Who else finds the value resorts completely unappealing?

Are you serious? You post a public thread on a public board and expect only people who agree with you to post? I'm sure that would be nice for you, but that is never going to happen. You can't dictate who can and who can't post on your thread no matter how much you might want to.

For the record, I'm not angry at all. I just don't see the point of this thread, particularly since you 'just KNEW' it would cause people to get 'bent out of shape'. :confused3 I understand you can post what you want as long as it follows the Disboard rules, but don't get exasperated when others post what they want within your thread, even if you didn't want them to post.

Naturally anyone is free to respond to the thread with their opinion, but I do not appreciate the personal attacks on myself and the others who have posted in agreement with this thread. If YOU don't see the point of the thread, why did you bother to read or post to it? I don't see why people who love the value resorts would bother to even read this thread or deign to respond (Though MANY did in a very non-confrontational and non-judgmental way, which is just fine).

I "just knew" this thread would devolve into this nonsense because MANY MANY posters on the DIS simply go way too overboard. However, just because you guys take things way too personally (as if my dislike for a value resort was somehow a personal atatck on you), does not mean I cannot or will not post an opinion. I thank the posters who have simply given their opinions on the topic at hand. I am sure the people who post mug or pool hopping threads know quite well that their topics may well end up a flame throwing contest and yet I find a new mug thread almost every day.

The thread was never meant to bash the value of Disney's value level resorts, but rather to find out who else felt that they were not something they'd enjoy (and why). It also NEVER ever bashed or condemned those who do enjoy them or choose to stay there for any reason (and 10 pages in, I STILL haven't seen a single post where value resort patrons were referred to negatively).

So (in theory) there shouldn't be a problem...just a civil exchange of ideas and opinions.

I guess now wouldn't be a good time to talk about how I find the AKL unappealing as well?

I know I know...MANY of you simply love those resorts, so this thread isn't for you (I can just see the angry throngs rushing to post in "defense" of these resorts).

The theming, the layout, the GIAGNTIC "icons", are just so unappealing to me in every way. Naturally if I was on a supertight budget, I'd bite the bullet and stay in one, but frankly I think I'd rather save more money and go when I could afford a mod (I love CBR, and POFQ). I think the "icons" look silly personally.

There must be others out there who feel this way. Tiny rooms, kids and crowds and tour groups everywhere. Who else isn't a "value" fan?

Actually I don't think this sounds like just constructive criticism being offered. It just sounds like a big put down to value resorts & therefor a direct cut to those that stay there. You know the ones with heaven forbid...kids? and part of the...crowd? If it was just to state some legitimate problems that someone wanted to inform the DIS boards I could understand. Or if someone asks someone's opinion of what they liked or didn't like when they stayed there, & they offered both sides of the coin fine. Same goes for a particular park, restaurant, etc. Some of the replies have been informative...some just offensive. I am not angry nor am I a big defender of Disney or values in particular, but I DO think that if you have something very negative to say on a Disney Resort board, don't expect people to ignore it. Like one poster said...that's never gonna happen!

Well gee friggin whiz people.

How many times do I need to say that this thread is NOT for those who enjoy value resorts to SWOOP DWON FROM ON FRIGGIN HIGH to defend their hotel?!?
:confused3

SHEESH! I think that you've answered yourself with this one.

Naturally anyone is free to respond to the thread with their opinion

Please don't tell me that I am not allowed to post on any one thread on these boards. Pete can....you can't. ;)

That said, I've stayed at ASMu, and will be at POP in the summer. I've stayed at Dixie ( pirate: ) which we loved and BC, which, surprisingly, my family did not particularly like. We've stayed at FW Cabins, CSR, and took advantage of the Courtyard August deals a few years back. With a large family, and three in university, I will go where I can afford. . . and for now, that is POP. Wherever I stay, I will have a magical time, because I am on vacation, at my laughing place, with my family!

Have a magical day!

We HAVE stayed at the values. Our most miserable Disney trip was at All-Star Movies many years ago. We also stayed one night at Pop just last fall. But it's the crowds. It's the small rooms. It's the lack of amenities. It's the lines everywhere. But we are "resort" people. When we go to a park we may go for three hours max and do maybe four attractions and/or a meal. The majority of our time on Disney vacations is spent right there at the resort. The resort is everything. We're DVC members now and we love our DVC resorts! But we also enjoy the moderates with Riverside our current favorite. We DO have a child too (a nine year old). But even for her the values don't hold any "value" because she likes pools with slides. We just returned from an OKW/POR trip. At OKW she was able to do crafts. At Riverside in addition to the slide we did a carriage ride as well as fishing (twice). Values just don't feel like "resorts" to me. And on vacation I need a resort.

