Which side of ship do you prefer??

Port. Aft. What else do you need to know?

We get to watch all the hustle and bustle on the dock at Castaway Cay. Perhaps I read too many Popular Mechanics as a child? Fascinating.

We'll watch the fireworks from Deck 9/10.

I could care less as long as the side I am on sails away from port Canaveral. I always book cat 11 anyway so view means very little to me.

Perhaps whether or not you receive a letter, as well as the wording in the letter, depend on the weather/wind direction of the evening. Wind blowing away from the ship would be less of a concern for embers than when it is blowing towards the ship. This would explain why not everyone has received a letter, as well as why they are different.

Just getting back to my PP and the responses after, my cruises were in different years, and the last one was Summer 2007, We were not told to stay inside for fireworks but were advised to bring in clothes etc, and do not leave the door open.

I you think Deck 8 aft is actually safer than deck 10, where many people view the fireworks, there is the roof above the verandah, ( the floor of the outstretched Deck 9, ) so the wind would have to blow hard to get any ash in.

Its possible due to weather conditiona and the location of the room different letters are sent out.

We like both. But on our most recent cruise, Dec '07, (Eastern) it was very hot and sunny. We had port side stateroom and we were able to enjoy our verandah during the 2 sea days. On the return trip it was much too hot in the sun for the 1 sea day. (In fact that day it was too hot at the pool, :faint: a first for us)
We like Starboard so we can look at Castaway Cay. We go to deck 4, 9 or 10 for pictures.
But given a choice we reserved the same room for January so that we will be able to enjoy the verandah for two sea days.

We prefer the port side as well for all of the reasons stated. It's fun to people watch at CC. Never thought of the sun at the drill. Good point.

Most people prefer starboard. We perfer port. With port you are in the shade for the safety drill. And the twenty minutes you stand in the hot Florida sun wearing a life jacket - no view is worth that.

My first DCL cruise was 'Port' my next few were all Starboard aft, by request, like the location, easy access for Topsiders, view of CC on the USA trips, has served me well.

But I requesed 'Port' for the E/bound Repo, so back on that side this year.

Cruisers in verandah cabins on the starboard side are sent a letter on the afternoon of Pirate Night asking them to remove items from their balcony and stay inside during the fireworks to avoid falling embers. You might be able to see a bit though the windows though.

As others have said- HUNH???? REALLY??? OMG! :confused3

Well, I like Starboard because I have young children and we watch the fireworks from our verandah! Last cruise was 2006 and no letter then, but they had just started doing the fireworks not that long before we cruised.

We booked Starboard again.

BUT, we went straight into CC on our cruise so we faced away from the beach.
