White NAACP Leader Who Passed As Black

I can't help but think her extreme persona/lifestyle change stems more from this beef she has with her parents and less to do with her identifying as a black person. There's something creepy going on with that whole family. Her biological brother is being investigated for child molestation. The parents came out with this news about her true racial origin just as she was about to take the stand against her biological brother.

I'm thinking something is going on with those parents that caused her to change literally everything about herself and force them out of her life.

I thought that a reporter opted to interview them for something regarding Rachel. They answered honestly.

Don't we praise parents who DO out a child who was done wrong. She did wrong but time. When asked, did you expect them to say they didn't know her?

Hmmm......My family has been in TX since before the revolution. At one time, we were Mexican citizens. Do I see a Hispanic scholarship in my blonde haired, blue eyed daughter's future? She already has one heck of a tan. I guess we might need to color her hair, but heck, that's not much of a sacrifice for thousands of dollars.

Is this where we're heading? Will she be considered brave and courageous?

Listen guys, all I was questioning is "why". What caused her to go down this path that began with an estrangement from her white parents and ended up with her masquerading in every facet of her life. Maybe something in her upbringing triggered it all, or maybe there was nothing and she's just mentally ill and a pathological liar. No one knows at this point.

It's heading to the absurd, no question.

And onto the silly....This morning my better half wondered if he could declare himself a waterfront property owner. He's always wanted one of those places. :sunny:

Maybe she forced them out of her life so people wouldn't find out she isn't actually black.

I think I understand what you are saying. I used to work at a free clinic (back in the day) and saw so much poverty and suffering. I'm not overly patient with highly educated folks who know how to work the system to their advantage. Maybe she's mentally ill, maybe she's a big time manipulator. I think there are rather unpleasant indicators of how she treats people in what she said to her brothers, but we'll see.

Our culture states that if you feel or identify as someone then you can be that person. For example, a person born as a woman might identify as a man and therefore we let him live as a man, if that person wants to. We also are not allowed to discriminate against this person. We should give this woman the same rights. If she feels and identifies herself as a black person than we should let her be one.

Can someone please tell me where "our culture" states this??
With that same token my kids in college should be able to apply for whatever scholarships they want as long as they identify themselves with whatever is required to receive said money?? Not true by a long shot. "Feeling" and "being" are two different things altogether.

I have heard of people abandoning their roots. She went full tilt cray cray though. Like her own version of the Witness Protection program. But with the same DOB, SSN and birth certificate it could only last so long.

As far as the lying--

I feel that some may want to blame her parents. Not sure who--but I think we need to be careful and not "justify" her conduct. (Not saying you are--but where this could lead.)

"Some people"? Melissa Harris Perry?

Rachel is Caucasian. MHP is discussing if one can decide to be. She is going for ratings on her opinion program. That is not a disclosure of documented genealogy. That's trying to make this ridiculous lie sound not so ridiculous and it fails.
Look, poo-poo it all you want, but it's a lot more than just one MSNBC talking head:
But NYU sociology professor Ann Morning told CBS2’s Jiang that just like some people are transgender, others may be trans-racial – identifying more with a race other than their own.

Dolezal grew up with four adopted black siblings, and was briefly married to a black man.

“We’re getting more and more used to the idea that people’s racial affiliation and identity and sense of belonging can change, or can vary, with different circumstances,” Morning said.
Sound familiar?

Your comments also ignore the fact that "race" is a MUCH weaker social construct, then say is "gender". I've been very interested in some of the insights on race from Henry Louis Gates Jr., particularly from his PBS series Finding Your Roots. He points out that the notion of race is very much a modern concept, and one that is often quite murky. To him, it boils down to the question "Who are your people???" There's more than one way to answer that question.

I'm not going to do in depth research of that con artist to verify this, but I read that her parents adopted the 4 Black children when Rachel was a teen. A teen. So she was fully established as a WHITE GIRL before those siblings came along. My brother adopted a Korean boy when his daughter was about 12 and she never kidded herself that she was Asian. If she had married an Asian man, she still would have been quite clear on the fact that she was indeed, NOT ASIAN. Why? Because she isn't.

That is fine if she identifies as black. No problem if she has achieved "blackness."

She still did not grow up in a tipi with a black father, hunting for food with bows and arrows. She may have achieved blackness for herself, but she still cannot say that she relates to growing up black because of her childhood. She grew up caucasian. That is her experience.

And she certainly did not have to fabricate 8 hate crimes to further her achievement of blackness.

What is "black"? What is "white"? Scientists have found no real DNA differences. "Race" is a purely social classification based on certain physical attributes that we associate with certain "peoples". e.g. a certain combination of skin type, hair type, nose shape etc. But with all the mixing between ethnic groups that has been happening for many years, there are so many people that if you see them outside of their normal social context (and you knew nothing about their lineage), and you have only pure looks to go by, you wouldn't know how to classify them. And I wish we had reached the enlightened age where it wasn't necessary to classify anyone. We are all just part of the human race.

She didn't really start doing what she was doing until either 2007 or 2010, so she was an adult by then.
Also Rachel told her brothers to tell others that they were either her "full blooded" brother or that one of them was her kid, which is completely awful.

I am not attempting to defend her actions, but consider this... To those that didn't know her "back story", she appeared "black" and when asked said she was "black". We cannot speak to childhood history, but in recent years whenever she walked into a retail store, sat for a job interview, filled out any application that contained a racial check box, or was pulled over by the police, etc. the people she interacted with didn't have a copy of her birth certificate nor would have asked to see a photo of her parents. So, it's really hard to say exactly what her racial "experience" has been since transitioning.

As for people that are hung up on their fact that she's used lies and deceptive actions to cover her transition to being "black", consider this... before "transgender" became a relatively accepted status in our society, it was not difficult to find examples of transgender people who similarly resorted to living deceptive lives in order to be able to express themselves as they self-identified.

Yes, I will "poo poo" them. It's a white person in black face. This is back pedaling plain and simple.

She wanted to get a tan and a perm and "live black", have at it. Adopting a culture and fabricating a life are two different things.

I love all things French. While I could feasibly adopt the entire culture, I would not make me French.

When she lied about everything? Yeah--they can do what they wish. They have no credibility when they justify this charade. This is a joke and any "ologist" that wants to justify it to make a name for themselves look ridiculous.
