Which use years get you free 2009 points?

The problem is that even if they let me bank the 2009 aug points they would expire 31 Jul 2011 and I would be travelling Aug 2011.

look at it this way: you would have a full set of banked 2010 pts, current 2011 pts and possibly borrowed 2012 pts available for travel in aug 2011 with an aug UY.

you would also have a bunch of 2009 pts that you could use to make a reservation for family or else rent out for $8-12 per pt.

i'm not seeing the problem...

I want to be able to use the 2009 points rather than rent them.

What is the cut off date for banking for a Dec use year? Is it 31 July or 31 Aug?

thanks everyone for replies.:)

July 31st.

I'd say Dec will work for you better than the Sept or Oct UY's and the longer you wait to purchase the less you'll have to pay on the 2010 maintenance fees. In the long run though a June or Aug UY would be much more flexible if you always travel in Aug. It may or may not matter in the end but if you ever had a problem in just one year you'd lose everything you gained by not getting the Aug UY.

Just the one time in 2011 could you travel late July/early Aug? That way you could use the 2009 points for the July portion and you'd have the 2010/2011 and even 2012 points if you wanted for the August part. Or - you'll still have the 2012 points left anyway. Just another option that also considers the next 50 years of Aug travel.

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply. Would the pro rata dues for 2010 be payable on closing?

Also are there closing fees if buying direct from Disney?

Donna x

We're buying a 50 point add-on at VGC direct from Disney and are not paying closing costs. Aug use year, so they are automatically banking the 2009 points for us. $102/point for those scoring at home. :)

Good luck!

The banking deadline for Dec UY is July 31st. I understand that you want 2009 points for that August 2011 trip and with a Dec UY, you will achieve that.

However, try to also consider the long term as well. For example, with travel in August and a Dec UY, you would only have Sept, Oct, or Nov to use up the banked and borrowed points used for any August vacation if you had to cancel or change that trip.

If the worst case scenerio happened, would you be able to travel during those months? If the answer is yes, then Dec UY would not be a problem. However, if you couldn't re-book for those months, you would loose a lot of points.

For example, I have a June UY because we travel in the summer. I originally started out with Oct UY but realized if I ever cancelled an August trip (when we travel), I would only have Sept to use up points. Since I teach, that would be impossible.

In your situation, if you went with a June or Aug UY, you would not have 2009 points, but you would still have 3 years worth of points to use for the trip. And, if that trip had to get cancelled or changed, you wuld have almost an entire year to re-book.

Just something to think about! Good luck!

I called DVC direct on Tuesday and they said I could get double points for any of the ones at the end of the year (Aug, Sept, Oct & Dec) for BCV and they would pay the closing costs.

Like pp are saying it depends on your situation. I knew NOTHING about UY and we have always traveled in Feb. this Feb we bought dvc (guide knew we always travel in Feb) but somehow got an Aug UY????? I am fine with it because I went with on my 1st dvc trip with girlfriends in May, have a trip planned in Dec with DH, and family trip in Feb. I have also realized that with 2 going to college next year and finding out that our school district decided to get rid of Feb break it is now a non-issue. I cannot see ever letting the points go to waste, and my DD's have assured me they would be happy to use any we do not!

Did they offer to pay closing costs for a new member deal or is this an add on?

Not 100% positive, but Disney has not charged new members closing costs when buying the older, "sold" out resorts, like BCV, BWV, VWL, etc.

Since BLT, AKV, SSR, and VGC are still in "active" sales, closing costs are not waived.

Sandi is correct - DVC does not charge closing on the "sold out" resorts, only on the ones that are actively selling.

We just bought our VGC while we stayed at BLT and got us 270 points direct from DVC.
We got August UY and they offered us 270 points from 2009. The sales rep. banked the points for us right of way since we would not be vacation by July 31, 2010. The member services rep said that we have until July 31, 2010 to use the banked points.
We paid 10% downpayment but financed the remaining cost and the closing cost through DVC. We chose direct payment option through our checking account and the financing fee was i think 10.75% or 10.95%, if we didn't signed up for the auto draft payment the fiancing fee would have gone up by 1%. They also allowed us to do the montly auto payment onMaintantence dues and it came out to $88 or so. We did 10 year option but they said there is not early pay off panalty if we decided to pay it off right away. Our monthly payments come out to about little over $300 or so for the 270 point purchase and $88 or so for the maintaintence due.
We didn't know that you can request the UY, our sales rep just told us that UY was going to be August. We are pretty happy with August UY but if are planning using the bank points for Sept or October, you might have to ask for later UY, don't know if that is possible since we didn't experience it first hand.
I hope this information helped you a little.

BTW, we did have to pay the closing cost and it came out to about $325 or so which they rolled it into the financing. They did have an incentive either you get 7 day cruise for four people or $17 per points discount if you buy more than 240 points or something like that. We bought 270 points. The base price per point for VGC was $112 and with the discount we paid $95 per points. For BLT it was a bit more but the maintainence fee was little less, not enough to make that big of a difference.
I think it would be better if you get Sept. or October UY if you want to use your banked 2009, but make sure you don't cancel your other upcoming August vacations because like others say, you won't have much time to reschedule your canceled vacations and it seems like getting a reservation at the last mintutes sounds pretty impossible based on other people's reviews.

Guessing MS said ( or meant to say ) July 31 2011 or maybe it's just a typo ?; it just concerned me when I saw 2010 expiration for banked 2009 points because mistakes by MS have been known to happen.

CONGRATS to you on your DVC membership!! :welcome: HOME :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

you're right it wasa typo. LOL
We have until July 31, 2011 to use the banked Aug 2009 points.
We've been dreaming about another Disney Vacation since we came back two weeks ago. We got Feb. 2011 Disneyland visit planned and thinking about how we are going to use the remaining points. Too many choices to choose from. So far we haven't had any trouble getting help from the member services. We thought about using them for our friends' honeymoon. The member services provided very informative information on RCI exchange and some great location our friends can stay in Cancun. So far no regrets getting the DVC and we are looking forward to many more vacations to come. :cool1::yay::banana:

Hi All. Long Time Lurker, first time poster. I have a chance to purchase either a September, October or December use year. My primary Disney travel times are Early December, Jan and Early Feb before school breaks. My secondary travel times would be October (for Halloween season), November, September. I don't plan on cruising much. I will do RCI every now and then but that would be more of a random time period.

What would be the best Use Year for me and why out of September, October or December?

Thanks in advance. I enjoy reading everyone's advice and suggestions.

September will probably be your best UY if you normally plan on traveling in September through February. With a September UY, you'll be able to bank your points as late as April 30th each year. Thus, if you book a trip for September 2011 but had to cancel it, you would have plenty of time to reschedule the trip or bank the points.