Recently we decided to take a quick trip to Disney just for 3 days and found it was cheaper to stay at All Sports than to stay at FW. We stayed in the surfs up building and was right by pool and food court. We actually enjoyed our stay there, it wasn't so bad. The only thing we found was our stay was during a cheerleading comp. therefore cheerleaders were preparing for comp. they were noisy during the day, but it was not noisy at night. We would probably stay there again. DH and I went walking to the All Star and All music We enjoyed checking out the way they were themed. I still prefer FW, but the room and atmoshere were not quite as bad as I imagined it would be. We had DD (16) and DS (7) with us. :sunny:

Ok...constructive...let me think on this for a second....

Got it! The resort seems to me too open. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to get away from the crowds. At the mods (where I usually stay) and deluxes (where I am staying in October-which by the way I couldn't afford to stay in if it wasn't a wedding gift), there are lots of secluded well landscaped areas and quiet pools and hammocks and such. I didn't see a whole lot of shaded areas at the values when I visited them.

No sit-down restaurant. I DO love a good food court (which is why I love the mods. I wish the deluxes had them too). Sometimes, though, I like a relaxed sit-down breakfast after I roll out of bed, or when returning to the resort for the middday break. My understanding is that the food court at the values is one of their best features.

The theming. I think the concept of the themes was terrific (a resort based on sports, music, movies and pop culture) but I don't like how it was carried out. It's too over the top for my taste. I'm not an architect or resort planner, so I couldn't begin to offer ideas! Perhaps had the icons been a little more understated I wouldn't mind them...but I bet the people who love the resorts would!

I generally like a resort that offers lots of activites (a marina, water sports, etc). Pop has a lake correct? I wonder if they'd consider making water mice or fishing boat rentals available. It shouldn't affect operating costs too much.

I like Disney resorts that have modes of transport other than bus. PO has the boat to DTD (and is my favorite mod).

The rooms are small...not a huge deal especially for the commandos who only use the room for sleeping or showering. A big deal for larger families. Since I don't go to Disney very often (2000 was the last trip), I can save up to stay in a mod (or in my upcoming Oct trip, a deluxe) where the rooms are nicer than my bedroom. Also I do spend a lot of time at the resort, not just at the parks.

IF I were able to take yearly trips to Disney (or more frequently) or had children, I would probably stay in a value resort. Since I go every couple of years, I find my vacation a bit more magical if I save up and stay in a resort that better serves my vacation needs.

I thought that was very informative, especially since I've never even visited one. Thank you!

On our way down we were sitting next to a couple who had one son with them. He was about the same age as my daughter around 10. We were in the last couple of seats at the back of the bus. While we were approaching Pop Century the Women said Oh thank God we aren't staying there. I wouldn't be able to take it. How Gaudy. Me and My wife looked at each other and wanted to sink down in our seats - and when they announced the stop we were the only people on the bus staying there and we got up and felt so funny about it. We felt like the poor value people having to do the long walk from the back of the bus. I felt like everyone was saying, Oh those poor folks have to stay at this place.

You should have just taken Mears to the Poly, then taken a cab back to POP. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :teeth: :teeth:

FYI, the Deluxes do have food courts. The one at AKL not only has the typical burger/fries fare, but a great selection of African inspired dishes as well.

I have been reading this thread from the beginning and can't beleive some of the responses. The OP did not come out and ask people to be snobs as many have said. They were just asking a question if anyone else felt the same as they did. If I prefer filet mignon over a hamburger does that mean I'm a snob. NO it doesn't, it just means I have different tastes than someone else. To answer the OP's question, no I don't like the value resorts. Have I ever stayed there? NO I haven't, but the theming is very unappealing to me.(to me not to everyone else. that's why it's called an opinion.) If they took the exact same resort, same rooms, same areas and changed the theme I may love it. That was the question the OP was asking. This wasn't a bashing thread just an opinion thread. We shouldn't take everything quite so serious, life's to short. :hourglass Just my opinion.

I prefer deluxes over value. I have stayed in the value....I prefer not to again.

