RPC to Pop Century. The bottom line for us is that we love to visit the Mouse and that is what our vacation is all about, where we stay is a non issue.....as long as we can stay on property. :goodvibes

I have to agree with Claudia!
If it meant either Pop/AS or offsite I would go value without hesitation!
However, my DH & I stay deluxe at this point b/c the girls are young enough to stay in our room & still have enough room. Once they get older... we will be staying 2 rooms at a value Resort I am sure! ;) And honestly, the pool areas & etc are so over the top themed I know the girls would FLIP if we stayed there now! We just run back & forth a few times a day- with 2 pre-school aged girls- and when you are closer to the parks, the price for proximity is priceless! :rotfl2:

Well gee friggin whiz people.

How many times do I need to say that this thread is NOT for those who enjoy value resorts to SWOOP DWON FROM ON FRIGGIN HIGH to defend their hotel?!?

This was a thread merely to find out if there were others out there who found the value resorts and the ammenities offered therein, unappealing. But suddenly I'm the one being called names (snotty, rude, garish). I'm rude for posting my thoughts on a HOTEL, but it's just fine and dandy for you to jduge ME??

I just KNEW that people were going to get all bent our of shape over this one. We are talking about a hotel and personal preferences. Why are you being so angry and defensive? Nobody was accusing anyone who stays at a value resort of anything. No labels were given. I am sorely dissappointed that it appears that many of you chose to ignore the WARNING in my original post and make this a crusade to defend the value resorts.

If you like 'em..great! Go start your own thread about how much you love them.

If you don't like them...feel free to post here where I will not judge you or anyone else for your personal preferences.

Unbelievable.

If the rooms weren't sooooo small, I could see staying there. Even with just 2 people it is still very crowded. I suppose if you are just going to sleep there maybe it would work, but my kids need downtime so I couldn't handle a value resort more than once. When we use to take frequent trips to Orlando and money was tight, I'd just prefer to stay outside of Disney to save money.

I find the decor very garish, not my taste at all.

Are you serious? You post a public thread on a public board and expect only people who agree with you to post? I'm sure that would be nice for you, but that is never going to happen. You can't dictate who can and who can't post on your thread no matter how much you might want to.

For the record, I'm not angry at all. I just don't see the point of this thread, particularly since you 'just KNEW' it would cause people to get 'bent out of shape'. :confused3 I understand you can post what you want as long as it follows the Disboard rules, but don't get exasperated when others post what they want within your thread, even if you didn't want them to post.

There are some that don't find the need to splurge on extravagance when it's unnecessary.

My in-laws are a prime example. They are extremely wealth and they travel on over 25+ trips a year. Yes, that is over two trips a month!! However, they are more likely to stay at a value resort at disney because they don't see the need to spend extra money on a bed. If I ever told them that we spend $250 a night on a hotel, they would be flabbergasted.

Some people just like a good deal and there is nothing wrong with that.

Am I the only one who is happy equally no matter what level of hotel service I am staying at? :confused3 (see my sig...granted I've only stayed at a value once but I'll say I enjoyed it just as much as my other trips...)

Values are awesome for those days when you say "I feel like going to Disneyworld in a few weeks" but don't want to spend a ton of cash on a room. This is what I did on my last trip. I returned from a wonderful week at AKL and said "I can't wait until next year..." so I called up and booked a weekend at Pop. It's going to cost me about $250 for the whole weekend (3 nights)

I plan to have just as good a time at Pop as I did at AKL.

