Whispering Canyon Café, breakfast, 5/24
I regret doing this. It’s not that anything was bad. It was all just adequate. I’d rather grab breakfast at Roaring Forks. We didn’t end up doing the skillet as we decided we wouldn’t eat half of what was offered on it. It was also just a bit on the over priced side, even for a hotel. It wasn’t dead, but hardly lively. There was nothing going on that you couldn’t get at Denny’s.

Whispering Canyon Café, dinner, 5/28
This was our first and last dinner here, even if we stay at WL again. We ordered the skillet meal for DH and myself and grilled cheese sandwiches for both the boys. The food was all right. Nothing I couldn’t get anywhere else (including bbq fast food) for a lot less money. I’d rather eat somewhere a little more unique next time—somewhere in Epcot maybe???

The service was rotten. OK, our server was training. However, the trainer was dropping the ball quite a bit too. Especially since it was the trainees very first day. We were rushed to give an order, but waited forever to get food. Tables sat after us, got food first. We couldn’t get refills. When something did come out, it was frequently the wrong thing (i.e., chocolate milk shake instead of vanilla). They pulled away our toddlers grilled cheese before he was done. There was no personality at our table. We weren’t even offered dessert. When our bill came, there were a lot of mistakes on it. It was just all around bad service.

Wow that's too bad. I have never been to WCC and I have an ADR for dinner in July. I must admit to having second thoughts. The reviews are pretty mixed. I would love to visit the WL, that is mainly why I booked for dinner. I just might check to see if I can eat somewhere else.

shame. I've been to WCC twice. ONe time, not great interaction, but second time decent interaction.

hi,

Hmm...Mom & I have always had a good breakfast here!! Sorry you had a bad experience.

Ms. Sparrow aka Allison

We ate there during Hurricane Frances. They were serving skillets only. I thought they did a fab job given the circumstances. We didn't get overwhelmed with the ketchup and drinks and such--but the wait staff was a hoot and my daughter got to do the parade.

Not sure if we will do it again--but I do wonder what the "trick" is to having a fantastic time instead of a so so time.

we were there on a Thursday evening, 8:20 PS and we had a blast! Kids loved it, we loved it, just an all around great time! It was our first dinner at Disney and really set the mood! My kids don't generally enjoy restarants but they just had a wonderful tie here. I think I have read that bfast and lunch were more laid back,so if you want in on the action, I would go for dinner and ask to be seated in the thick of it! We had a great server - Kate, but also got a kick out of many other servers around us. One man was running around doing all kinds of crazy stuff and my ds 7 said - oh I get it - this is a Disney restaurant! Meaning he thought the restaurants were all part of the fun which this really was. I can not imagine a better way to kick off a vacation. Food was very good dh got NY strip steak, Nachos not bad, kids food the usual, mine chicken pasta primavera good also. For the beer drinkers here is a tip - don't order the larger beer - it is 9.75 and comes in one of those crazy tall plastic cups. I plan on making this place our first stop every time - and I was VERY hesitant to even go!

We are due to go next week...so here is keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. Thanks for the info though...

We ate there on 5/14. It was the first night of our vacation. This was probably not the best place to go after a long day of traveling. The atmosphere was just a little too much for me. Our waitress was really over the top but i hear others were more subdued. Her service began with her throwing straws at us and ended with her imitating my 4yo son's tantrum. No one was less amused than him. The ketchup joke was funny but got boring after the hundreth time. As far as the food goes, very average at best. I had meatloaf and my husband had steak. I think my kids both had hotdogs. Service not so great either. Had natchos for app. and they were cold by the time she came back with more sour cream. I do not think we will eat there at any time during our next trip.

thats to bad i ate there several times in seot and loved it
it was loud fun and crazy
teh food was great
chef al even came out to our table as my mom was VERY sick and they made her homemade chicken soup and even offered to maker her more and have it delivered to our room

I have never eaten at WCC, but I have to say WL is worth the visit even if you are just there to see it. There is a lot to see in the lobby and it is cool to see the geyser. A nice rainy day thing, too, or if you need a park escape.

I would highly recommend (if you are budget conscious) a light meal at Artist Point. They serve all the normal disney kids stuff if you have kids, and as adults they are very much ok with splitting an entree. If you do this, and maybe even share a dessert with the whole family, you can have a great time for probably the same cost as WCC would be for full meals. We split meals all the time and end up nicely full but not overstuffed and feeling great because we spend like we're at a moderately priced restaurant but eat fantastic food.

The other nice thing is if you do dinner here you can see the electric water parade if you are there late enough.

