Whispering Canyon - Recent Experiences?

As others have said, it all depends on the server as far as the antics and service level. We typically go to Whispering Canyon at least once on every trip. The food is one of our favorites on property for either breakfast or dinner. It's one of those places you know you shouldn't eat more but it's so good you just keep eating anyway. Highly recommended.

Even before the pandemic, antics had been reduced because supposedly there had been complaints from some hotel guests about the noise level. With the pandemic, they don't want multiple guests from different tables passing the same ketchup bottles around to each other, so that's all the more reason some antics were cut back.

I see they just posted a disney dining show video giving pretty good reviews for this place. I have to say that while I may be an outlier based on what practically everyone else has said, I was there 2 nights ago for dinner, took 1 bite of each type of meat, and asked the server to take it away. I wonder if they make ALL the food around lunch time and keep it warm through dinner. I don't know - perhaps I had temporary covid for that one hour or something - but I thought it was horrendous. Nothing was worth eating. The vegetables were fine - buttered, canned corn and briefly grilled/steamed green beans were ok, and the mashed potatoes were good enough if you like a pound of butter per bite. I also casually asked my dining neighbors (at the tables adjacent to mine) what they thought and they all agreed with me, at least to the point of being disappointed or saying it had gone downhill.

Also, unless you are under 5'1" and weigh less than 100 lbs, ask to NOT SIT ON THE BACK "patio" area. Those tiny wooden kid's tables are absolutely ridiculous. What are they thinking?? Everything else in that entire resort is amazing, and sure they look cute, but c'mon man! You can tell everyone back there was eating at an angle with one leg shifted to the side, because they're kid's tables! Ridiculous.

I will say I enjoyed the breakfast a lot (other than the mickey waffles which they're using up their "wrong" batter from early reopening days; I posted a separate thread on that), and the entire staff including servers are excellent. The server I had for the bad dinner gave me zero grief at all, took it away and took care of everything. I had to run and grab some cash and return so I could at least give her a cash tip because she's not responsible for the food being bad.

I've had disney BBQ plenty of times before. I'm certainly not comparing to Fat Matt's or Daddy D'z (my 2 favorites) but it's always been fairly good to me, nonetheless. This was not my experience this time.

This was always one of my go to restaurants for every trip...not anymore! The food was mediocre and the service was blah. The skillets are way overpriced and when I asked for more of an item I got a dirty look. We were never offered more shakes or beverage refills. The fun part is completely gone from the restaurant, that just leaves you with so so, overpriced food. We had a car this trip and our two offsite restaurants beat the Disney restaurants, and their extremely limited and small menus, by far. If you have a car go to Yardhouse or the Toothsome Chocolate Emporium..they are spectacular.

We ate there in March and enjoyed our meal. No antics at all. Food was good--slightly overpriced but tasty and high quality. They brought out more food without our even asking.

So, I thought I'd give an update since I did eat at Whispering Canyon on this past Sunday. I thought it was great! We had an excellent server who had all of the attitude that I had hoped for. She was "Sunshine" and she played with us and the table next to us quite a lot. I think it may really depend on how willing you are to play along - but we were in a good group it seems. The food was very good, though not amazing or anything. I had the all pork skillet, and the "piggy wings" were the standout. My friend had the traditional, and we agreed that the brisket was the best, possibly because it had a similar sauce to the piggy wings. Weidly, my next favorite thing was the corn. Even my friend liked it and he hates corn! I guess if you put enough butter and salt on something it's bound to be pretty good. 😁 I had some pulled pork on my skillet that was actually pretty on point - I'm from Memphis mind you - but it could have used some sauce. Overall though it was a very enjoyable meal and Sunshine really sold it. I know it can be inconsistent, but I would still recommend the place for sure.

We make it a point to have breakfast here at least once a visit, antics or not.We have videos we made of our grandkids over the years, racing around the room on their "horses".They've seemed to outgrow that now.Memories....that's disney for me
