Which restaurant screams, "Welcome to Disney!"

For us, it used to be Chef Mickey's. I would recommend 1900 Park Fare over that these days though!

Chef Mickey's for sure. Not great food, just ok, but it has the fab five and the contemporary is really cool!

Chef Mickey's. It is priceless to see the eyes of the children as the characters visit their tables.

We always like to start our trip off with The Hoop Dee Do Review!!! It sure starts our first night with a bang!!!! pixiedust:

I'd also say Chef Mickey's sounds like a good choice here. Don't forget to take your autograph book if you plan to have one. It's expensive for what it is, but we are glad we went.

I was going to suggest Whispering Canyon Cafe, we like their family style dinner. It's not as "Disney" as Chef Mickey's. If your kids love character dining, then Chef Mickey's would be good for them.

We like to kick off our Disney trips at Chef Mickey. WIth kids, this restaurant is DISNEY on steroids

Tusker House, character breakfast/lunch.

Great character interaction.

#2) Crystal Palace

For us, it is Garden Grill.. which is why we always do dinner there on our arrival day. But since you are not going to a park that day, I would suggest one of the resort restaurants - Ohana or Cape May Café are both great dinners. For characters, 1900 Park Fare, and I would say Chef Mickey's but we really don't like dinner there. We only enjoyed breakfast there, but it isn't one we really go to anymore at all.

QS: Peco's Bills. In all my trips it has been the first stop on arrival day for lunch (and then POTC for the first ride right after)
TS: Tony's has always been our 1st TS on arrival day. I'm starting to notice how hit or miss it can be. For example, I went in Aug 2014 and it was amazing and then I went again in November 2014 and it was horrendous. As a party of 7 we were seated, fed (all meal courses), and given the check in under 30 minutes. We felt so rushed and almost herded as if they waitstaff wanted us out as soon as we got in. Some may say this is ideal, but for us it is a TS not a QS and I would have loved to finish my dinner before dessert was on the table. Nor were drinks refilled.. It wasn't a magical first evening at all :sad2: I have a ressie this upcoming trip to give it another shot (I've eaten here at least half a dozen times) and this may determine if it will be crossed off the list for good..

It is our family tradition to start off our Disney trips with a meal at Chef Mickey's. It just really sets the mood for Disney magic with the fab 5, music, and atmosphere. Plus it is also fun to ride around on the monorail :woohoo:

Ha agreeing with everyone here. One of my earliest memories was when I was 8yo at Chef Mickey's the first time I went to WDW.

When my kids were younger it was hands down Chef Mickey's. The characters, being inside the Contemporary with the monorail up above. Good times!
