Whispering Canyon Cafe Reviews

We just ate at WCC on Friday 6/3 and it was loads of fun! Sorry to hear your experiences were not great! Now if we were rating the place on just the food it was what I expected, but the atmosphere was great! We were celebrating DS's 13th birthday during our trip and boy, did our server, Raging Bull, OMGosh I can't remember his real name after he told us that, and the gang did a good one on DS. After he'd ordered one Sprite, a second (in a bigger "glass"), and the third, which came with a custom made straw...6 feet long so the boy didn't have to get up to get a drink and Raging Bull made some funny remarks to the guests about watching out if you went swimming and saw our DS in the pool...for dessert he was given a small chocolate bundt cake with sprinkles and whipped cream on it. The CM told him not to touch it till they were all finished singing for him. Well, Raging Bull and the other sang "Happy Birthday" of some sort and on the last few words, they all scooped up his cake and ate it down in one bite each...dolloping a bit of whipped cream on his nose. DS was laughing so hard he turned red and was speechless. It was hilarious! DS is so hard to "get" when it comes to joking around...the last time like this was about 5 years ago. The CMs then gave him a duplicate cake just for him to enjoy...except one of them (not our server) kept coming by to ask if DS needed any help...even brought a wooden spoon the size of a small boat paddle. DS just kept laughing...and so did we.

It was a hoot to watch all of the kids hauling as many bottles of ketchup their arms could carry as they scurried across the room to pass it along...

Again, sorry to hear such a bad experience for ya'll, but since you are in the business, and if if you weren't I'm sure you know that eveyone has a bad day now and again. If the experience was really bad I hope you shared with the CMs the experience you did have so they know...especially given your professional opinions which might carry more weight in correcting the problems.

Wow! Whispering Canyon is one of our favorite restaurants. It is quite a hoot! They make the bandana hats and we just laugh the entire meal. The food is pretty good too. Our boys love to come here.

We were there the SAME night!!!!! Where were you sitting? What time were you there? We had a great waitress, she was funny. Our DS didn't like the place, but the rest of us did. The twins did the pony express a couple times. I do have to say that DS asked the waitress 3 times to bring him a refill and he never got one. The food was ok, nothing outstanding, but the atmosphere was great! Our PS's were for 7:15, if you were there then, my DS was the ketsup thief!

We ate at Whispering Canyon on Friday 6/3/05. My partner and I got there pretty darn early (like a little after 7am) and the restaurant was not very busy, maybe 6 - 8 tables. We were seated immediately. The wait staff was having a hoot ranting back and forth between each other. There was not much activity going on in the dining room since it was early. We ordered a skillet which was good. The bacon is EXCELLANT! I am a huge fan of grease (sausage) gravy and bisquits and it was super.

I did "have" to ask for ketchup for my eggs and being the first person with ketchup, the wait staff delivered about 20 bottles. :rotfl2:

We also got into someone's "family" photo.

Even though it wasn't a really active morning since there were so few people there that morning we did have fun and would go back to check out dinner sometime.

They've always done a great job for us, especially last November when we had my wife's birthday there. Our server brought out a free dessert for her, then all the WCC servers crowded around, stole it back from her, and ate it right in front of her face. It was hilarious! :rotfl:

I even referred friends there and their DS got the bottomless milkshake. When he complained that his hands were cold from drinking so much, the waiter brought out a huge blanket and wrapped him up in it. :goodvibes :rotfl2:

Be sure you always ask for MT as your waitress. She's hilarious!

WAY COOL!

Cynthia - ask for BJ as your waiter. He was a trip! :sunny:

Bobby Joe is the only reason we continue to return to this resturant. He is by far the best waiter there. The food is just OK in my opinion. But the antics and service by Bobby Joe is what makes it a highlight to our trip. We will be returning next week and hope to surprise Bobby with a trip to WCC.

Bobby Joe is currently featured in my signature picture...

We had a 5:40pm PS/ADR, but were there for a good hour or so...maybe we just missed each other...but just in case we didn't...as you rounded the first corner past the hostess stand we were at the second table in the center. Here's a couple shots from the evening...

DS's 3rd sprite with the straw made just for a "no account lazy teenager"...

And the CMs snatching DS's birthday cake, while one of them puts a dollop of whipped cream on his nose. DS really loved this place.

As for Bobby Joe... :rotfl2: :rotfl2: That guy is a show all in his own right!! Between him and the CM shown wearing the hat (can't see her face) in the above photo, we were in stiches the whole night.

We saw you there!!!!!! We were seated at the next table over, behind your son. COOL! In your picture, the table with the two women is where we sat, that isn't us though. You had gotten dessert about the time we sat down. Our waitress was Candy, the one in the had in your picture! Did some of the waitstaff eat some of your DS's cake? They did at one table while we were there but I can't remember which one.

Not that I am a clean freak, but I hope these waiters are washing their hands, after licking their fingers! I would be disgusted, if I saw them, do this, and then to hand me my food! Even some caught in these pictures, above!

We have been there twice, and both times, not much happened. The ketchup was already on the table, so couldn't ask for it. We were so looking forward since we read so many things happen, that are funny, but to no avail. We will most likely go back though, to give it more chances.

