We are trying to cut out some TS meals. We have 8 reserved and 6 on our dining plan. On our Epcot day we have 2 TS reservations: Coral Reef at 1:15 for lunch and Akershus at 7:55 for dinner. There are 10 of us-7 adults and my 3 kids, boys 11 and 7 and daughter 9. At Coral Reef I am concerned because my daughter and I don't like seafood but my youngest loves it; Akershus concerns me because some of the menu items are questionable and I'm not sure we will be done in time to see Illuminations. Any thoughts or opinions?!

How important is it for you to have the Princess meet at Akershus? That would be a deciding factor for me. I used to LOVE Akershus way back before it was a character meal, but have not been there since, and I have not eaten at Coral Reef since we always choose to eat in the World Showcase. So, based on food alone, I am not going to be any help.

That being said, you have a large group made up of mainly adults...so is Akershus something special just for your 9 year old DD? Or would she be ok if you missed it?
Coral Reef has some non-seafood options on both the adult and kids menu (pork, chicken, beef), so would everyone appreciate the atmosphere there a little more?

I would do a poll of the group and ask if I were you. Character meal or Aquarium setting - that can be your question to them.

Good luck making your decision!!!
(and more importantly, have FUN on your trip!! :dogdance::dogdance:)

Well, if it were us, we would get rid of both and go to Biergarten. :) (DH and DD (9) are huge Biergarten fans, so it is always the number one priority for us at EPCOT. Actually it is DH's number one WDW restaurant priority. ).

If Princesses are a priority then Akershus is worth it. If they are not, then in our opinion, it is one to be skipped. The tables are very close together and if you are seated near the buffet area, you might find yourself constantly being bumped into (that happened to me last time we ate there - and it was so bad that DH was rolling with laughter- even the wait staff was knocking into me and excusing themselves-I bet I got bumped into over 10 times). They often will rush you (one time they sat us at the table and handed me a menu and the waiter was there as they handed it to me and asked for my order- when I requested a minute to look at the menu he said "okay" and then proceeded to stand there next to me while I looked instead of walking away and coming back). The food is just okay. The food used to be pretty good- but that was several years ago and my whole family thinks it is not as good as it used to be. The food is decent enough that I am fine with it to see Princesses for DD, but not good enough that I would ever book there without the Princess presence. If you wish to see Belle in her gold dress and get a family picture with her, that is the only place to do it.

We prefer eating in World Showcase and I'm not a seafood fan, so we have not done Coral Reef. It just doesn't really have the appeal to our family. Someone else can probably give you better insight on it. I know the menu does have non-seafood items and looks decent though. Another WS one that is fun if you like hibachi is Teppan Edo- we tried that one for the first time on our last trip and it was a big hit. DD (9) is requesting to go back there.

We are going on our first ever trip so we really don't know what our preferences are. Personally, I would love to see Belle! She's my favorite princess! We are doing 1900 Park Fare dinner a few nights before. I've heard mixed reviews for both restaurants.

My DD is a huge Cinderella fan, so we do 1900 Park Fare every trip. It is usually crazy busy, loud and hectic- BUT in our opinion the food is good and the Stepmother and Stepsisters are absolutely hilarious. We enjoy it there.

Ditch the two and go with one. Two TS Lunch and Dinner is a lot of food in a six hour period. Hot dog and fries it for lunch. Coral reef, Akershus or Biergarten would be great entertainment for a child for dinner.