Just a slight correction but from the Epcot resorts there is no bus transportation to Epcot. It is boat or walk. Buses are to MK, AK, DTD and the waterparks. Epcot and MGM are boat or walking. Epcot is the closest park to all the Epcot resorts particularly the BCVs. All the other resorts are also a close walk to Epcot (5-8 min). MGM is a longer walk (15-20 min) and BWV is the closest walk from all the Epcot resorts.
I have never understood the resort wars. We are DVC members with contracts at the Epcot DVC resorts. We also stay in all other levels of WDW resorts.
I think a big factor in this equation is people that make one trip or less per year vs those that go multiple tiimes in a year. We have our pre planned DVC trips but then we willl sometimes start or end these trips at a non DVC resort for Fri and Sat nights. We will also often take a quick weekend getaway when a super deal comes out for a non DVC resort. This gives us the opportunity to stay at all the WDW resorts. We like them all. We prefer some resorts over others but we do like them all We have had very few noise problems, kids screaming etc. But when we have encoutered these problems it has been evenly distributed between all the different levels of WDW resorts.
The value resort bus stops are the last in a long line at the parks and there is only 1 bus stop for the whole resort at the values. We think this is just how it should be. This is still not a problem just hang out in the park until about 40 minutes after the park has closed. You will have plenty to do since all the stores are open on the main drag of each park. The buses run to at least an hour after park closing. We would rather spend this time in a park watching it close down for the evening then waiting in a long bus line.. Disney will not leave you stranded. They keep bringing in the buses until the whole park is cleared.

I felt the same way as the OP just a few short years ago. I loved my Deluxe stays, enjoyed my Moderates, and continue to adore my DVC. And the over-the-top nature of the Values was a bit much for me.

But then I had children.

DD's 5th birthday gift was a Mommy-and-me trip, and for various reasons, we stayed at Pop Century. DD was thrilled with it. And I enjoyed it much more than I ever thought I would. Yes, the icons are huge and a bit garish, but I have to admit it was kinda fun to pass the 5-story tall Lady and Tramp on our way to and from Classic Hall each day. It felt very "Disney," almost like we were still in the Magic Kingdom.

Will I ever go back? Maybe when DS turns 5 and he gets his turn at a Mommy-and-me birthday trip. But I doubt I will ever take DH (who's 6' 6") or go with more than one other (small) person. And the funny thing is, I still don't want to stay at an All-Star Resort. If it has to be Value, I think I'll stick with Pop. But we'll see what DS has to say at that time, and who knows? Perhaps 3 years from now, I'll be posting that I actually enjoyed ASSp despite my prejudice against it!

For the sheer entertainment value, of course!!! I don't have to watch the Jerry Springer Show "Neo Nazis vs. Gangbangers" tomorrow. I just come here, read the Deluxe Vs. Values thread and my day is complete! Thank you, DISBoards! :teeth:

Exactly! If you know that a thread you are starting is going to get people all bent out of shape, why start it? Do you love drama? Are you one of those people who cannot enjoy life if their isn't some sort of debate going on at all times? If so, then golly jee friggin whiz, I bet you're a delight to be around! Seems to me, if you knew people were going to be upset by your thread you would have expected differing opinions than yours. Shockingly, it's peeved you off and you had to swoop down from your almighty high and rescue the lowly value inhabitants and teach them a lesson about "if you don't like it, don't look at it." How bout this, if you can't say something nice, don't say it...but if you just HAVE to say it, expect people to disagree with you. Other than that, have a magical day! :wizard:

I think this kind of thread can be very informative. If you are someone planning a trip, you can read why some people wouldn't be interested in staying at this level of hotel. There have certainly been threads praising the values. It can help you decide what IS important to you.

My previous trips have been offsite, primarily. I gained alot of info from postings that praised being on site (at various hotels), because it clarified for me that those things didn't matter to me.

I'm now benefitting from the posts where people share their stories from the Poly, good and bad.

Everyone needs to lighten up. The title of this post is very clear.....if it's going to upset you........don't open it! If you're not going to get anything out of it...don't open it! It's not worth stressing about!! :) Read something that helps you out, or you will enjoy! :earsboy:

My point was why did the OP start such a thread if they 'just KNEW' that it was going to cause such controversy and upset?

I agree, it's definitely informative on some level, but if the OP knew the kind of reaction that the thread would cause then why do it (and then come storming in complaining about it)? :confused3

We haven't tried any Values yet, since we have only stayed on property twice- both times at Mods. We loved them both- POFQ and CSR. This fall, we are going for a longer vacation, and can't swing a Mod this time. So, we opted for Pop.

I don't think we'll hate it- it looks cute, and we don't spend much time in the room, anyway. The big thing I'm worried about is the size of the resort (i.e., too spread out- I hate walking all day at the parks then having to hike around to get anywhere in the resort) and the bus situation.

Once we get back, I'll be able to tell if we want to do Value resorts again or not.