We have never eaten here and I have a question for you guys. If we already have AR's for dinner and want to request a specific server such as BJ or MT as has been suggested....should I call back and ask them to add that to my AR? Or just request when we get there to be seated? We are going to be having dinner there for my DH's 40th birthday and our entire trip is revolving around my DS 5th birthday so I want to be sure and get a server that is going to be lots of fun and pull a lot of "tricks" out of the hat! My DH is an avid iced tea drinker and I am dying to have them bring out that HUGE cup that they show in the Disney Dining food pictures thread on page 32 http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=773269&page=32&pp=15
This would absolutely make my DH's day! Should I try to quietly request that of the server or take my chances that they will bring him one after he has asked for his tenth refill!!!

YES!!! The four CMs scarfed down his birthday cake in one bite (each!!) It was so funny!! The male CM (wasn't our server) just to the right of DS in the photo was a hoot...after they ate the first cake and given DS a second, that CM came back and said, "Hey, Nic, ya need any help with that cake?" then walked away and came back AGAIN with a wooden spoon like those hanging on the wall for decoration...must have been 3 feet long and a foot wide. He got right over DS's shoulder and said, "Hey, Nic! You sure you don't need any help? I've go my own spoon..." DS just about spit out the bite of cake he had in his mouth.

We will be going back there again! It is so hard to "get" DS when pulling a prank of any kind so this was priceless for us. The last time I'd seen him have that "got me" look was about 3 years ago when his uncle hid his gift (money) under a box flap that contained 5 pounds of potatoes.

Golfgal, thanks for identifing the CM in the hat, Candy. She is great! While we were there, she grabbed someone's cell phone, held it up in the air, yelled out, "This here is Bob on the phone so on the count of 3 ya'll say 'Hi, Bob'". She also snapped a photo of Bobby Joe on someone else's camera.

As for the drink refills....when I asked for a second glass of iced tea I just got the same ol' pint size glass. I think our CM may have been gunnin' for DS since it said on our PS card that we were celebrating his 13th birthday.

DD ended up getting the wooden fork and knife because she didn't have any silverware. Candy told her to just eat with her fingers, so she did. She loved it and I was thinking "great, we've spent 10 years teaching them how to eat politley in public and it all just went down the drain" :rotfl: .

I have to add my dining review to the WCC. We went 5/31 with a AR of 6:10pm. Only Dh and myself knew of the antics that might occur. We were so excited to surprise the kids. We had dd17, ds8, and dd4 with us. We did not have any of the fun antics that we were anticipating. The people in the tables next to us got the bandanas, fun straws and large drinks. We kept asking for refills, different color crayons, and our server just slowly refilled our drinks, got us the different color crayon, and basically put up with us. We were envious of the other tables that were having so much fun, I guess it depends on your server. The kids just thought it was any other restaurant. We left quite disappointed, and wished we would have used our dining time somewhere else. The food was average, but we weren't going for the food. Now that I have complained, I must say every other place we went was fabulous!!! Boma, Ohana, Hoop Dee Doo, 1900 Park, Chef Mickey's, so I don't think one lousy supper is too bad. :wave2:

I have to say we had a similar experience. We were there for lunch last year on Halloween. We were so excited for all the antics and my kids wore their Halloween costumes and everything. They had a costume contest - for the employees :confused3

We got no "fun" either and left very disappointed. We tried to "egg" on our server by asking for "the largest drink possible" and ketchup and things like that. We also felt we barely got any attention and the food wasn't that good either.

We are going to try it one more time this Aug. though as we are staying at WL and we'll be eating free on the dining plan. We're trying it for supper this time and we plan to ask for a "fun" server. Hopefully that will help. We are a "fun" family and would love the teasing!

I don't know, but it seems after reading the post that perhaps going in with too much expectation leads to disapointment. Sounds like the waitstaff likes to have a great time, but maybe they dislike the feeling of a circus pony! I could be totally wrong, but after reading this thread, a lot of the people who tried to get their server engaged in some banter were the most disapointed.

I still think the menu sounds pretty yummy, and regardless of service, I can't wait to try it!!

we were also disappointed. The only funny things going on were not that great - asking for crayons or ketchup. She threw 2 straws and that was it. It did get old and boring honestly. I saw no really funny things going on. Our waitress was SLOW and by the end we asked for our desserts to go. they messed up the bill really bad, took over 30 minutes to fix it. And the food was ok but nothing to write home about at all.

Too bad!! Of all the places we ate at........WCC was our MOST FAVORITE!!! We all LOVED it so much..........when we got there, my DH was wondering who told me to eat here......I blamed it on all of you :) and told him it has great reviews. He said he thought it was "hokey". Well, about 15 min. later, as I looked over and saw him having a great time I asked him about it and he said, "OK, you were right".

I would definately go there again..........

We are going there for a Saturday lunch? Do you think it will be worth it? I would love for the waitstaff to give us a hard time, but I just want some good service. Is it better to go for dinner or for lunch? :confused3 Does it matter? :bounce:

When I had posted my trip report and commented on our disappointment at WCC, someone pointed out that lunch is quite often quieter than dinner...?

Our PS was for 12 noon - first sitting.

It's quite possible that the servers get tired of being 'on', but my kids had no expectations of this restaurant and we didn't push for antics at all. All we experienced was napkins being thrown in the middle of the table and quite honestly, my kids (not understanding the premise of the place) thought she was being rude!

Food was 'okay' - we would never take valuable time away from the parks again to go...