I enjoy getting on the monorail with my stoller stretched out and my baby in it! I enjoy larger rooms and I enjoy towels at the pool! :teeth:

When I was planning our first on site trip, I figured my family would want to stay at the All-Star resort. We watched the planning video, and no, even the kids had no interest in the All-Stars. I talked them into a moderate (they all liked the one with the red roof :rotfl2:) We stayed at CBR and it was just OK. We went one evening to the Polynesian for the Luau and that was it, DH wanted to switch resorts right then, and after staying at the Poly for our last trip, I have to say he was right. We had a fantastic stay at the Poly! I loved having the balcony, we loved the concierge service, the multiple transportation options and the closeness of MK, to name a few things. I felt like a welcomed and valued guest at the Polynesian. While I can't speak for the value resorts, as I have never stayed in one, at the CBR I felt like just another customer that needed dealt with. I think part of that feeling came about because there were just SO many people staying in one resort. Looking at the sheer number of people the value resorts can hold, I feel like we would experience the same herded cattle feeling we did at CBR.

FOR THOSE WHO READ "ALL THROUGH THIS THREAD" AND COULD NOT SEE ANY ATTACKS...HERE IS ONE FOR YOU...

We were watching the Vacation Planning DVD last night, since DH has only seen TWO resorts up-close. When we looked at the profiles on the Value resorts, he turned to me and said "Is this the place where all the masses stay?"

YES, my DH is a WDW Resort SNOB, and he hasn't even been there yet........I've apparently trained him well !!! :rotfl2:

READ BETWEEN THE LINES, THIS IS A ATTACK ON PEOPLE WHO UTILIZE THE VALUE RESORTS. It doesn't take a doctorine in English to realise what "the masses" really means!

AND FOR THOSE WHO THINK THE VALUES ARE 'GARISH" OR "TACKY".......Do you think EVRYONE THINKS THEY ARE? Because most people don't. Do you not think those words are spiteful, ignorant and deragatory? They certainly are, and you use them as if there were no negative conotations associated with them. These words stink of low morality. And for those who can't tell the difference, you are a sad lot of folk. :sad2:

How about using adjectives such as "humorous", "fun", "abstract", "delightful"..."DISNEY LIKE"..when describing the values...because thats were they are!!!!

You know what was meant....lets treat each other gently...it seems to be a very emotional topic for some reason...and kitsch is a better word than garish....I apologise for using that word...no harm intended.

Jesus....some folks need to get a life! If you want to stay in a value good for you! If you got offended by this thread....it is your own fault...it is clearly marked! :sad2:

And some folks have such a limited world view and are so not self-aware they don't realize how snotty and pretentious they sound.

There are some nice people who have posted in this thread, but others who simply don't have the social tact to understand that their words are going to be offensive to others.

"So that's where the masses stay..." is pretty bluntly snobbish. Some people know better than to say such things...others apparently do not.

This was a thread merely to find out if there were others out there who found the value resorts and the ammenities offered therein, unappealing. But suddenly I'm the one being called names (snotty, rude, garish). I'm rude for posting my thoughts on a HOTEL, but it's just fine and dandy for you to jduge ME??

Well, unfortunately, once you make a posting you do not "own" it. You have no control over who replys on a public message board.

It's funny you are accusing people of "swooping down from on (expletive deleted) high", because to others that may feel like EXACTLY what you are doing in this thread.

Yes, you are going to offend people when you post things like this. It's like starting a thread saying, "I'll only drive a mercedes because I can't stand economy cars...so horrible!" or "Yuck! I could never go to a state school. Private colleges are SO much better!"

It may be how you feel, but when you stand and tell everyone about it in mixed company it comes across as snobbery.

Just the fact that you felt the need to create this thread speaks volumes. Not everyone is in the same financial position as you are, and many families simply do not have a choice in the matter. It's the only way they are going to get to WDW.

If you wish to have private threads where you can discuss your opinions without offending others, then may I suggest you start your own Disney message board? Because other than that, you have no control and should expect people to comment when you start threads with combative titles like this one.

No one is saying you are wrong to feel the way you do; it simply is in poor taste to start a thread simply to say you won't stay somewhere because you demand more and apparently can afford it. As that's not an option for some, of course it is going to offend.

Why didn't YOU start a thread saying, "I like staying in deluxes because..." instead of starting a negative thread about Values? Why did you feel you had to be so negative, instead of telling us why you make the choices you do, instead of ragging on something you don't like?

Pot. Kettle. Black.

I'm just going to take the comment to mean that Americans who stay at Value resorts are the most patriotic of the bunch. It even mentions them on the Statue of Liberty. You know, those "huddled masses yearning to breathe free." (And after a full day at a Disney theme park, most of us are "your tired, your poor" as well.)