Anyway, I'd recommend a quick trip to WL just to see it if you are interested. We thought it was so cool. It was a big thing we did at last trip - stayed at CBR and had meals at different resorts to check them out. Lots of fun!

We went to WCC last year on Halloween Day (for lunch). We were SO disappointed. Our kids wore their Halloween costumes and they had a costume contest, but only for the workers.

There was a wedding party there too and it seemed all the waitstaff's attention was on this party. One waitress even put the wedding cake inches from my 8 year's old's face and then said to her "Don't touch this - it's not for you."

We tried so hard to get them to be "fun" but we had no fun at all! We asked for ketchup, large drinks, made jokes, and got nothing but our food.

We are going to give WCC another chance this Aug. because we're staying at WL and our youngest DD did love playing with the lincoln logs.

:guilty:

did you say something to the manager? i sure would have. i would have stopped them from taking my childs sandwich even if i had to slap the servers hand. if i wanted desert i would have asked for it. if i need a drink and they don't bring it i get up and get it. i also tell the manager about the bad service also. i just don't "wait" around for servers to take care of me if they are not good at it. i don't let people rush me and if i had to wait longer for my meal than others i do speak up. better to do this while you are at the restaurant than later on this message board

Cynthia - ask for BJ as your waiter. He was a trip! :sunny:
this is my mom's nickname i will remember this and ask to be in the thick of it. my 5 and 8 year old should enjoy this and the 16's yr olds can be appropriatly embarrassed.

It's funny that you say that! We are going in July and have enjoyed WC in the past, but reviews lately are making me very nervous! I think we will try Kona Cafe for lunch this time..not the same fun , but it sounds like many people aren't having fun at WC anymore! :sad2:

I regret doing this.

Don't ever regret telling of an poor dining experience. Not everyone has a perfect meal.

Most breakfasts - whether at Denny's, IHOP, or WCC - are pretty much standard fare - eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, potatoes, pancakes - some are just seasoned different. Different tastes, different people, different results. As for the "antics", breakfast is much more subdued than dinner.

I'm sorry you had bad service. I probably would have asked to talk to the manager. Especially if we weren't offered dessert!! :confused3 We've eaten here at least 5 - 6 times. Sometimes the server has been really crazy, other times the server was "just a server".

We have a PS for WCC in 8 days. It has always been our family's favorite. We are looking forward to a fun meal.

Sorry you had such a negative experience ~ Thanx for sharing.

I've been to WC 10+ times. Used to stay at the WL a lot. The only bad time I had was when I was put on the back end of the restaurant away from the main dining. But then I've never had bad service like the OP did either. In my experience, a restaurant is only as good as their service. I find places with great food and poor service less desireable than places with average food and great service. If I had the service like the OP had on my first trip (or got stuck in that back room), there is a possibility that I wouldn't have gone back again either.

My attention was on the baby when the food runner dropped off food and grabbed it from behind me. I don't want a sandwhich that has had another dirty plate already placed on it. Besides, I didn't even notice that he took it until after he was gone. My DH said he just didn't think about it at the time because there were lots of dirty plates (pre-bussing must not be part of their training) next to me, out of our LITTLE children's reach.

My DH and I are both "restruanant people". Meaning I started greeting at 15, waiting tables at 18, managing by 22, and was a restruanant consultant FOH--front of the house specialist from at 26 until I decided to be a stay-at-home mom, who occassionally still freelances. My DH started as a busser at 15, waited tables, bartended, hourly managed, and worked for Sysco Food Services for four years. We understand all too well how restaruants work. I still time how long it takes us from the second we are seated till we are greeted out of habit. It's not so much about not getting a dessert we wanted--by that time we were so unhappy with service, we weren't upping the ppp (price per person) and the general overall check price. I just get annoyed from experience when we aren't offered. It's bad not to train a server to upsell anyhow, and since our server was training...

Also, do to our experiences, we would NEVER get up and help ourselves to a drink. That is wrong for so many reasons I can't even begin. I guess in my training and knowledge I also know how to be a good patron. The only things we were "waiting" for was what we ordered. You should never walk into a kitchen at a restaruant. And whenever service is exteremly bad, I do speak to a manager about it. Professional curtiousy. And as far as complaining on a message board, this is a review. Had everything been wonderful, I would be posting that instead.

After reading so many great reports on this board, we tried WCC for lunch in March. I didn't tell the kids what to expect and we all left kinda going 'huh?'

Food was okay, service was okay, but I was expecting a funfilled experience and we didn't get that. It wasn't worth the time it took to get there and we won't be going back.
